OT - Sunday Night TV is back (GoT Doc, TWD, Better Call Saul)
Sunday night TV is back as of tonight.
At 7:30, HBO is airing it's 30-minute "Day in life of making GoT"
At 9pm we get the (mid)-season premier of The Walking Dead.
At 10pm we get the series premier of Better Call Saul.
And in 8 weeks, right after TWD wraps up, we get the start of the final episodes of Mad Men as well as the start of Game of Thrones season 5.
My sunday nights just got a lot better.
Anyone expecting much from Better Call Saul? I'm cautiously optimistic.

but I think it may take a few episodes to get going. We'll see.

'Better Call Saul' looks like one of those shows that start slow, but pick up steam mid-season and beyond. I don't expect much early, but I'm going to stick with it regardless...

Very interested to see Better Call Saul. Not expecting much, but hopefully I am pleasantly surprised.

My favorite Mr. Show skit was about the boy who tried to commit suicide after listening to the lyrics of his favorite band, and the band visits him in the hospital.
I can't embed, but here's the link to that clip:

Don't stick your dick in that hole!
My favorite skit from there is when they make the globochem ceo have a heart attack. Good stuff.
One of my favorite lines is, "My great great great grandfather started this company with one single rickety leaky hand-crafted slave ship, and a simple motto: "People Selling People to People"."

And the Grammy Awards.

LOL the grammy awards. Sort of like the special olympics for musicians.

Okay... are we just going to forget that before Kanye went fishsticks crazy, he actually made about 3 classic hip hop albums in a row?
February 8th, 2015 at 7:45 PM ^
I'd argue that Kanye has always been crazy, but using him as an example of a bad musician seems misguided at best.
We are talking about an award that has gone out to Who Let the Dogs Out, Gettin' Jiggy wit It and was allowed to end up in the hands of Creed.

Doc Brown seems to be in the "can't be musician unless one plays an instrument! old and out of touch" crowd.
February 9th, 2015 at 3:43 AM ^
I'd argue that you can't be a musician if you can't either SING or play an instrument, but that would probably eliminate a good deal of today's "artists" who rely on auto-tune to hit the right notes. I say a great chunk of them simply fall under the generic header of "entertainers" these days. Having tons of musical talent is no longer really required in a lot of cases.

I've got my dvr set to record all 3 of them. Definitely looking forward to the Walking Dead, and curious to see Better Call Saul. I think Odenkirk is hilarious. Also, Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad) apparently has been a big part of the creation of Better Call Saul, so I'd expect it to eventually be pretty good, if people give it time.
Also looking forward to watch that GOT doc too. So nice to have good tv back on Sunday nights!

I also like Downton Abbey... yeah I know.

As someone in the entertainment industry, Better Call Saul is getting some rave reviews around here; it practically picks up where BB left off. Some are even saying the first few episodes are better than BB's start (which is saying something). Keep in mind that the producers, key directors and writers from BB are involved with this show and they've had nearly a decade to conceive of this world and refine the look/feel and story. All the kinks ironed out, so to speak.
I don't think it will touch BB's overall ending and arc, but don't be surprised if it's successful in its own right and ends up well acclaimed, just as Frasier was (just a supporting guy) to Cheers.

Since BCS takes place before, during and after BB's timeline, it would ludicrous not to include them in at least in a minor role. I can't wait to see how it all goes down. It will be interesting too to see Saul post BB. How does Nebraska treat him. Does he get involved with Jesse again? It will be very intriguing.

I meant it metaphorically, that it starts out like a well-oiled machine akin to the quality of the end of BB (because they're basically using the same team and starting not completely from scratch). It took the BB crew 3+ years or so to really get going, and the quality of the latter seasons of BB is far superior to the first ones.

5 is not only the best, but may be the best season of any show of all time. Rivaled perhaps only by the eight episode run of True Detective and Game of Thrones-Season 4. Ozymandius alone places it on equal footing with Season 4, Granite State and Felina put it in a completely different ballpark.

I'm reasonably confident that GRRM can get the sixth book out before the show catches up to it. The seventh, not so much.

I still haven't finished watching Season 4 of the Walking Dead. The show just bogged down and became really boring. ( I know most people won't agree with that opinion ). I am SUPER excited about Better Call Saul. I loved Breaking Bad and Saul ended up being my favorite character by the end of it. I've never watched GoT so I have no idea what is going on there.
