Washington's "Who Let the Dogs Out" Theme
I'm still thinking about the game experience.
Not sure if folks watching at home saw that "Who Let The Dogs Out" by Baha Men is the Washington Huskies theme song. Easily the cringiest college football non-fight song I have come across. I would be embarrassed to sing along when it came on.
Thank the lord we have "Mr Brightside" and formerly "Pump It Up".
Go Blue!

It's a little shitty to kick them when they're down, but it's especially embarrassing considering the original song is about ugly women at the club
January 12th, 2024 at 11:20 AM ^
LOL. Honestly, never paid attention to the lyrics.
The most uplifting sounding diss track of all time.
Not kicking them when they are down - offering constructive criticism for next year.

Snoop doggy …dog! Wholesome.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:56 AM ^
Umm, I'm pretty sure it is about women calling out men for catcalling them at a party.
"Until the fellas started name-calling (Yippie-Yi-Yo)
And the girls respond to the call, I heard a woman shout out
Who let the dogs out"

Yes, this is correct. It’s actually a feminist song. And before it became a song, the chorus was originally a high school football cheer.
How long after the championship do we have to put up with all the bad takes and other “deep thought” posts? SMH

This is only the beginning--till spring ball, at least.

BoFan, it says you joined this site in 2012? You must have skipped orientation because shit-posting has been a thing here since inception.

I try my best. Clearly after a big win like this, I didn’t stay away long enough.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:34 PM ^
In all fairness...
Ugly women have no business being at the club and how else can they learn their place?
January 12th, 2024 at 1:23 PM ^
You gon be cancelled...
January 12th, 2024 at 1:49 PM ^
...and rightly so.
January 12th, 2024 at 1:39 PM ^
I think we may have uncovered Frames Janklin's burner account....
January 12th, 2024 at 1:18 PM ^
It wasn't their only song - there was a Snoop song too. I thought it was pretty funny actually - didn't mind it.
January 12th, 2024 at 1:45 PM ^
Tequila is one of their songs.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:21 AM ^
I don't know who let the dogs out but Will Johnson and Mike Sainristil rounded them all back up, returned them to the safety of their dog enclosures, and gave them all a pat on the head.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:27 PM ^
I checked with Tom Petty and he said they had the "Dogs On The Run".
January 12th, 2024 at 11:22 AM ^
That's pretty bad. Almost as bad as Michigan State's "I Touch Myself" theme song by Divinyls.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:23 AM ^
Divinyls comin'

Unpopular opinion: ‘Pump it Up’ is a horrible song.
The beat and cadence are fine but if you listen to the actual lyrics, it’s so dumb.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:51 AM ^
The original? Yeah it's dumb.
The one they play at the stadium? It's literally 9 words and meant to do nothing other than PUMP it UP. Which it succeeds.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:15 PM ^
I get it and I get that it works as it was intended. It’s just like a pet peeve of mine, that it is only 9 words. It just doesn’t pump me up ;)
January 12th, 2024 at 12:10 PM ^
It's definitely a terrible song, but I think the way it originated took that into account and actually was one of the reasons everyone loved it.
I actually think the Huskies fans chanting "Who Let the Dogs Out" were not feeling neutered.

And that is why there is yellow snow.

frank zappa, in the house...

I was at the game with my two sons. Every single Washington fan I encountered/observed was pure class. I did not observe a single instance of conflict between the two fanbases. It is my personal decision to compliment that fanbase at every opportunity.
Washington, play whatever songs you want. You have my respect.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:41 AM ^
I will echo this sentiment. At one point I was stuck in the middle of a sea of Husky fans waiting to get into the NRG center for alumni tailgate. They chanted their chants loudly. It was impressive. At no time did they get in our face or anything. I also found myself staying at the Washington marching band hotel (random choice on my part), which was all decorated with Washington stuff. The fans, band members... all friendly and respectful, and were gracious in defeat. I'm sure there must be some jerks in the crowd...every fan base has 'em... but I never saw it.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:53 AM ^
Yeah I feel the exact same way. Washington fans were great. I had a Huskies fan who was about 11 or 12 years old shake my hand on the way into the stadium and wish our team luck. If they want to bark and sing Who Let The Dogs Out, then I say go for it.
And OP: Leave the poor Baha Men alone. They’re just chilling on a beach somewhere minding their own business and here you are taking shots at them on the internet. 😀
January 12th, 2024 at 12:26 PM ^
I got a favorable impression just seeing them on TV. I don't feel that way about other schools (MSU, OSU, etc.).
January 12th, 2024 at 12:00 PM ^
What section were you in?
January 12th, 2024 at 11:36 AM ^
I was at the game and was impressed with how loud the Washington fans were. But all the barking they were doing was still cringey.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:56 AM ^
I think it was the roof effect. You could easily tell postgame that the crowd had been at least 70% Michigan fans.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:39 AM ^
I know I thought "what are they doing" but if I was a Washington fan I would have joined in and taken pride in it.
I remember a lot of Michigan fans on this blog the past couple years saying how dumb Mr Brightside was and now it seems like most fans are on board and sing at the top of their lungs.
Every school has their own thing and they can be proud of it. Unless it is Ohio State or Michigan State no need for us to make fun of it.

Husky = Dog
Duh.
Stop voting if you don't get it.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:52 AM ^
who let the dogs out might be old, but back in the day was your standard, normal stadium music song. don't know what/how/if the huskie fans did anything to change that, but it rose to fame about the same time as chumba-wumba's 'I get knocked down'.
January 12th, 2024 at 11:59 AM ^
That was awful. When they start playing it, i couldn't believe it. Unless that was just the dj doing it, that's an awful team song.
January 12th, 2024 at 1:26 PM ^
"Atomic Dog" would be a much better choice.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:00 PM ^
Easily the cringiest college football non-fight song I have come across.
Pop Evil would like a word.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:11 PM ^
What if I told you Pop Evil had writing credits?
January 12th, 2024 at 12:11 PM ^
Since we're on the topic of cringy songs... lest us not forget this gem.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:12 PM ^
SMH. I can't.
When they came out with it I remember debating what genre that song even is. The easy answer is to joke and say "shitty", but seriously - they may have created the first and last song of a new genre of music.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:39 PM ^
It could be worse...
January 12th, 2024 at 1:52 PM ^
"Heaven, I'm in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak
And I seem to find the happiness I seek
When we're out together, dancing cheek to cheek
"Heaven, I'm in heaven
And the cares that hung around me through the week
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak
When we're out together, dancing cheek to cheek."

Freekbass is almost as bad as if this were a Michigan mascot.
January 12th, 2024 at 2:27 PM ^
Is that the thing MSU made in 2005? I didn't remember they put 97 on it. That was quite magnanimous of them. They should do it again, this time with 23.
January 12th, 2024 at 12:42 PM ^
I played a role in that song expanding beyond being just a standard call & response anthem at carnival in Trinidad and bringing it to the US. I apologize to the entire world. #CoolStoryBro

Don't. I love that fucking song, and the OP can kiss my big Maize and Blue ass.
