Michigan State point guard Jeremy Fears shot in the leg
MSU freshman PG Jeremy Fears was shot in the leg while at home in Illinois over holiday break. The gunman is still at large.
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:12 PM ^
Hope they catch the shooter and Jeremy will be okay.
December 23rd, 2023 at 7:19 PM ^
Maybe this is Plaxico style.
December 23rd, 2023 at 9:39 PM ^
It wasn't, and suggesting otherwise is a bad look.
December 26th, 2023 at 10:17 AM ^
How did this get downvoted?
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
Severe enough that he required surgery.
I guess it could have been worse. Get well, young man.
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
Gun play late in the night...not good. This could have ended so tragically!!
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
Matt Wile once said “nothing good happens after midnight.”
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:03 PM ^
One of the rules of stupid: Don't do stupid things at stupid times with stupid people at stupid places.
December 23rd, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
That's too complicated for your average stupid
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:13 PM ^
Simple but true. I’ve seen up close, many times, how arbitrary life and death are, and how where someone chooses to be, when they choose to be there, and who they choose to associate with can have tragic consequences, even when the person themselves was doing nothing wrong. I’m glad the kid is ok. I hope he learns a lesson.
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:46 PM ^
Listen, I'm all for lessons/consequences when someone makes a questionable choice, but if you're in a home and someone comes in shooting, the only person at fault is the shooter. Don't give me the "in with the wrong crowd" nonsense, either. You know nothing about this kid's life, so just wish for a swift recovery and leave it at that. Everything else is gross.
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:59 PM ^
Sure. Someone probably just picked a house at random, where nothing was happening, and decided to bust in at 3:30 in the morning and start shooting. Happens all the time.
December 23rd, 2023 at 7:15 PM ^
If you happen to think that it's pretty universally not ok for someone to bust in and try to shoot someone, it doesn't matter how often or seldom it happens OR what they were doing inside.
December 23rd, 2023 at 8:35 PM ^
The point is to avoid associating with those who live in the part of society where “pretty universally not ok” doesn’t apply. I’m happy for you that you know nothing about that part of life.
December 23rd, 2023 at 8:50 PM ^
This is an absurd statement. You don't control where you grow up, and Joliet, IL isn't exactly a great place to be. You don't just "avoid associating" with people you've known your whole life, and sometimes things aren't that simple.
Honestly dude, don't fucking talk to me about what "parts of life" I know. You know precisely dick about where I grew up and what I know.
Your handle *is* "The Oracle 2". Is this just part of your shtick of pretending you know things when actually talking out of your ass?
December 23rd, 2023 at 8:51 PM ^
Life can be random but percentages do apply.
December 23rd, 2023 at 9:03 PM ^
I didn't say anything about random or not random. If a kid grows up in a bad neighborhood in a dangerous city, it's not random at all. There are going to be people like this in his life. And some kids are going to be very close to people like that. This is true of Michigan players, OSU players, Oregon St. players, etc.
Acting like the kid's doing something wrong by simply being in his home town with people he was close with growing up is not a good look. He's still a Freshman. It takes a long time to remove these types of connections from your life, and if you grow up where this is what you know, it's not even a deal breaker as long as they don't try to get you to do anything illegal.
All I'm saying is this: focus blame where it belongs. Solely on the person who did the shooting. That's it. I'm done talking about this.
December 23rd, 2023 at 9:19 PM ^
I don’t disagree with you in general in fact in many ways I passionately agree with you. Loyalty and friends are real.
However you can’t exclude the hey dude this scene could end up with trouble concept.
I have put myself in plenty of shitty situations and didn’t deserve to get hurt. Doesn’t mean I was doing the smart thing or the wrong thing.
December 23rd, 2023 at 9:36 PM ^
I agree with that too. However, if something does happen, I don't think those types of things are worth discussing. They can have their lives and we don't have to be involved.
December 23rd, 2023 at 11:04 PM ^
It’s too bad they haven’t put you in charge of what things are worth discussing, but you could always choose not to discuss them yourself.
December 24th, 2023 at 5:39 AM ^
You’re embarrassing.
December 24th, 2023 at 1:59 PM ^
Ah, a random poster on the internet has undisclosed superior knowledge. Okay.
December 24th, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
I don't know if you're talking to me on this because the formatting is tough to tell. However, if you are: I wasn't saying I had any superior knowledge whatsoever. I was saying that he has no insight into what my life experience is or what I know, because I am (as you said) a poster on the internet. He made an assumption that I haven't seen these parts of life. He's mistaken, but the point isn't what I know. It's that he knows nothing about me.
December 23rd, 2023 at 7:01 PM ^
Nothing good happens in Joliet at any time of the day
December 23rd, 2023 at 7:23 PM ^
Joliet Jake disagrees.
December 24th, 2023 at 2:00 PM ^
says someone from Chicago
December 24th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
Yeah it's not like Chicago has a thriving food scene, awesome music, great cocktails, fun shopping, solid pizza (Pequod's only, thanks), 6 major sports teams (including soccer), decently reliable transit, a world-class artistic culture, and a fun and exciting blend of cultures that give it a unique personality.
People want to lean on gang violence in Chicago like it's the identifying characteristic of the city when it's not even in the 25 most dangerous places in the U.S. It's not even as dangerous as Indianapolis in homicide rate.
Fun talking point, though. Also Joliet sucks.
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
serious response: glad the wound is not more serious, surgery and all, could've been worse.
not so serious response: waiting for tiny tom to blame the kid for getting shot, with a weak, 'we should coach better about that' comment to make it look like it's not as bad.
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:38 PM ^
Another not so serious response: Yet another bullet taken by Izzo
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:45 PM ^
Izzo, always playing the victim.
Countless rape accusations and now multiple shooting victims.
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:58 PM ^
Not serious take: that bullet would have went over Izzo’s head.
serious take: hope he has a full recovery. I know a kid that was shot in a park in Chicago during the day. The police think it might have been a gang initiation
December 24th, 2023 at 2:29 AM ^
Both serious and non-serious response:
I know Everybody Wants to Rule the World, but I hope there are no tears for Fears. We live in a Mad World, but it makes me want to Shout sometimes.
December 24th, 2023 at 6:39 AM ^
you get knocked down, but you get up again.
December 24th, 2023 at 8:50 AM ^
Something happens and i'm Head over Heels
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:31 PM ^
Hope he is ok.
Has Plaxico been in Illinois lately?
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:56 PM ^
Plax is only dangerous to himself. The only tragedy in that instance was that the shot that went down his pants didn't render him unable to procreate.
Back when I actually cared about pro football, I was a Giants fan. I couldn't believe the level of stupidity with that guy.
December 23rd, 2023 at 5:39 PM ^
More details on espn. He was shot in the thigh and a 19 year old female was shot in the pelvis. No update on the female other than non life threatening injuries.
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:26 PM ^
Juwan needs to run a cleaner program!!!
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:26 PM ^
Oh, no. That's terrible. Wishing him well, and quickly.
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:28 PM ^
Glad to see it wasn’t too serious. Surgery and recovering. Hope he gets healthy and can compete on the court again.
December 23rd, 2023 at 6:44 PM ^
Just the traditional Christmas gunplay.
December 23rd, 2023 at 8:29 PM ^
Sucks we have to worry about being shot at any time in this country. What a failure of leadership
December 23rd, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
Glad he’ll seemingly make a full recovery.
Any word if the Michigan Tunnel is a suspect or played a role here?
December 23rd, 2023 at 9:34 PM ^
I read the title too fast and thought this was another anti-vax story. Hope everyone makes a full recovery.
December 23rd, 2023 at 10:42 PM ^
He got shot in the leg and her in the pelivs. Could it have been from the same bullet if they were, uh, in the prone position? I "fear" someone found Fears and his companion in a compromising position and didn't approve.
December 23rd, 2023 at 11:57 PM ^
Love all the wieners posting things like "nothing good happens after midnight." Oh okay, you were in bed by 10 pm every single night when you were in college then? As a dude who got through school delivering for Pizza House: a lot of good kids are still awake at 3:30 am.
December 24th, 2023 at 7:28 AM ^
First, it was 3:45 AM and the shooter clearly locked on to the young lady and Fears....I am guessing they know who was the angry shooter....that said, snitches get ditches so nobody is talking and the cycle of violence will continue.
December 24th, 2023 at 7:35 AM ^
Oh, it was like 85% of other violent crimes where the assailant knew the victim? I take it back: he should have been in bed by 8:30 instead.
