Damani Dent (RS Frosh DB) to the portal
Dang. Many had high hopes that he would be the sleeper of his class.
Best of luck, Damani. Onward.

Dang, that's pretty disappointing. I remember how hype the coaches supposedly were when he committed. I guess we had a glut of guys at safety this year and playing time is at a premium. Maybe this means Zeke Berry is about to break out?
In any case, best of luck, Damani

Have to think this is a result of Berry and Sabb being ahead of him. Not sure what Michigan recruited him for, but you also have Brandyn Hillman for the 23 class who is labeled as a Safety on some recruiting sites.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:32 AM ^
Damn. Hard to believe he never saw the field. You would think they would show it to him at least.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:35 AM ^
That's really insensitive to say. He's vision impaired.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:42 AM ^
That's some Deion level stuff... you have to accomplish so much in the weight room and film room before you're allowed to even see the field
April 27th, 2023 at 10:34 AM ^
I had forgotten that he was injured and didn't even dress until November.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:36 AM ^
Depth taking a hit at S. Eep.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:49 AM ^
Paige and Moore starting
Berry and Saab as RS Fr along with 2 true freshman and a 4* recruit in 24 plus the remaining Green brother as depth - I think we're good
April 27th, 2023 at 10:51 AM ^
There's also Quinten Johnson, who's gotten some spring hype and has already played a fair amount
April 27th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
Also Kolesar
Uh… how do you figure? 6th string safety leaving isn’t putting a Dent (pun intended) in the depth
You could also say our depth doesn't have a dent in it anymore...
April 27th, 2023 at 10:45 AM ^
Nature of the beast - college football 2023.
The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh away.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:48 AM ^
This really puts a Damani in our plans...
Wait.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:55 AM ^
Puns on player names is one of Dent reasons I keep coming back to the MGoBoard
Make like a tree and Dent
April 27th, 2023 at 10:48 AM ^
This is disappointing, but also a very deep position where it looks like guys like Berry and Sabb have asserted themselves more. Was always gonna be a few guys from that 2022 DB class who were gonna transfer out
April 27th, 2023 at 10:52 AM ^
Depth chart starting to sort itself out... If you are jaded about being behind you have a couple options position switch or transfer to clearer depth chart and fill a need. I hate it but it is what it is now... Excited for Berry and Sabb think they have bright futures.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:25 AM ^
How do you know he's "jaded?"
Maybe he just saw the writing on the wall
April 27th, 2023 at 12:00 PM ^
Wait, they didn’t let him see the field, but they allowed him to see the writing on the wall. The things that go on in Schembechler Hall.
April 27th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
Jaded maybe bad word usage... Writing on wall is more likely what I meant...
April 27th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
"If you are jaded about being behind you have a couple options position switch or transfer to clearer depth chart and fill a need."
Or, you could make the decision to stay, battle for playing time, and take advantage of a great educational opportunity.
Is this corny, old-fashioned, and hopelessly out of date with respect to the reality of college football being little more than a semi-pro operation in 2023?
Guilty as charged.
April 27th, 2023 at 12:46 PM ^
Or you can make the decision that is the best for you.
Like there aren’t other great universities that offer a great educational opportunity and playing time.
There could be countless other reasons for the move too so spare me the stay and tough it out stuff. Football is a fickle game with a short window to possibly play.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
That's right. This will now happen annually I suppose, with the current transfer rules. They gotta fix it.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:00 AM ^
Best of luck to Damani.
An off-field issue last summer caused Dent to not be with the team in 2022. When he came back he was wearing #36 on the sideline of the spring game, barely playing, and still reportedly "in the doghouse."
April 27th, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
No not Double-D!
April 27th, 2023 at 11:19 AM ^
Demar Dorsey?
April 27th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
I'll be watching Damani's career with interest. I hope he does well wherever he goes.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:35 AM ^
Does this put a dent in the program?
- I’ll show myself out.
April 27th, 2023 at 12:01 PM ^
Technically, it removes a dent.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:35 AM ^
The handle "FarrellPortal" makes me look forward to the time when THE PORTAL combines with ChatGPT to become fully aware. Then we'll see tweets like this:
so and so has entered ME...[robotic cackling with knowing glee]

April 27th, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
I'm all for the portal, but leaving after one year is pretty ridiculous. Tough it out and try to earn some playing time. Good luck to him
April 27th, 2023 at 11:55 AM ^
or, do whatever you want and think is best for you.
April 27th, 2023 at 12:24 PM ^
2 Safties gone in last few days ,hopefully means Berry and Saab are ballers.I understand when a 3rd/4th year guy leaves if they aren't on the 2 deep but a Freshman? Strange times.Best of luck DD
April 27th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
They are going to their safety schools.
April 27th, 2023 at 12:33 PM ^
When Hillman joined the team Dent started pondering a transfer. I had heard from a friend in the athletic dept - not directly related to the football team that Berry was making great strides and might bump Paige or Moore off some snaps. Also said Dent was actually looking more impressive than Sabb at times.
I guess Dent felt squeezed out. He’s gonna be good.
Lol. Dent’s troubles started long before Hillman committed.
Should come as no surprise. He was a bad fit in the locker room, he had trouble with teammates and even an incident with an OL (not related to football). Best for everyone that he move on.
Could you just not? we realize you are super proud about your alleged insider info but it is amazing how it is only ever to bash guys in or leaving the program and it adds nothing.
Lighten up. Saying a player had trouble with teammates in the locker room is hardly novel. With DD it was widely known. Notice that I purposely didn’t add details so as not to offend. Perhaps you should work on being a little less fragile?
I don't think it is fragile to request that you not bash players and coaches with what is largely unsubstantiated "insider" info. Seth's post stating "rumored off-field issues" covered it. For being widely know, there were a ton of people that (myself included) that never heard about this.
I would say it is a fragile to need to boost your own ego by bashing strangers with your super special insider info. I suppose we will have to agree to disagree.
Give me an example of where I bashed a player.
Most people want reliable information related to the team. After all, this is (largely) a Michigan football message board. Why are you here? You seem to just want attention for being soft.
Takes me back to my college radio days when I'd occasionally slip into my early Sunday morning playlist some utterly unexpected and totally offbeat 45s from the station's vast library of sixties music after I'd randomly pulled some records off the shelves.
Well that sucks. Good luck in the future. I liked him better than Sabb and thought him and Zeke would be our starting safeties for a couple years.
