Brian Cook quoted by a NY Times columnist
Frank Bruni, columnist for the NY Times, also distributes his column to subscribers with an additional segment called "For the Love of Sentences," of others' clever phrasing, submitted by readers.
Today, he quoted Brian:
In MGoBlog, devoted to University of Michigan sports, Brian Cook previewedthe Michigan football team’s challenge in taking on the University of Alabama and its quarterback, Jalen Milroe, in this year’s Rose Bowl: “The closest QBs to Milroe on the schedule this year were Gavin Wimsatt and Heinrich Haarberg, which is like saying the closest thing to a Saturn V rocket we’ve got is Mentos tossed into a two-liter of Coke.” (Scott Gallisdorfer, Nashville) Note: Michigan beat Alabama in overtime, 27-20.

They missed out on the "nothing in their pockets" brilliance but that was pretty good as well

There's LOTS that could have been quoted. Brian's a funny guy.

Frankly, there are dozens of sentences produced each week by the staff (not to mention diarists and board posters) that are rich prose and even poetry. We're as spoiled literarily as we are in football acumen.

That initial article made my hear full of joy, reading at the end of Brian's NC post where that was block quoted made me cry. I love your passion for Michigan sports Brian, I feel like we were on the same emotional ride as the writers on this site. "They run like they have nothing in their pockets. Nothing at all"
What a joy this team has been!

running like there's nothing in your pockets is probably my second favorite bit i've ever read from brian. My first being "This is not Michigan" column after the Dave Brandon/concussion debacle.

that was a line worth quoting, too.

I'm glad to see that the sports fan/IT professional is getting some recognition for his amazing writing skills.

What is the Scott Gallisdorfer attribution? I'm confused. (Edit: Oh I get it now. Submitted by Gallisdorfer, obviously someone who has a handle on this board.)
Anyway, good line, but I hope Brian was also credited with giving Jesse Minter his game plan. Blitz Milroe! Do not spy!

I suspect it was Gallinsdofer that pointed out the line to the Bruni for inclusion in his weekly column. No way Bruni can read everything, so he most likely relies on contributors.

Good choice of a line to quote. The state of B1G QB's was laid bare - and the entire B1G should hang their head in shame.
Of course, even if the coaches and AD's for those other 13 teams read that sentence, they wouldn't understand it's significance.

Is the link broken for anyone else?

Very cool to make a big time splash in the NYT, Mr. Cook!

Brian has written about 3,000 sentences in this blog that are quite worthy or t-shirt worthy

Yeah, I remember getting a chuckle out of that line. Thanks for sharing.

I don't even remember this line, I thought for sure it would be the 'nothing in their pockets' line.
