OT - Kansas Fires Charlie Weis
http://www2.kusports.com/news/2014/sep/28/charlie-weis-out-kansas-university-football-coach/
Was 2-2 this year, with a couple years remaining on his contract. This sounds familiar.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:15 AM ^
Oh nice. Can he fix our offense?
September 28th, 2014 at 10:29 AM ^
I would actually take him as an OC.
He would need to keep his mouth shut though.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:54 AM ^
But then how would he eat a cheeseburger?
September 28th, 2014 at 12:55 PM ^
I think his schematic advantage is overrated.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:16 AM ^
"This sounds familiar."
Oh how I wish it were only because Weis loves getting fired so much.
Unfortunately that is not the case.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:16 AM ^
Let's see if DB has the foresight to do the right thing.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:47 AM ^
possibly along with UF. Might increase the pressure. . . that is, if the attitude isn't 'we are Michigan and everyone will want to come here.'

We're pretty much the hot girl in the movie with glasses on. Then when you take the glasses off, she's hot. We just need the right Ryan Reynolds to do it. We have the money, we have the talent, we have the resources. Just take off the damn glasses.
This has been a metaphor.
September 28th, 2014 at 3:03 PM ^
These glasses hurt my eyes. It's the wrong prescription. Plus they pinch my nosebridge and leave red marks.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:16 AM ^
If KU can fire a coach mid-season . . .
(and if anyone add Weis to the contenders list, I'll neg them forever).
September 28th, 2014 at 10:16 AM ^
#anyonebuthoke
September 28th, 2014 at 11:19 AM ^
The "Anyone but _______" attitude is how you end up with Hoke-caliber hires.

September 28th, 2014 at 10:17 AM ^
September 28th, 2014 at 10:26 AM ^
Anyone who says the situation can't get any worse in Ann Arbor just had a wake-up call.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:19 AM ^
If Dave Brandon remains AD, I just know Weis will be a candidate. I just have a sick gut feeling. At least we'll have a decided schematic advantage over other teams.
September 28th, 2014 at 11:05 AM ^
September 28th, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
DB: Challenge accepted!
September 28th, 2014 at 11:14 AM ^
I'm actually quite confident that a cocky blowhard like Weis would never be interviewed by Brandon.
The guy Brandon would look for is a more mousy kind of guy, who would be okay with Brandon sitting in on everything and constantly looking over his shoulder.

September 28th, 2014 at 10:41 AM ^
we will forever regret losing nuss if we dont fire hoke now and name him IC, this statement is exactly what brandon needs to say. He will leave here and become a great coach where he isnt forced to do things a certain way
September 28th, 2014 at 2:18 PM ^
Sheahon Zenger should be fired for hiring Weis.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:21 AM ^
September 28th, 2014 at 10:56 AM ^
I cant confirm this but someone said he has $7M coming to him from Kansas. So if you put that with his Notre Dame money - just hilarious/ridiculous.
September 28th, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
He single-handedly keeps many Kansas eateries in business, but I'd rather have ND and Kansas just funnel the cash straight to the restaurants.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:21 AM ^
How much is Weis now getting paid to not coach? The man really is a genius.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:26 AM ^
Dan Wetzel said he's still receiving some of an estimated 19 million from ND and will get 7 million from Kansas.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:31 AM ^
Holy shit, he has made a lucrative career out of being fired.
September 28th, 2014 at 11:35 AM ^
How can I sign up for this career trajectory? I'll immediately buy the "Charlie Weis' 7-Steps for Retirement Security" book when it's available on Amazon.
September 28th, 2014 at 1:32 PM ^
I've been working on this for 5 years. I've yet to figure out his secret, but I have a feeling it has something to do with threats involving "I'll eat you if..."
September 28th, 2014 at 10:27 AM ^
Kansas 2.5 million for each of his 2 years remaining on his contract plus whatever remains this year, lets say 1 million. So $6 million, which is exactly what they paid Turner Gill to take a hike, meaning Kansas has paid $12 million to get rid of their terrible coaches.
September 28th, 2014 at 11:16 AM ^
September 28th, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
Well they got balls. We don't. DB -- It is Kansas for crying out loud. They care about their FootBall, even though they are not good at it.
And we don't fire Hoke?
September 28th, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
This guy is a genius. He gets paid more to not coach teams anymore than most coaches get for working.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:40 AM ^
It's really a great system if you can pull it off, I think:
1) Build name as potential up-and-coming potential coach
2) Get hired by storied program
3) Secure lengthy contract extension with generous pay before tanking
4) Get fired, lay low in NFL for a year
5) Return to college as coordinator
6) Take first available Power 5 head coaching position
7) Secure contract and decent salary, fail again, get fired again
8) ???
9) Profit
September 28th, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
is done as a head coach. You don't fail at Kansas and get another job at a major program.
Kansas has now fired Turner Gill and Charlie Weiss after just 2 seasons each, that is a terrible way to run a program.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:25 AM ^
Hear you. At least, they are firing. We are keeping this incompetent guy and worry about million dollar.

Bruce Feldman @BruceFeldmanCFB
Charlie Weis disaster in a nutshell: him falling asleep in a team meeting when squad was being addressed by #KU's head athletic trainer.
September 28th, 2014 at 11:08 AM ^
at this point I wish Hoke would fall asleep. At least that would explain the ineptness and lack of leadership.
September 28th, 2014 at 11:17 AM ^
Maybe he has sleep apnea - common with husky guys.
September 28th, 2014 at 11:38 AM ^
Weis' next HC contract will include a mandatory CPAP clause. Charlie must wear a CPAP to all meetings and while on the sideline.
September 28th, 2014 at 11:47 AM ^
is Weis wearing a headset with a CPAP mask on. Kinda the Un-cool Darth Vadar look for sideline football coaches...
September 28th, 2014 at 10:28 AM ^
September 28th, 2014 at 10:28 AM ^
Weis is a guy that should have stayed under a great coach and get his coffee and playbook. Man, this guy somehow sold himself for so long and made money out of it.
A great QB can make you look like a genius. He should give half his money to Tom Brady and Bill.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:33 AM ^
He should give half his money to Tom Brady and Bill.
He absolutely should. And he would still have $10+ million left.
Head asplode.
September 28th, 2014 at 10:30 AM ^
Kudos to the Kansas AD for doing the right thing....to bad our AD wasn't remotely smart enough to get it right.
