5* DL Justin Scott Commits to OSU
Messed that one up, won't let me edit.
Apparently Michigan was the leader going into the OSU visit...
$$$?
If it's true we were the leaders I could see him flipping down the line. Can see ND, PSU, and a well-coached Wisconsin making it interesting for them. Oh, and THE DON will run all over them again. Signing day is what...February? Early in late December?
2 weeks ago everyone on here was talking about how we are killing it on the recruiting trail and all of a sudden we suck at recruiting. It seems to be a common theme here.
A conflagration of Concern Trolls.
Welcome to the Michigan fanbase. Oh, and if you dare say anything questionable about UM, you're automatically tagged as a MSU or OSU follower. Just the way it is and always will be
That hit the nail on the head.
Our fan base has become so soft when it comes to anything negative said about Michigan. It’s only supposed to be rainbows and lollipops.
Back in the 70’s 80’s 90’s fans called it like they saw it. Todays young fans can’t handle negativism without running for play doh and a coloring book.
When we’re rocking and rolling on the recruiting trail all that talk is so great. All the talk coming out of the last big recruiting weekend was so positive and now that it’s flipped into a lot of negative results God forbid if you say anything about it. Truth is Michigan is spinning its wheels right now especially at the CB position.
We don't suck at recruiting but our recruiting has not been at the same level, year after year, as the Buckeyes. Not even close. We've won two in a row and have a chance to win three but if you want this to continue long term and have a serious shot at winning the NC, we will need to have top five talent year after year. On the really big stage, the NC games, we shit the bed. Twice.
Agree. I kind of put OSU and Alabama in the same boat going into this year - both have played second fiddle over the last 2 years to Michigan and Georgia but will be very serious NC contenders this year and it goes right back to what you brought up - consistent top 3 or 4 recruiting over the last few years. Neither are going anywhere or disappearing. In other words, top 5 recruiting classes will keep you in the national picture every year. The key - as you said - is long term success
He said a difference was the opportunity to get coached by Larry Johnson. That guy has to retire sometime...he's getting up there in age right?
i mean he played for the hornets a long time so
atoning for a bad joke by looking it up -- he's at least 70 and possibly 71
At this point they at least must call OSU/PSU Larry Johnson Grandpapa....
If it’s not him, “a difference” will be their next DL coach. Kids go where they want to go and justify it the way they want to justify it.
Going to be really awkward when our 3 and 4* out preform him 🤷
🙄
That’s a desperate response and pretty silly. You say when like you know it’s gonna happen.
I hope our DL develops well enough over the next couple of years where this decision doesn’t hurt that much.
Two years in a row playing in the championship series and we can’t get a freaking 5* in this years class. I think we focus too much on the boat load of edge rushers we offered.
Maybe we’ll get one with Bennett but that still stinks considering what we have accomplished the past 2 seasons.
Something wrong in A2 at the moment.
We have a very strong class committed. Top 5 in the nation. We lose out on a 5 star D Lineman to OSU, a rival that has been, and will always be, a recruiting powerhouse. Whatever the circumstances around losing this particular recruit we can not win them all. But evidently to some losing any recruit means there is “something wrong in Ann Arbor.”
Nonsense.
expectations. some falsely expect michigan to reach consistent top 5 on par with or near bama/uga/osu. that will not happen - mostly bc admin/alums will never be willing to do what it takes to reach that level, year in year out. also the school has significant disadvantages of michigan's weather, its football playing population, etc.
michigan will continue to land some great players, sign solid overall classes and field competitive teams. they will not sign classes comparable to osu - they never have, at least not in modern game other than 1-2 yr outlier stretches.
by all means call out the program for failures like not hitting the ground running re NIL. or call them out if they slip and teams like psu, msu, etc pass them other than random game here or there. michigan should be recruiting at top 10-15 level and translating that to top 15 finishes in the polls - with occasional stretches like now where teams put it all together to make playoff. fans with expectations beyond that likely in for disappointment
I mostly agree with that. I don't think expectations of competing for Top 10 classes is unrealistic at all. 10-15 might be setting the bar low but I agree that assuming a top 5 class semi-consistently is not realistic.
We’re not balanced. Offensively we look great but defensively were pretty bare. We could desperately use some highly ranked corners, more linebackers, and defensive linemen. Not that we don’t have a great class but I don’t think it’s best to look at overall ranking but rather the talent we have coming in at each position. When you do that you see very obvious holes.
The only thing we aren’t doing is giving NIL money up front. Hence why Miami took the lead on Justin Scott months ago…why Osu got his commitment. Not that would be the only reason but a huge high on Michigan’s visit and commits the next weekend..
NIL will have to change somewhat to allow deals to at least be signed early and the athlete be able to start making money. That would be the only thing keeping several 5*’s and other high 4*’s out that want to come to Michigan.
Also missed is Michigan isn’t for everyone. And Michigan will not just put any athlete into the academic program of choice, they have to be accepted. Which also is a major issue if a recruit wants into an engineering program or business program other schools will put them right in and Michigan will not. I’ve met ND player from years ago that was the reason he went to nd academically football was even but at Michigan He was told he would have to apply into his program of choice. ND, sign the National Letter of Intent, you’re in. That was under Holtz. I’ve met several that played for Michigan or families that their kid went to Michigan and all were impressed the entire time, save their kid wasn’t just placed in the program of choice like other schools offered.
“Something wrong in A2 at the moment“ is a wild statement. You should consider changing your name to Michigan Clueless.
username most definitely does not check out.
following the phrase
"what we have accomplished the past 2 seasons"
with
"something wrong in A2 at the moment"
is some galaxy-level lunacy. take a breath and step away from the computer. sheesh.
The point is that we develop 3 and 4 star recruited D-linemen (arguably the best in the country at doing so) and to the extent that many out perform 5 star recruits.
If you are actually a Michigan fan rather than an OSU troll, I truly feel sorry for anyone like you who can't enjoy a time like this when Michigan is at its best it has been in most of our lifetimes. OSU fans sound just like we did in the early 2000s and beyond (if it wasn't for just FIVE PLAYS we would have won! 3-15!) And you sound just like they do.
Username checks out/doesn’t check out?
One of my favorite movies is The Ten Commandments. It's got it all: a sword and sandal biblical epic with camp, cheese, overacting and great effects for its time.
After seeing the plagues on Egypt, the wall of fire stopping Ramses and parting the Red Sea, Moses is gone for 5 minutes and Edward G. Robinson starts with the "Where's your Moses now?!" shit.
Had to be Michigan fans.
A good portion of the board bear me to: username doesn't check out, so I'll suggest, as a friend, that you: lighten up, Francis. It'll do you good.
Michigan Concern Troll more like it. You can do better than this, and most of us believe in you.
People keep making this statement like we aren’t 3-15 and didn’t get dunked on by Georgia in the playoffs. Recruiting matters, our best players are almost exclusively our top 100 recruits.
Sainristil, Rod Moore, Paige, Colson, Barrett, Jenkins, Harrell, Wilson, Loveland, C. Johnson and oh, yeah, Blake Corum would all say you’re wrong.
We can always count on ak to be in the thread "telling it like it is" with something that can usually be disproven by thinking for 3 seconds
Which is three seconds longer than some people are capable of.
But our entire award winning offensive line was made up top 100 recruits, like Trevor Keegan ~175, Zak Zinter ~200, Karsen Barnhart ~300. Some of these guys are in their 5th years. 5 stars will be gone after 3. Remember that DE who was #1 overall? I can't even remember his name but we didn't win much when he was with us.
This panicky b.s. earns a Don slap...
We beat ohio twice in a row now, chill out bro
i honestly had no idea what 3-15 meant.
then again, i'm not a whiny, miserable, awful-to-be-around troll. i also don't spend my time envying a shit program like ohio state, and instead enjoy watching the players that want to be in ann arbor. so i've got that going for me, which is nice.
Maybe. Or maybe he’ll be another Nick Bosa or Chase Young.
I almost always prefer the postform to the preform.
Looking forward to showing him why Sherrone Moore is the best Oline coach in the country for years to come.
And Mike Elston is the current man for D Line.
And this young kid will be going up against our Oline, not our Dline
Thank you for helping him out.
reverential reading: perhaps he was just claiming that Elston is better at development than Johnson?
Wise.
Scott made a dubious claim.
and gbm wolverine had me optimistic lately with Scott. gbm also whiffed on Grimsley and today on Nichols who committed to Kentucky. And Wingdings with an unusual whiff, as he called Scott to Miami. But I guess what matters is signing day.

Missing on Nicholas really sucks. Our CB recruiting is very bad, even if by some miracle we do get Scott. These last 2 classes at DB have been really bad outside of Hill and Oden.
To underscore this, even Hill didn’t play CB in high school albeit being an extremely gifted athlete he’s learning a whole new position. It’s odd that his HS coaches saw him as more of a safety. So even one the best commits at the position has some questions. I am kind of befuddles with Clinkscales recruiting as I had been under the belief he was an ace recruiter. Wonder if something’s u.? I know he is very close to the prospect Brian Robinson and that recruitment has reportedly soured.
Hillman was a four star.
He's a little different than your normal recruit because he was so late almost like a transfer.
I noticed Patterson has a 6.1 rivals rating, and I havent seen a 6.1 forever. Maybe will was but since then I don't remember. And gbm thinks we get him.
