Brian I am Ready to Stream MGoBlog
Brian,
Trying to read the posts on MgoBlog with the current Ad's blocking the entire screen is too much. I would rather pay a monthly fee then endure navigating around the screen blocking full page advertising.
I surrender - that breakfast I bought you and your wife for 15 years of free content is not enough.

Awkward.... I believe Brian is divorced

And it's basically OP's fault.

You could use an ad blocker.
Or use the Brave Browser that has a built in ad blocker.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:15 PM ^
Brave browser... Stunning

In Chrome, this combination of extensions is the magic bullet for killing ads, auto-playing videos and pop-ups:
AdBlock, AutoplayStopper and Disable HTML5 Autoplay. Bingo.

AdLock, free and works as well. v. 2.1.4.4

ublock origin is the best blocker. 100x better than Adblock.
September 1st, 2023 at 2:06 PM ^
Overtaking ass is and will always be an issue.
September 1st, 2023 at 2:09 PM ^
Firefox with uBlock Origin nukes everything.
September 1st, 2023 at 11:52 AM ^
Why would you both A.) Pay a monthly fee; and B.) Then endure navigating around the screen blocking full page advertising?
Also, which Ad's (Warde?) are blocking the entire screen? Is that a fat joke?

Tru-Stage Financial - BRUTAL-Full Page and I do have an Ad Blocker. Locks up my computer.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:01 PM ^
I asked about this in the Mod Sticky and the only solution appears to be hitting refresh when it happens. And it happens a lot. I even had it happen with a Honda ad a couple of times and other times the ad at the bottom of the page just expands to be half the screen.
I know they're a sponsor and maybe this isn't their issue, but HUEL not being able to fix this over the last 5 years is not a ringing endorsement. Unless this is a monetary choice by Mgo to not fix the Google Ad issues because of cost. I know Seth talked about it once before and how glitchy it's been with Google Ads, but there is no other site I go to that has this funky ad layout and this many ad issues.

uBlock Origin works like a charm.
September 1st, 2023 at 2:48 PM ^
fully updated version of your browser + AdBlockerPlus should equal zero problems.
i still get banner ads at the bottom of the page on an older machine with an old version of firefox, but with the updated firefox and ABP, this page runs smooth as can be, and ad-free for me.
best of luck.

I see you.
Some of us do still get grammar.
September 1st, 2023 at 1:05 PM ^
I usually scroll by, but if there are multiple within a 1-2 simple sentence/statement, I can be that guy...
Perhaps I'm just ornery that it's the height of tax season, and taking out my frustrations of working 60+ hour weeks/25+ hours this holiday weekend by being the grammar police. There should be better ways of decompressing.
I think I'm going to take a lunch break for once and go buy some ribeyes, on sale at Kroger. That on the grill, along with a 6-pack and pulling for the Chips against MeLLLLLLL-O-Rail should get me in better spirits tonight. /end self-reflection

Dude get an ad blocker. I haven't seen an ad since 1977
September 1st, 2023 at 12:02 PM ^
Ublock origin extension
September 1st, 2023 at 12:03 PM ^
I use uBlock and the ads are gone, but I also partake in a monthly beveled guilt so I feel less-bad about it all.
The ads on the site are pretty intrusive but also...that's sort of the deal with free content. I'm all for a Patreon-esque system where you can pay to support the site and not see ads but not seeing most ads isn't particularly tough if you dig around a bit.
September 1st, 2023 at 2:32 PM ^
Yeah I just do the same with uBlock and buy some tshirts and HTTV. Many ways to contribute.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:16 PM ^
mgocock???
No, probably not.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
I use Chrome and AdBlock Plus at work and home. They work wonderfully. Get those.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:25 PM ^
I hate ads as much as Darker Blue hates Spectrum and Disney. On iPhone (perhaps Android too) - NextDNS. Never see ads on anything. On the computer, Chrome with AdBlock. I can choose which sites to allow ads on AdBlock, but this site's ads are an issue.

how the fuck do people still function WITHOUT ad blockers?
it really bottles the mind
September 1st, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
Mind-bottling. It should be a moo point by now.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:39 PM ^
My mind is boggled by bottling.

My flabber is gasted.
September 1st, 2023 at 1:02 PM ^
It's MOOPS
September 1st, 2023 at 12:39 PM ^
To be fair, some of us are on work computers at the moment and cannot install them.
September 1st, 2023 at 3:14 PM ^
For all intensive porpoises, an ad blocker will make this problem vanish...
September 1st, 2023 at 12:36 PM ^
Okay fine. I'll start working on something for this.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:55 PM ^
I like your helmet sticker, Seth. How many times do I need to beat OSU in Columbus to get one of those?
September 1st, 2023 at 6:23 PM ^
Let's say this: The fix for the ad problem is related to the new doodad next to my name.
September 2nd, 2023 at 6:00 AM ^
So, we earn helmet stickers through beveled guilt donations or similar?
September 1st, 2023 at 12:59 PM ^
Offer is still on the table to let you sell the (Ad free) app. I don't need any share of the proceeds, its useful for my day job
September 1st, 2023 at 4:07 PM ^
Loading the site on my chrome IOS browser somehow takes forever now. Safari is much faster. The app doesn't function the way I'd like it to. Would GLADLY pay for an app that just lets me navigate the board more easily and quickly. I visit this site more than anything else and the slowdowns are causing me to not review as much.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:37 PM ^
i was astounded by the ad blocking the entire page, then going away, then coming back like 20 seconds later. in 50 years our eye balls are going to be unusable for 30 seconds when the corporations beam the commercial directly into our retinas.
September 1st, 2023 at 12:40 PM ^
I'd be interested to know what the ad revenue is per user-
Mgoblog may do better being a content creator on X and getting paid for ads that appear in your posts.
September 1st, 2023 at 1:01 PM ^
Uhhh my dude, I don't think you really get what "streaming" means....
also (until a premium ad-free version of mgoblog exists), those of you using ad blockers on this site are cutting off Brian and co.'s primary stream of revenue, so if you really appreciate what they provide for free, maybe consider allowing this site as an exception to your ad blocker, or contribute another way if/how your means allow...
September 1st, 2023 at 3:14 PM ^
This is why I just deal with the ads. It sucks, but it's revenue for the site.
September 1st, 2023 at 1:23 PM ^
There are some things we have to deal with in order to get free content and allow the site owners/operators to make it worth while to put out free content.
I know it is frustrating
September 1st, 2023 at 1:54 PM ^
Ugh, this is what's annoying. Every time someone makes some meta comments about the site, there inevitably is someone else who chides them for demanding all the bells and whistles, for free.
That's not what people are asking for.
Many of us would gladly pay a subscription fee if it meant a higher-performing site. There have also been multiple suggestions for Kickstarters to help fund site upgrades. We're not asking for MGoBlog to lose money. We want the site to live long and prosper. We'd just like it to not be overwhelmed by ads and have a message board from 2008.
September 1st, 2023 at 3:02 PM ^
Not being able to read the content on the site seems like a real business problem, not just a frustration.
September 1st, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
this seems more like a subscription model idea and not a stream - unless you want to inject mgoblog into your veins
September 1st, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
MGoMainlining. Cool.

"I would rather pay a monthly fee than learn how to use a chrome extension"
September 1st, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
This^^^. I have the Chrome extension, but I shut it off because I do not want to deprive the blog of revenue. I believe in paying for good content with $$$ rather than viewing ads for Russian brides (yes, I know those are long gone).
I asked Seth about a subscription option several months (years?) ago and he said "we're working on it."
Please please please let me pay a subscription rather than endure these ads!
