Beth Mowins to do play by play Saturday.
With Joey Galloway on color, who I don't recall hearing before. A shame IMO, this confirms me wanting to listen to the radio feed.
[Ed-Ace: I changed the thread title, as Beth Mowins is in my opinion a solid announcer—especially for a noon game on ESPN2—and the immediate parallel drawn to Pam Ward, a far inferior play-by-play announcer, is potentially rooted in something I'm not comfortable seeing on this blog.
Joey Galloway as the color commentator should probably be your biggest concern here. Leaving the rest of the thread up unchanged since it at least contains some pertinent information.]

Let's be honest. Beth Mowins is abhorrent.
End of story.

You're not allowed to be honest. Being honest makes you a sexist neanderthal.

And it's just a big coincidence that female sports broadcasters are awful at their jobs. Come on, a lot of men just don't like women treading into the domain of sports. Life won't be getting any easier for them.

Ace's edit is his perogative, just as I thought comparing Ward to Mowins was mine. It is laughable that this is perceived as somehow uncomfortable or out of bounds on the blog.
August 27th, 2014 at 8:50 PM ^
What comparison was made? All I saw was a title that confused the two.
August 27th, 2014 at 8:54 PM ^
Ward and Mowons sound similar in vocal timbre, though Ward is worse as an announcer.
August 28th, 2014 at 9:24 AM ^
Beth Mowins is not the problem. It's Joey Galloway. He is terrible.
August 27th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
I'm [NOT] here for the gang bang.
August 27th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
I don't think Mowins is as bad as Ward, but yay for radio:
Brandstatter moves to pbp & Dierdorf takes over color.
August 27th, 2014 at 9:16 PM ^
Anyone know how an out-of-stater can catch the radio broadcast?
August 27th, 2014 at 9:35 PM ^
If you have a computer, laptop, or tablet find wtka.com (1210am). You should be able to find a button at the top right that says listen live. Hope this helps.
August 28th, 2014 at 12:37 AM ^
At the moment if you go to mgoblue.com/allaccess, it auto redirects to mgoblue.com/collegesportslive, and there's an annoying autoplay vid. Then you have to pick which link you want. Maybe not much of an issue if there's only one event on the day, but if there's more, then that's a little extra time.
I prefer to go to the football schedule page, where you can click the "listen" button in the game box, which will open up the audio (radio) feed.

I am still mighty skeptical of Brandy on PBP. That might not be a much better option. I believe that PBP is WAY harder than it looks and I fear the Brandy/Dierdorf tandem may come off as cartoonish.

that is Pam Ward.

I guess it wouldn't be CFB season if a discussion about female commentators wasn't met with transphobia.
August 27th, 2014 at 7:40 PM ^
And effing Joey Galloway?? Screw Ohio State.
August 27th, 2014 at 8:04 PM ^
What can we do to not have Ohio State alums announcing our games? Freaking Spielman, Jim Jackson, etc., etc... You know Galloway will find ways to twist that App State knife all day...
August 27th, 2014 at 9:20 PM ^
I actually like Jim Jackson doing color.
August 27th, 2014 at 10:02 PM ^

"listen to Ward say, "touchdown Michigan," in that painfully bland, monotone voice and it doesn't get any worse than that."
I long for those days WH. Lately all she or anybody else doing the M v MSU games gets to say is "Touchdown Michigan State".
August 28th, 2014 at 11:13 AM ^
Mowins is much better at her job and puts in more effort than Ward.
That being said, the sound of her voice still threatens to draw blood from my ears.

Unfortunately, knowing what the hell you're talking about doesn't seem to be a prerequisite for sports journalism-type substance.

He defended it by saying something like "On field results determine talent, not recruiting stars." Guarantee if someone asks him about OSU's offensive line he'd try to argue they are talented, even though we have no idea, going by his own metrics.
August 28th, 2014 at 9:51 AM ^
He certainly did. It was on College Football Live. Also, Mark Packer said on siriusxm radio last night, that OSU and MSU have "different kinds of athletes" than Michigan has. I took that as a nicer way of saying Michigan has a lot less talent than MSU/OSU. I get that the O-line was bad, but it's not like we are fielding scrubs. JUST WIN. Thats the only way to shut up these asshats.
