META: I don't know who TruStage is, but they need to never get any business from any of us.

Not funny, and don't called me Francis either.
Between a gallon of Tito's and our obliteration of Staee on Saturday, this ad convinced me that term life insurance and reverse mortgage were excellent products in which I should consider.

Family Guy had an episode last night about Tom Selleck and his reverse mortgages commercials

TruStage sucks and I hope they go into bankruptcy.
October 23rd, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
We're trying to figure out how that ad keeps getting in. We don't get revenue from it because we don't run full-page ads. None. I had a call on Friday about measures we can take.
October 23rd, 2023 at 8:27 PM ^
You guys need to check every stage, says it right on their website... I kid I kid
October 23rd, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
Agree with OP. Please figure this out.
October 23rd, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
You should build a program that auto populates an ad that states “Tru Stage morgage is run by pedophile goat fuckers who went to Ohio State and they don’t believe you’ll call their office to complain” and then put their corporate phone number.
A couple of days of those calls and I’ll bet they pull the ad.
October 23rd, 2023 at 9:22 PM ^
And here I thought fucking mature goats was beyond the pale.

Seth, apologies for the potential dumb question but have you tried just contacting their corporate leadership and board's email addresses (all on copy) letting them know they're likely victims of click fraud and referencing this thread about the negative sentiment it's generating?
if there's one thing C-level execs don't like it's a potential board member actually asking questions about what they're doing. While it's possible their intent is to piss off otherwise neutral people I'm guessing they're getting gamed as well. Occam's razor is that their head of marketing thought they found a super low cost way of running full page ads and didn't ask a lot of questions. Clicks are up, impressions are up, so why ask bothersome questions on why conversion is not up?
October 24th, 2023 at 3:32 AM ^
Unless the board chair went around the interim president to meet with ad agencies to get this placed in various places without their knowledge of consent.
I hear that's a thing that board chairs can do.

This is a bad week for underpaid staffers doing stupid shit.
October 24th, 2023 at 4:36 AM ^
LOL at C-level execs and board members. Do they even exist? As far as I'm concerned, this may be Stalion's sole venture no one has yet to discover.
Stud. What a chess move.

I stopped posting or commenting at MGoBlog last December (except for a single post with well wishes and prayers for Seth's son.) But I hate the TruStage ad so very much, I'm moved right now to briefly break my fast and to post my irritation and disgust. Let alone the fact I will NEVER EVER buy anything, invest anything, do anything with TruStage. It is to the point, MGoBlog will be moved off of my regular reading schedule. It is so irritating, I'm wondering if it is a ploy by Brian or Seth to get readers to buy a subscription. Because, I would gladly pay to read here if that eliminated full page ads.
October 23rd, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
Stephen. If you're currently willing to pay to read here free of ads? You can actually achieve that easily by installing a simple ad blocker in your browser and then making regular "beveled guilt" contributions to MGoBlog, Inc..
Works quite well.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:19 PM ^
I pretty much annually have bought the mgoblog magazine and t-shirt for $50. I guess I could give more. I've used ad blockers before, but they have their own problems. Visually and mentally, I can manage to ignore almost all ads. Obviously, the TruStage ad is in a different category.
Targeted ads have gotten so bad that I have even thought to go to the library to search, so that I don't get ads based on my searching and browsing history.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:31 PM ^
I understand the problem with targeted ads. The way I've solved that issue is to use a non-tracking search engine like Duckduckgo. I get decent search results with no unpleasant side effects.
October 23rd, 2023 at 10:21 PM ^
It is NOT a ploy by Brian or Seth. See Seth's comment above. It is frustrating them too.
October 23rd, 2023 at 10:31 PM ^
I'm wondering if it is a ploy by Brian or Seth to get readers to buy a subscription.
Uhhhhh, there is no subscription option. At least not until you've reached the necessary points threshold.

Yep, that ad blocks my view of the website all the time now causing constant need to refresh only to have it pop up a 30 second later.
October 23rd, 2023 at 9:30 PM ^
Is there an effective way we can spam them and their stupid site that makes them feel pain?
October 23rd, 2023 at 10:16 PM ^
That is the answer. If they want all of our attention, lets give them all of our attention.

Oh god, they're in Madison. Pity I'm not there; I could leave a bag of flaming cat shit on their porch.
And it turns out they used to be CUNA Mutual. I should see if I still know people there (although it's been 15 years since I lived in Madison).
