Playoff Chaos Scenario Unlocked: Who ya got and does the committee have the guts to make the right call?

Submitted by ImRightYouKnow on December 2nd, 2023 at 11:39 PM

Michigan and Washington, automatic ins.

FSU, deserves to be in.

One last spot that the committee is dying to give to Bama, but they'd have to go against all previous precedents set regarding head to head wins and undefeated P5 teams mattering.

Does the committee have the guts to make the right call and stonewall their SEC crushes?

You want Joel Klatt, ESPN, and the SEC deciding that or the players on the field? What is the down side of taking it out of the hands of people that watch ESPN everyday as their sports information source. Let the field of play decide.

Imagine if Oregon/Wash didnt play today. We all thought for sure Oregon was better.

The correct thing to do:

1. Mich vs 4. FSU

2. UDub vs 3. Tejas

They will no doubt be worried that Pete Fartbomb will go on a killing spree but I'm pretty sure my 12 year niece would fuck that dude up.  Don't be pussys you committee hacks.

To me you can't go on subjective nonsense.  Washington has the best strength of record, they're the #1 seed.  Michigan #2, FSU #3.  Texas beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, so they get in over Alabama.

Rose Bowl: Washington and Texas

Sugar Bowl: Michigan and FSU

And sure I'm biased and want us to get the Noles because I think they are the worst team of the five.  But they haven't lost.  (Also that defense is really really good)

The right call is

  • Washington #2
  • Michigan #1
  • FSU #3
  • Texas #4 (they beat Alabama #8, who also beat Georgia #1)

Sorry SEC, thanks for playing.

Take your tantrum out on Texas and Oklahoma on the field next year

The SEC was meh this year. They weren’t good in non con. Alabama just won a game on 4th and 31. This year feels easy if not for the injury to Travis and sec bs. It’s the 3 undefeated and Texas because they won the damn game

Should be

  1. Michigan
  2. Washington
  3. FSU
  4. Texas

I am skeptical the committee is going to lock the SEC out. I think there's a non-zero chance they poopoo both FSU and Texas and give us this. Hopefully I'm extremely wrong

  1. Michigan
  2. Washington
  3. Alabama
  4. Georgia

It’s pretty simple

1) Michigan

2) Washington

3) FSU

4) Texas

You could make an argument to have at 3 because of the strength of the Bama win.

Who knows though. The sec bias is real

The criteria says “best” 4 teams. I don’t think anyone seriously thinks FSU is better than Bama, Texas, or Georgia.

the field will be Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Bama.

I really hope Washington jumps us and we play Texas

FSU beat LSU 45-24. I seriously know that FSU was 3 scores better than a top SEC team. I don’t much about Georgia because they played 8 home games, only 8 SEC games, and their best win was a road victory over an overrated Tennessee. I know Bama lost to Texas by 10 at home and it took a miracle (or coaching malpractice) for them to beat a mediocre Auburn team. An Auburn team led by a mediocre Big10 QB. An Auburn team that lost by 21 to NMSU a week before taking Alabama down to the wire. Give me a break. Fuck the SEC.

What do you do when the people in charge of the rules break the rules? Lot of that going on in order to put narratives forward in place of endeavor. They suck as humans and always will.

My bet is…

UM

WA

FSU

TX

goes against what I said earlier, but no effing way you can leave a 13-0 fsu out. Still hard to imagine SEC not being in there though. I’ll stick with the above but the below would not surprise me…

The committee does not have the guts, but it absolutely should be:

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Florida State
4. Texas

We'd get the hardest semi-final opponent, but that's just how things ended up.

What's sad is that this is as easy as it gets. 3 undefeated conference Champs, 2 1-loss conference Champs. One of which beat the other. The only argument Alabama has is they are in the SEC. That isn't an argument. If Texas had beaten Washington instead, Washington would be out. Ditto Michigan and Florida State. It's an easy call.

UM is going to be the #1 seed, yet draw Bama as the #4 seed in the semis. Not fair. #1 seed should have the easiest semi-final game. That's why you want the #1 seed in the first place.

My predicted CFP seeding:

#1 Michigan

#2 Washington

#3 Texas

#4 Alabama

Eh. It's not about conspiracy. If they want the four "best" teams, yeah, it's not FSU, as I think both Alabama and Texas are better

But in terms of "deserving," I think it should be FSU. All you can do is win the games on your schedule — especially if you're in a Power 5 conference with a conference championship game. What more could they do?

It should be FSU, and I think it will be FSU, if only so the Committee can avoid the inevitable controversy that will arise if they choose Alabama over them. But ... they say they're picking the "best" four teams, and will take injuries into account, so ... who knows?

Last year they put two Big Ten teams in, despite Alabama whining they deserved it. There's no conspiracy. Sometimes people of good will have differing opinions. C'est la vie.

I don't see a good case for anything other than Michigan, Washington, Florida State, Texas.

It's unfortunate that scheduling a good non-conference opponent screwed Alabama, but that's the way it worked out.

Can't rank Alabama ahead of Texas. Can't rank Georgia ahead of Alabama.

There's a small chance Florida State gets bumped by Alabama, but I think the committee would have bumped them down last week if they were considering it.

Is the SEC the best conference this year? Probably. Are there problems with a four-team playoff? Absolutely. But that's where we are.
