Also, Rocco Spindler is looking pretty foolish. I love it when ND loses, the only time in recent memory where I have rooted for them was against OSU and that was tough to do.
October 8th, 2023 at 3:58 AM ^
ND's looking foolish.
Spindler's been a good player for them. Sucks he's there for the demise.

Notre Dame
returning to glory since 1991

You can't spell fraud without Steve The Fraud Sarkisian.

Good roster. Average coaching
October 7th, 2023 at 11:05 PM ^
Freeman would have been better off staying in Cincinnati and taking over there after Fickel left for his promotion. Not that I blame him for taking the ND and the pay day that goes with it, but maybe he wasn't ready for that step up.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:09 PM ^
Seems a bit like Brady Hoke. Pretty good coach overall but not ready or “there yet” to be able to be successful at a big time job
October 7th, 2023 at 11:49 PM ^
Someone on the Edge of the Internet called him GQ Hoke after the OSU game and I laughed so hard.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:14 PM ^
Whenever they show his face tv he looks like he’s flirting with the interviewer or about to cry.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:35 PM ^
Freeman had been the DC at ND for a year before he was hired as the head coach after Kelly left. Are you saying he should have passed on the being the DC at ND and stayed in that role at Cincinnati?
October 8th, 2023 at 8:27 AM ^
Notre Dame was foolish to even promote him to HC. Blue Blood programs (including Michigan) should NOT take a chance on a completely unproven coach no matter how much the players like said coach or how "hot" he is.
I'll keep banging this drum as long as people keep lobbying for any of the coaches without head coaching experience (which is all of them IIRC) on UM's staff to take over if/when Harbaugh leaves.
October 8th, 2023 at 8:42 AM ^
The recent counterpoints are obvious, though. Kirby Smart, Dabo, Lincoln Riley. It depends on the coach, and not some hard and fast rule about head coaching experience. Previous head coaching experience, after all, did nothing to help Rodriguez or Hoke be successful.
Also, Lloyd’s obviously a contentious topic given the way his tenure ended (and the lack of a clear successor) but the late 1990s was the best era of Michigan football before the current one.
October 8th, 2023 at 8:44 AM ^
I am with you, but the last two coaches with head coaching experience they hired turned out to be bad. So, there has to be another sauce other than head coaching experience.
October 8th, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
Also, RichRod was an experienced coach. You made up a rule, but the data don't actually fit in it.
October 8th, 2023 at 12:43 PM ^
I mean, Moeller and Carr were pretty good (I know Moeller coached Illinois) There is something to be said for continuity and stability. Having those massive overhaul years of roster turnover and systemic changes can be a major gamble for a program unless your current product is already broken.
My hope is that we have at least one of the “head coach prospect” assistants stay with Jim for long haul like Venebles did with Dabo, Carr with Bo, etc…that way the transition is smooth as can be on all fronts, and preferably Jim sticks around in some capacity whenever he retires like Bo did.
Honestly, eventually having Jay Harbaugh be the head coach one day almost sounds like the most ideal situation.
October 8th, 2023 at 10:17 AM ^
ND has made some bad hires, so Freeman isn't unique (Gerry Faust, Charlie Weis, come to mind). But, there is simply no way that someone with that little experience should be handed the keys to ND. When has that ever worked out? The only thing close I can think of is Lincoln Riley, whom I have very little respect for, and where we seeing the results of a being a HC too young, before you learn to be a complete coach, and therefore your career results in you reinforcing your own bad habits. Lane Kiffin was a flop that young.
October 8th, 2023 at 12:52 PM ^
I also agree with this take, but not because he was inexperienced as a head coach, but because he was only 1 year into his tenure at Notre Dame, and he had no prior connections to the program.
Lots of guys can come in and seem super great for a year, but have they showed any kind of longevity on the programs staff?
Almost reminds me of a company making a splash hire in middle-management, and then suddenly he’s your boss shortly after even if you’ve been around the program for a long time, because the higher ups prefer him/her for some reason, then everyone under that person kind of falls apart as far as the company is concerned.
Could explain partially why Mike Elston ended up here as he had a looong tenure and great success at Notre Dame (I know he played at UM), but go no look as an interim head coach.
October 8th, 2023 at 1:02 PM ^
The contract with Weis was so bad I wouldn't be surprised if ND was STILL paying him not to coach there.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:03 PM ^
Field Goal Jesus? Safety Jesus??
October 7th, 2023 at 11:33 PM ^
Maybe "I can't believe they're playing like THIS, in my name" Jesus...

Throwing up his hands in frustration Jesus.

Jimbo Fisher also does very little with a LOT of talent.
Oh, and to hell with Notre Dame!
October 7th, 2023 at 11:05 PM ^
ND still playing with 10 players
October 7th, 2023 at 11:39 PM ^
After the beatdown, someone should check up on Lou Holtz, maybe Ryan "Just for Men" Day will volunteer.
October 8th, 2023 at 11:59 AM ^
My dear children, I love you and would never leave you. Those times where there were only 10 men on the field, I was at free safety.
October 8th, 2023 at 1:55 PM ^
A thumbs up just isn't enough. This was spectacular.
October 8th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
+1 underrated
October 7th, 2023 at 11:06 PM ^
Love it! Fuck Notre Dame. They should have lost last week to Duke. Thank you, Louisville.
October 8th, 2023 at 12:14 AM ^
I went on a little walk just now and people are playing that 50 cent song from 2003 here in the burbs of Louisville. They're loving it.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:08 PM ^
Indeed!! ND is a fraud. On one hand, it diminishes OSU win at ND a few weeks ago as ND can't count to 11.
Look for USC to to give the Golden Domers a 3rd loss next weekend.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:25 PM ^
Check in on USC right now
October 7th, 2023 at 11:33 PM ^
USC is apparently overlooking Arizona tonight. The Wildcats are shutting out the Trojans 17-0 early in the second quarter before a stunned Coliseum crowd in Los Angeles where the Dodgers are also getting shellacked by another Arizona team, the Diamondbacks, by a score of 9-0 midway through the contest.
October 8th, 2023 at 11:45 AM ^
I'll keep saying it 5 times a week- USC defense is still trash.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:09 PM ^
Godforsaken Notre Dame, I don't know about that 😂😂😂
October 7th, 2023 at 11:09 PM ^
When they LET osu win... That was all there was to that team.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:12 PM ^
Notre Dame has really good talent. The problem - Freeman has NO business being the HC at a major football power. Some of his decisions are beyond stupidity.
October 8th, 2023 at 8:58 AM ^
Not to mention the fact that his team seems prone to mental errors and stupid mistakes. They turned the ball over five times (!) against Louisville.
October 8th, 2023 at 11:47 AM ^
I can't believe how bad ND QB is. Thats the best they could do while recruiting top 10 classes?
On the other hand, the guy has the hair and beard of drug lord.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:19 PM ^
That's worth a chicken dance.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:21 PM ^
I wish ND would have beaten OSU and then lose like this. Their D had trouble against runs
October 7th, 2023 at 11:24 PM ^
Considering they're playing actual competition this year and we've...not done that. Maybe we should lay off.
Nah fuck that. To hell with Norte Dam.
October 8th, 2023 at 3:08 AM ^
Intent, fine.
Work on your delivery.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:32 PM ^
This is 2012 Hoke. Excellent talent but 8-5 results.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:40 PM ^
Gotta defend Hoke here. In 2012, we had to face teams that finished #1, #2 and #4 in the final polls. That’s not easy for any coach.
October 8th, 2023 at 12:17 AM ^
Did 2012 have excellent talent? Really?
October 8th, 2023 at 8:40 AM ^
Yes. That team was never going to win a national championship given how dominant Alabama was that year, but had the talent to play with everyone else on its schedule. They should have gone maybe 10-3, not 8-5.
Even despite some coaching issues, though, I still think that team would have won its division had Denard not gotten injured. 2013 is when the Hoke program really hit the skids.
October 7th, 2023 at 11:33 PM ^
We should take this opportunity to recognize the win that the Tuffy Tuff McTuffsters squeaked out by 2 seconds and 2 inches against a team that just got splanked by the 4th best team in the 4th best P4 conference.
