Which piece of "Michigan Tradition" would you like to see return? (other than winning)
Which part of Michigan's tradition would you like to see return (other than the wins)? There has been some chatter on the board about helmet decals, or getting rid of the Legends numbers, etc. I personally, would like to see the Victors walk make a return in some form. I think it was good for both the players and the fans. Thoughts?

good times. But people had to go and ruin it by freezing the marshmallows! Not cool...
January 6th, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
were the people who would melt them with a lighter and they would stick in people's hair.
January 6th, 2015 at 10:41 AM ^
Ouch. All we ever did was stick pennies in the marshmallows.
January 6th, 2015 at 10:46 AM ^
That's an unpleasant surprise! Glad I never got hit with one of those!
January 6th, 2015 at 10:55 AM ^
They didn't hurt... just gave them a little weight to make it more likely they'd make it to the field from further back.
I assume that's what the freezing reference was too, but not familiar with that one.

Pennies didn't work well. The better approach was to partially tear two marshmallows in the middle and stick the two exposed inner section of marshmallows together. They stuck together extremely well and provided enough mass to make a decent throwing object.
January 6th, 2015 at 10:56 AM ^
What I recall killing the marshmallow throwing was the new turf. The prior grass field dealt better with marshmallows getting ground into it than the new field turf does.
But it was a lot of fun filling the visiting band's tuba with marshmallows as they walked by. It was really irritating once the visiting bands realized that if they held their tubas facing down the marshmallow problem was solved. And bouncing a double or triple marshmallow off of the bass drum was fun as well.

Marshmallow throwing for us was mostly about trying to hit the camera guys. Nothing malicious, though. The pennies just added a little mass so they'd travel farther.
Pizza was short-lived once they realized that they were just invitations for students to turn the boxes into frisbees and throw them onto the field.

At times there were dozens of those things zig zagging through the student section. They could maim a guy.

Fleeting my ass.
- Bo did them before OSU did.
- Helmet stickers were around from 1969-1982 and 1985-1994.
Yeah. 24 seasons. Really fleeting there....

Normally 24/70 (ish) years is pretty fleeting.

You need help. This attitude is what has held Michigan back, and needs to change. We don't have to do everything just as Bo did it. You act as if he's some minor deity. Helmet stickers aren't going to help us win games. Helmet stickers won't make the players hit harder, or form tackle properly. Coaching does that. Not fucking stickers.
Jesus.

The question was what tradition do you want to see back.
I said nothing about them helping them win or any of that shit you mentioned.
There is a possibility they come back. Harbaugh was the QB when they were around. Greg Dooley at MVictors has been talking about it for awhile now. Maybe you should go read his site.
I'm not the only one who would like to see them back.

I had expected to come back here and try to shoot down whatever your reply may have been. Your reply is fair enough, I'll drop it.
January 6th, 2015 at 1:21 PM ^
Just because Bo created them doesn't mean they were any less ugly.
January 6th, 2015 at 3:39 PM ^
It's just fine to dislike something he did or disagree with something he believed in, and doesn't mean you value him any less.

I completely agree with this. If they do decide to bring them back, I hope they are least MUCH smaller.
January 6th, 2015 at 1:40 PM ^
that helmet stickers will be brought back...
Michigan needs to develop a competitive edge, and helmet stickers can be part of that. Not that I think lack of helmet stickers is the cause of Michigan's malaise, just that it could help to eliminate a culture of complacency. When U-M's top WR is openly saying things like "winning and losing is just a statistic" there's got to be something wrong with the competitive attitude of the team.
