What if Brandon did actually hire a Harbaugh?

I would love to read it.

by both of them. Supposedly there are 35 names on that mythical petition, if it is legitimate they can lay it to rest by publishing those names. There's a reason why learned and enlightened people believe that one should have the right to face their accuser. I should think the people of University of Michigan would be so enlightened.

The OP presented a hypothetical to the board. You are fighting the hypothetical. Don't fight the hypothetical.
October 20th, 2014 at 9:35 PM ^
Why not? If there's zero to no chance of it happening, why waste time on it?
October 21st, 2014 at 7:41 AM ^
Animals have been known to chew their legs off to escape a trap. Why wouldn't Brandon do the same to protect his job?
I agree that the chances are slim, but I wouldn't put them at zero.

Is there a sister looking for a coaching gig?

Jim especially is not leaving for this crap. He has to deal with a lack of control as it is. That's all it really amounts to with these guys. If DB is here all he will want to do is have his grubby hands all over anything. Regardless, DB has pissed off too many people as is. We all know he is a dead man walking.

The OP presented the hypothetical "What if Brandon hired a Harbaugh." Your response: "I don't see it happening." Do you see why your response is outside the scope of this thread?

ESPN told me last week Jimmy Harbaugh loves chaos. Feels comfortable in it. This would really, like really be home to him.
October 20th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
in the video room with Harbaugh reviewing game video and Brandon walks in to part of it? All hell would break loose.

Someone talking some sense here.
EDIT: I went to upvote, but accidentally upvoted my own.
I deserve a downvote, but will take as many lashes as the board deems fit.

Gave you another upvote for honesty. It put you at a very cool 1111 total.

Who is the home team? Neptune and the points are pretty attractive considering Mars' starting QB broke three of his feet last week and is, at best, a game time decision.

Then someone would have invented the Infinite Improbability Drive.

If DB wants to get punched in the face for douchey interferance, then hiring Jim will accomplish that.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:08 PM ^
I don't think any of the big 3 would listen to Brandon....but if he managed to get a Harbaugh/Miles in Ann Arbor I think he would be given a few more years. That's assuming that he contiues to try and win back the good will of the students.
October 20th, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
Agree and more: If Brandon hired a Harbaugh, I would expect Brandon to be around as long as he wants.

It's not just about a bad job hiring a coach. It's about a long list of things, not all about the product on the field.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
I have heard rumblings from folks in San Diego (where JH played and coached) that it just simply isn't going to happen with Brandon there. JH still has very good friends in the area and they are saying the same things people in Ann Arbor are.
There is too much smoke from too many sources for this to not be true. JH will not come to AA with DB as the AD, and frankly, I don't blame him.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:10 PM ^
Of course it'd save his job. But the indications are that he could never do this.

This is not gonna happen. There is no room big enough for a top Tier coach and Brandon. At this point, this is not even in the discussion. Brandon has turned the Michigan history, tradition and Lore into a "brand", something to be sold, marketed.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PLvdmifDSk
October 20th, 2014 at 3:30 PM ^
Wait ... That's not quite as unusual as I might once have thought.

Fire Brandon
October 20th, 2014 at 3:15 PM ^
Both Harbaughs are too intelligent and independent to work for David Brandon. Most importantly, both have other options. No elite coach with options is going to work for David Brandon. Even when Brandon is fired as he deserves, the job is still going to be a tough sell.
If neither Harbaugh wants the job, it is going to take a lot of guaranteed money to get an elite outsider to risk getting a Rich Rod job pulled on him. Coaches are a fraternity and they know which schools treat coaches well. David Brandon has devalued the Michigan job. Hopefully, another AD can pull off a miracle and get a great coach to come in and turn Michigan back into Michigan.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
Or are you just a staffer for Dave doing a little market research?
October 20th, 2014 at 3:17 PM ^
No, it wouldn't save his job. It might prolong it, but just hiring a big name coach doesn't undo all of the other crap he has pulled. Remember that regents meeting last week? I didn't hear students complaining about losing football games. It goes deeper than that.
Besides, if Brandon hired Harbaugh, he would use it as an opportunity to raise ticket prices through the roof, slap advertising all over Michigan Stadium, and stop selling student tickets altogether.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:20 PM ^
The football hire is at the center of all this. It's much easier to justify super-high ticket prices if you have an elite coach. OSU's ticket prices are even higher than ours, IIRC.
October 20th, 2014 at 4:57 PM ^
You didn't hear students complaining about lack of football success because that would make the studends look classless. But you can't ignore the correlation between increasing calls for Brandon's head and the worst football season under Hoke (Brandon's hire). That is why I think hiring a Harbaugh would save his job. But my opinion is that no AD, whether Brandon or another, will hire a Harbaugh. So I don't think Brandon will save his job.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:19 PM ^
Listen Dave you can't just keep creating these fake mgoblog accounts and floating hypotheticals at us hoping that we will give you the secert formula to keep your job.
You are a big boy figure it out yourself.
Or you could stop wasting your time on here and finish your resignation letter.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:21 PM ^
I'm always up for a good hypothetical, but ... cumong, man.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:22 PM ^
There's no way it would happen, but even if it did, I'd still say he doesn't deserve to keep his job. More so, if he's the one conducting the next coaching search, then buckle up for the Teryl Austin era of Michigan Football and God help us all.
October 20th, 2014 at 3:25 PM ^
impossible? If so, this may be one of them. Actually, the scenario goes that Brandon simultaneously lands a Harbaugh TO keep his job. It's not "Well, he DID hire a Harbaugh, let's let evaluate whether we should let him stay ... ok, thought about it. Good hire. You're safe."
If it truly is Brandon that's a major factor in Jim or Les not wanting to come here then that is tantalizing to say the least. But it seems like Jim and Les being Brandon-haterz is overhyped or a red herring. How do they even know each other that well? I'm seriously wondering ... I don't necessarily doubt it (well, I guess I did just question it), but I've just never seen any detailed background on their relationships.

the percentage of posters here who would seemingly believe Schissel takes his direction from reading the MgoBlog.
Schlissel's first statement was (my take) more or less about how academics should be the focus and athletics, while important should be a clear second priority.
And by sleight of hand or mind or transmogrification of the galaxy, he's going to be motivated to put a figurative wooden stake in Brandon's heart.
....so he can choose his own Ath Dir, one who would clearly place athletics second. Schlissel would also place himself in the chain of events that led to the selection of a new head football coach...I will guess here, that's not a place he would ever want to be, because it would be a talking point forever more and his credibility with the common person would be inextricably linked to that, rather than anything he might offer to advance or refine academics.
I just don't see it. I clearly get how Brandon has alienated various groups, but by DB simply responding to the various terms of the backlash....there's no further argument nor problems for his boss. It would simply then be about some cross-section of complainers. If one offers concessions (not those concessions) and the complainers keep going on it becomes a group of haters who really didn't want what they said in the first place.
I keep posting about this. I don't see this all happening the way its outlined in detail. Its my opinion of course, just based on what I see about organizational dynamics, in several different organizations.
