Giving Blueday is next week
I received an email reminder this morning about Giving Blueday being next week. I'm already a donor, but going to step up to Champion Circle with a monthly amount.
First-time U-M donors who give $50 or more will receive a match of $50. There are other incentives for matching and challenging others to give.
If anyone else is looking to signup and join, then feel free to use my link

Do they take Shell gas cards?
I'll give you a 2 for 1 deal on that ;)
Gas is at a premium ha
I have over 20K of something I can offer today.
I need the points :)

I agree. I had never been a donor before, but am a little older and a little more stable now. Plus I'm trying to get season tickets heh (and you need a certain level of points before you are eligible). But know that there are more incentives for students and alumni. Also, by default - as alumni you get a higher amount of donor points towards the option to buy season tickets.
I'm not in the "I've given you enough with tuition" line of argument with UM as much as the "you've continually proven yourself to be a pretty terrible institution with no self-awareness or impetus to change" camp. Especially after their tactics to crush the GEO strike last year.
I am inclined to give to specific programs that were valuable or important when I was in school, if I give at all, but the university as a whole (and the Athletic Department) will never get a cent of general donation money from me.
I have ramped up my donations significantly this year, coincident with the start of beer sales at Yost. Shut up and take my money!
you know, whether you want to give on the blue day thing, there is another very valuable thing we all could do:
Beveled Guilt
for the incredible efforts and quality of content we get from seth, brian, alex, et all, chipping in a little for the free content isn't asking much. maybe let your little mouse wander a little north and a little east and hit the 'Donate' button up there.
just saying.
Agree and will do so... maybe they'll do a matching points incentive lol
Also of note - I'm AWS certified and have worked in web hosting services for over 20 years (at 2 different D1 schools) and still do. I work from home now and I'd be glad to volunteer my time/services if they are interested.
Here I am on Mgoblog so obviously I love Michigan sports. Between basketball and football season tickets the Athletic Department gets plenty of my money.
I used to donate to the university as a whole but when I am in Ann Arbor I see a prosperous and often self-important community full of construction cranes. The university has a large endowment which by itself could support much of the financial needs of the school.
I more often drive through Detroit. What I see there is just the opposite, many people in need, a city economy just surviving.
So when I consider my charitable giving, I am more inclined to give to those in need rather than those that are not in need but are always demanding more.
I work for Virginia Tech, and have been here for 20+ years... I understand completely what you are talking about and I see it here too. I was here when Vick came through as the QB, and VT has experienced incredible growth since then and we all call it the "Vick effect". They have a lot of old Hokie money here, and they are always asking for more. However, I was also here when the April 16 shootings happened, and was supposed to be in a meeting at Norris Hall that morning. I'm appreciative of everything we have here and the opportunities and the old Hokie money. They ask for money for NIL mostly because of the recent success of our womens basketball team, because they're winning and want to keep winning.... our football has struggled haha.
Fire Warde, and I'll think about it
Wasn’t there a Giving Blueday after Thanksgiving? And then another around Christmas? How many of these are there?
I would suggest donating to your local U of M alumni group to support their scholorship efforts so your money goes directly to helping the students.
I will probably donate to the women's hockey team, since they have to do fundraisers to even have a season.
