Ryan Day met Zinter's parents to console them in tunnel after he was carted off the field
This may have already been discussed in another thread and I just missed it (a LOT of threads since yesterday afternoon for some reason 🤔). Either way, for all the (rightful and well-earned) ire directed at Ryan Day from our fanbase, this is still good to see.
Freep link warning (for those who still observe the tradition):

I personally don't think OSU coaches have animosity towards our players. JJ had something nice to say about OSU players. These are still kids and young men they are dealing with. Nice to see Day reaching out.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:19 AM ^
I’ve always viewed Day as a young guy who is in a little over his head as coach of one of the biggest football teams in the world. There’s tremendous pressure on him, and his response to that pressure is to be bitchy.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:34 AM ^
I agree. Even when he doesn't say the "wrong" thing his words are clumsy like he hasn't been here before.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:09 AM ^
So basically he is Brick Tamland.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:13 AM ^
Props to Ryan Day for being a decent human and it is important for us to acknowledge that. Now onto the relevant gif:
November 26th, 2023 at 9:26 AM ^
Maybe his llegal advance scouting with Schiano is why the leg it broken to begin with?
November 26th, 2023 at 9:22 AM ^
…like he was born on third base, thinking he hit a triple?
November 26th, 2023 at 7:54 AM ^
That can be true. What is also true is that he is insipid piece of trash who is so arrogant as to claim that the only reason he could possibly lose is that the opponents cheated. Mr. We're A Tough Team couldn't be more Third Base if he tried.
We should never forget nor forgive the inherently obvious involvement of Ryan Day and Ohio State in the coordinated PR attack on the University of Michigan these past six weeks that ultimately got them on the precipice of exactly what they wanted (No Harbaugh for The Game).
That it didn't quite work out the way they thought it would is simply sublime and confirming of a world view of Buckeyes that is ceaselessly supported by their own actions. They thought they got Michigan, what they got was an all on the table and no excuses whatsoever showdown where Day has nothing for an excuse, he has to look in the mirror and know he got his ass kicked on the field. Again.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:48 AM ^
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has a hand in the bogus investigation into the Stalions thing. I think Day is a weak person and resorted to such tactics because he's scared for his job.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:33 AM ^
That’s probably the reason, but to try and tear down an entire institution just to keep your job is an extremely shitty thing to do. Glad to see he does have a little humanity left. Too bad it took a serious injury to a great kid to bring it out.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:56 AM ^
Magnum, your observation seems to me exactly right. Not a bad guy—despite my regularly feeling he is—but a young guy, maybe a callow one, trying to figure out how to handle the pressure.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:14 AM ^
the sentiment in your post AND the use of "callow" merit upvotes!
November 26th, 2023 at 9:04 AM ^
Not Gallo … Callo.
November 26th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
OMG, we watched that movie last night!!
November 26th, 2023 at 8:49 AM ^
I think he does stupid shit, but his primary motivation for most the things he says and does is fear
November 26th, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
Tons and tons of horrible things were done because "I was scared". That doesn't make it any less shitty.
If you think your fear justifies doing shitty things, you are not exonerated, you are shitty.
Day is a shitty person. Him doing a single nice gesture doesn't change that.
November 26th, 2023 at 10:37 AM ^
Young guy? He's 44! He's been a fully grown adult for more than 20 years! He's four years older than Mike Gundy was when he made the most legendary claim to being "a man" in history! I really don't understand the impulse to call him callow.
November 26th, 2023 at 11:19 AM ^
Yes, don't infantilize him. That just gives him cover. He is a full grown man.
He made his choices and now has to live with them. Forever.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:11 PM ^
I agree with this assessment. He's a bitch. Bitches speak to the manager when they don't get their way instead of working to change. Bitches bitch at the refs instead of coaching their team. Bitches also recognize when they need to do the "right thing" with their tail between their legs.
Body language says it all. Also Sherrone Moore is 7 years younger than Cryin Day.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:50 AM ^
You don’t see the cheap shots when we play them. Big difference from when we play State where the coaches not so subtly encourage it.
November 26th, 2023 at 11:42 AM ^
No cheap shots?
You notice who wasn't next to Day, when he was consoling Zinter's parents?
Jim Harbaugh.
Hmm. I wonder who had a hand in that.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
I agree that what he did was 'nice', and that viewed from a neutral to a sympathetic to osu viewpoint, his actions could even be called...'classy'. I'll put forth an alternate hypothesis: the guy that allegedly launched an investigation of questionable legal means that fueled an allegedly PR smear campaign, knows something about appearances and took advantage of being on the sideline where the tunnel is, and did what every coach in America would be expected to do, and console the parents.
No while I think this is more inline with his actions, I also have to say I don't think he is sociopathic and doesn't genuinely feel fornpeople in the moment, but he is still the same guy that will use any means to achieve what is expected of him. To all that, I'll politely nod in approval for his actions in the moment, but he retains all the distrust he's brought to the rivalry.
Tl/Dr- Day did and didn't do what is expected of him, still a dipwad, osu still sucks.
November 26th, 2023 at 6:46 AM ^
Fuck Ryan Day. This makes me even more upset that coach Harbaugh was not there to support his player and family in that moment - which I believe he is directly responsible for. I wish the cart ran over his foot.
November 26th, 2023 at 6:48 AM ^
At the end of the day, it's a game. Fuck OSU, but I'm sure all of us know terrible OSU AND Michigan fans. Day did a respectable thing, at least give him that. We can hate him for every other thing he does related to football.
November 26th, 2023 at 6:57 AM ^
I don't like Day, at all, but this comment is bad and you should feel bad.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
Fair enough. My frustration with Jim not being there got the better of me. Thanks for calling this out.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:22 AM ^
I support this comment. Evil people occasionally do respectable things. Maybe it makes them less evil, but still evil.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:30 AM ^
“evil?” no.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:08 AM ^
Good take.
In comparison, Meyer I hated even before he coached there. Then even more when he did. He's evil.
Day I hate only because he coaches there.
There's a difference.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:22 AM ^
Holy shit, what you guys count as evil… You need to watch some more true crime shows.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:25 AM ^
Someone who knew of and hid his knowledge of a domestic abuser and had pictures of himself while cheating on his wife...For starters
November 26th, 2023 at 8:39 AM ^
No doubt. This is the toxicity I hate. Day has occasionally said some unfortunate things, but damn, I'm sure he's a decent guy. Same with Urban Meyer, who said some genuinely respectful and positive things about the Michigan team after the game yesterday.
Damn. I like beating them as much as the next Michigan fan. Maybe more. But the sanctimony and over-the-top emotion on this message board too often goes way too far.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:46 AM ^
Let me be clear, Meyer is the only osu coach I think of this way. Every other I had a respect for, and I consider myself someone with a healthy respect of the rivalry. Meyer earned my ire before he got there and has only built on it since then.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:20 AM ^
Born on third hired a pi firm to not only end our season but smear our school, fuck all you Day apologists. PATHETIC. One act of human decency in a tunnel is bare minimum humanity, you don't have to compliment a piece of shit.
November 26th, 2023 at 1:13 PM ^
grow up.
November 26th, 2023 at 6:48 AM ^
Ryan Day is still an asshat
November 26th, 2023 at 8:17 AM ^
He gives me the vibe of a spoiled New England rich kid who isn’t necessarily a bad person but will call up daddy to fix things for him when things aren’t going his way
November 26th, 2023 at 8:50 AM ^
...eh, not defending Day, but you might want to check out the history of his daddy
November 26th, 2023 at 9:41 AM ^
He is but he did the right thing, no matter how obvious and compelled it was for him to do so.
Believe it or not, somethings are bigger than this rivalry and gestures like this go a long way to showing solidarity for every player who takes the field for both sides. Devin Gardner’s on-field gesture also comes to mind.
November 26th, 2023 at 11:45 AM ^
If some things are bigger than this rivalry then maybe not run with this "BIGGEST SCANDAL IN THE HISTORY OF THE BIG TEN" to get a coach suspended so he couldn't be with an injured player and his parents because that hyperbole kind of rankles when this is the conference that gave us Sandusky, Nassar, Anderson, and Strauss.
Day is apparently OK, if by inaction, with trampling all over thousands of abuse victims to get his way, but he gave Zinter's parents a pat on the head so we're totes cool with him now?
November 26th, 2023 at 1:02 PM ^
No, he’s still an asshat as mentioned above and won’t be forgiven for all the rabble rabble about the signs but it’s ok to acknowledge an honest show of sportsmanship especially after losing The Game.
Again, he’s still a douche but he did the decent thing when he didn’t have to.
November 26th, 2023 at 6:51 AM ^
Honestly, the kids have shown each other a ton of respect that last couple years. It is the opposite of the MSU game which had been getting ugly. I found myself really appreciating some of the OSU kids. I don't ever want to see Marvin Harrison Jr. again. I looked at their 2021 recruiting class and it was loaded. I will be glad to see most of those kids heading to the NFL. It is so impressive that we somehow figured out how to beat them three years in a row.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:00 AM ^
Yeah. I was at the game yesterday and it really didn't feel toxic between the fanbases or the opposing players. The teams both played hard between the whistles, but I observed real respectful behavior outside of that too. I saw an OSU player hand a towel back to a Michigan player after the play was over, the OSU team being respectful of Zinter's injury, and I saw the OSU defense shake hands with our offense even as the game deciding Moore interception was being reviewed.
Similarly, I didn't see vitriol directed at players from either fanbase (or really even at other fans). The refs got a lot of very well earned boos and FUs, but even when OSU did impressive things (mostly various MHJR circus catches), the vibe was just like "damn that's annoying but also amazing."
November 26th, 2023 at 7:17 AM ^
Meh, there was quite a bit of pushing and shoving as there always is, it's just both teams aren't taught to cheap shot like MSU is.
And I'm not sure I've ever seen as much vitriol from the stands as I have the last two games against them. But probably two of the loudest crowds I've ever experienced as well. Reminds me of what the Horseshoe was once known for minus the physical violence.
November 26th, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
The MSU coaches don’t teach their players to take cheap shots
One product of being a third tier recruiting program is that you have to take low-character guys in order to get any talent
November 26th, 2023 at 7:35 AM ^
Do you recall Pat Narduzzi?
November 26th, 2023 at 8:28 AM ^
“That's what we tried to do, 60 minutes of unnecessary roughness."
November 26th, 2023 at 7:42 AM ^
I am not sure about that. All the shoves after the whistle were part of their game plan. There were too many times when all 11 Spartans gave an extra shove after the whistle. Incredibly bush league.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:18 AM ^
Lets say they didn't teach late hits - but they certainly encouraged them.
November 26th, 2023 at 9:06 AM ^
Yeah, or just didn't discourage them. I honestly think Sparty gets a lot of low-class, insecure, douchebag players who just do douchebag things
