Yahoo article on AD meeting
https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-big-ten-ads-urging-commissioner-tony-p…
summary:
“However, a decision from the league is uncertain, though options have been discussed. On their calls over the last week in fact, high-level school administrators and Petitti have pored over a wide range of possibilities. There was talk, for instance, of any penalty not impacting players directly. A suspension of coach Jim Harbaugh may be the most likely and “cleanest” penalty if one were handed down, one source said.”
“The policy was at the center of discussions last week between school leaders and Petitti. According to the policy, the commissioner can take disciplinary action that is considered “standard” or “major.””
“
Standard action includes a fine not exceeding $10,000 and a suspension of no more than two contests. Major action is anything exceeding those penalties and is subject to approval from the Big Ten executive board of presidents.”

So sounds like if Big 10 did anything..it would be like 1 or 2 games and 10k..
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:15 PM ^
On hearsay? Here’s my lawsuit
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:01 PM ^
Sure lol
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
GTFO troll. Go back to 11W and tell your buddies how cool you are by pretending to be a Xichigan fan.
November 2nd, 2023 at 10:08 PM ^
Not to mention this minor detail: even if the allegations are true Stallions' actions do appear to constitute any violation of NCAA rules. (Unless the CMU activity proves to be a violation. But even then there would only be one violation and there is no indication in the regs that it would be a serious one.)
November 2nd, 2023 at 7:57 PM ^
Wow ESPN articles now control the Big Ten Conference. "Sources" are leading to suspensions possibly? This is ugly. UGLY. And I dont mean on our end.
Amazing.
November 2nd, 2023 at 7:59 PM ^
ESPN sure seems to be the real driver of this all...over every other media out there
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:15 PM ^
Let's see, the Big Ten has a fresh media deal with Fox, CBS, and NBC. But not ESPN. Interesting.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:16 PM ^
Crazy huh..what a coinkydink
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:12 PM ^
Yeah it is. If I was Michigan and this was the case -- punishment before trial - I'd tell them to go f themselves.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:16 PM ^
They don’t control it anymore. That’s why they are the ones throwing rocks. To protect their SEC
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
"Sources" is 99%+ "More than one OSU coach/staffer"
There is literally nothing to see here.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
Yeah, just connect the dots. It’s obvious that ESPN has motivated bias. If they can damage the Big Ten they can more effectively compete for ad sales on their outlets. Pretty important when Iger and the Disney board is getting heat to fix ESPN’s growth and content costs or explore options for a spin-off.
November 2nd, 2023 at 7:58 PM ^
If the Big Ten tries anything, Michigan would consider legal action and start taking phone calls from the SEC. And then Fox would leash Petitti. Petitti know this, so nothing will happen.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:03 PM ^
Especially if this year, though I don't see anything this year when they are saying to not affect the players..so at worst they might try some BS next year
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:50 PM ^
I honestly don't think UofM's administration would seek or take overtures from the SEC.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:13 PM ^
Agree. That's just crazy talk.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
No, but independence or the ACC is a real option. Michigan sees itself as a national rather than regional brand based on its footprint of students, alums, and fans. ND stays independent for the same reason. If anything, the top of the ACC is more in line academically with who Michigan considers peer institutions. And we went independent once before in the early 20th century for a short time.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:37 PM ^
I don’t want us to leave Big Ten because we have a lot of history here athletically and academically. But we have to be prepared as a deterrent measure to prevent us from being singled out, which has happened all too often despite the fact that we are the most balanced institution in the conference and do more than any other institution to advance and maintain its prominence while receiving comparatively less value in return.
November 2nd, 2023 at 10:23 PM ^
I don't want us to leave the Big Ten either, but if the conference is going to levy penalties before a notice of allegations has even been delivered, then we have no choice but to at least explore other conference options. It would be an outrageous mockery of due process for the conference to levy in-season penalties based on one-sided leaks, and it would demand a drastic response from Michigan.
November 3rd, 2023 at 12:11 AM ^
Don't run away, fight back. If rules-aren't-for-us Ohio State wants to go Mutually Assured Destruction, then go thermonuclear on their ass.
There is no way they could survive aggressive scrutiny of that program.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:55 PM ^
It would bring me unmitigated joy to watch Michigan openly flirt with the SEC; however, that doesn't dovetail with what I've been told about higher ups at the university and their attitude towards athletics vs. academics.
This isn't an LOL SEC joke, it's doubt that the issues of the football program would be placed ahead of any other interests.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:00 PM ^
ACC has some good schools..
November 3rd, 2023 at 12:12 AM ^
And just added two of the best - Stanford and Cal.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:09 PM ^
Given how well we've done the past three years, and then our history and tradition, I wouldn't want to be the people they'd have to hire to read all the emails and snail mail that would come in railing on their decisions.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:14 PM ^
I agree overall, but the university should at least publicly consider leaving (and be willing to act on that threat) if the conference behaves in a sufficiently unfair manner. I'm not cheering for it to happen; I hope cooler heads prevail and the conference defers to the NCAA investigation. What I am saying is that B1G membership, while meaningful to the university, is not a suicide pact.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:27 PM ^
Right on. I'm not begging out of the B1G, but if Harbaugh is suspended and the school is even nominally fined based on what we have right now (speculation, no formal allegations) at minimum I'd enjoy Michigan making the conference and its TV partners squirm via ample overtures to/from the SEC and to a lesser extent ACC.
My feelings about actually leaving the conference, unlikely as I find that to be, are more complicated.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:01 PM ^
Funny that ESPN no longer carries big ten games and they seem to be the ones that is keeping this absurd story in the news every...... single..... fucking..... .day.
Trying so hard to get 2 SEC teams into the playoff.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:40 PM ^
Yes, for a network that begrudgingly covered our program when they did have a contract with the Big Ten, they sure seem to have plenty of time to besmirch Michigan in their sham news coverage.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:41 PM ^
I would love to hear our very own "Helloooo Heisman" Desmond Howard speak to this situation. I have not watched gameday all year, but I would if Desmond cut his mouth loose and pulled a "Not so fast my friend" on Gameday. Rip his Shirt off like Hogan, with a We Support you Jim shirt underneath. Stick it to the man Desmond. Fox has a job for you my guy!!
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:02 PM ^
I really don’t think the Big Ten is gonna do anything before an actual investigation. You wanna open that can of worms? Because I bet Michigans got the money cannons to hire some PIs and dig some dirt up on OSU
Ill bet they ultimately issue a statement of concern or something to placate the scarlet and grey hoards and say they’re waiting for the NCAA investigation
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
“placate the scarlet and grey WHORES”
fify
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:02 PM ^
This is the most level-headed take I've seen (from Klatt)...
Lots of sources and articles about how "mad" opposing coaches are about Michigan...The level of anger has a direct relationship with the success Michigan has had over the last two+ seasons...Also, the level of anger is not grounds for an unprecedented overreach from the commish
The investigation should run its course, and a notice of allegations sent to the program. Why would we have a different process for these allegations than we would for a tampering case?
Every infraction should be handled with the same process. To demand otherwise is a fools errand. Doesn't matter who or what. Gather evidence, present evidence, respond, judgement, punishment. That's how it works.

ESPN is mad it lost its deal with the Big Ten and wants Michigan to get banned forever and FOX wants to protect Michigan.
This is the state of college football and media now.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:14 PM ^
Sure, but what Klatt's stating is logical and rational- tough to refute.
November 2nd, 2023 at 10:57 PM ^
Are you saying that OSU isn't tough?
November 2nd, 2023 at 11:01 PM ^
I'm sorry but in our modern world, 'loud and repetitive' trump 'logical and rational' every time. Such is life
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:30 PM ^
ESPN isn't mad that they lost the Big Ten. They're mad that the SEC blows this year, and it's no guarantee the on field product will improve next season.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:42 PM ^
Klatt has proven yet again that he's one of the good ones. I'm really glad he's with us on this one.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
Oh my lord somebody needs to get these programs their “binky” and their blankey.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:05 PM ^
Fine, suspend Harbaugh 2 games then. We only need him for the last one. We could have Stalions as head coach for the PSU game and still have a major coaching advantage.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:13 PM ^
Suspend him tomorrow and Northwestern next year
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:17 PM ^
I'm actually not okay with this, but I guess there are worse outcomes.
November 2nd, 2023 at 10:41 PM ^
Whatever happened to due process?
I'm not OK with anything until we know the facts and that means a formal notice of investigation from the sham NCAA and a formal response from Michigan, and that brings us to the Spring game.
Being tried in the press is pure bullshit. If due process rules are not followed then head for the courtroom.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:44 PM ^
Hot take, and I love Jim, but I think we win against OSU even if Jim is suspended.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:47 PM ^
They've got you believing there should be a suspension when we don't even know what anyone really did.
November 2nd, 2023 at 9:51 PM ^
Hot take, and I love Jim, but I think we win against OSU even if Jim is suspended.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
I got scorched earlier for posting about this meeting that others said was "routine". I had a bad feeling about this but now I feel better knowing a 2 game suspension is probably the worst case scenario.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
You know in a routine meeting they talk about current events. It is how we all thought it would go. I don't remember if negged you. LOL. I have been going through a roller coaster emotionally as well. Here is a +1.
I am also happy that the punishment seems so small. However, it should be no punishment because Harbaugh did nothing wrong or has not been proven. Investigation is not concluded. Harbaugh is the coach and he will be held responsible regardless means they have to prove that UM did not train their staff. It is not a blanket he gets the punishment as far as I understand based on what is being reported in this board. Deciding the punishment before investigation is complete is premature and will lead to possible lawsuit and future issues.
November 2nd, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
If the B1G does anything unilaterally it's time to contact the SEC.
This years OSU game is going to be an officiating shit show. Be ready.
