My little Broncos are going to keep this up until UM FB cries Uncle!
April 25th, 2023 at 10:50 AM ^
I think a game a year against one of the directional schools in part of the out-of-conference schedule is a good thing though the results have tended to go our way.....http://www.winsipedia.com/michigan/vs/western-michigan

Hopefully this is what we have in store for "your little Broncos"...

Now that is just hurtful.
Been a UM FB fan since MSU/UM game 1969 (they lost) when I went sports crazy and finally understood the game and collected the 4 major sports trading cards, etc.
Didn't behave myself (shocker) scholastically and a WMU education it was. Had tickets/attended the WMU/UM Big House postposed 911 game and was along the tunnel 10 rows back wearing UM gear surrounded by Bronco fans and teased endlessly the whole time by my wife. No, I only root for UM even against my alma mater as the lifelong fan pre-dating college attendance. Like Doug Karsch.

I am the exact same story, just a little younger. Grew up hardcore M fan, didn't mind my grades, WMU here we go.

CMU for me, so I’m required to hate you both. 😊
Fire Up Chips!
Grrrrr.....
My roommate played on the football team and even when we had the better team you guys would beat us. That sucked.
You're a Chip?
Have a downvote!

A Bronco alum
I always knew there was something about you I didn't like, but I couldn't place my finger on it. Should've known you were a Bronco.
Downvote returned with extreme prejudice.
Fire Up, Chips!
The Army and then NMU for me, but very similar in grades and fandom.

Where’s Oklahoma? I sincerely hope this series isn’t canceled.
April 25th, 2023 at 10:52 AM ^
These seem to be "schedule updates", so if that series' schedule/location remains unchanged it wouldn't be part of this.
April 25th, 2023 at 10:55 AM ^
Still showing for '25/'26 - though the expansion of the conference may yet wreck that
April 25th, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
I thought part of the reason OU/TX to the SEC was able to happen in 2024 was those series' staying on the schedule and making the broadcast partners happy.
It makes no sense to cancel those games in the expanded playoff era. Win and you're almost guaranteed a CFP spot if you don't fall apart in the conference schedule. Loss, and you have a great "name" loss that you can recover from.
I thought part of the reason OU/TX to the SEC was able to happen in 2024 was those series' staying on the schedule and making the broadcast partners happy.
Yes, but contract achieved. All bets are off. Don't be surprised when campaign promises are not fulfilled.
Isn't the whole point for the networks to make money? Why would they want to cancel huge matchups between Michigan and Oklahoma that will have amazing ratings? Would put my own money on these games happening
April 25th, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
I had no idea the Lobos were going up to Ann Arbor to play a game!!
I wonder if they'll bring Boo along with them?
April 25th, 2023 at 11:06 AM ^
UTEP needs to move to the MWC prior to 2026. It could theoretically happen (say, San Diego State to the Pac-12 and UTEP is a MWC backfill).
That way U-M can extend their kind of bizarre (it's not a criticism, I get it, you find "buy games" where you can) streak of playing MWC opponents to 5 consecutive years.
CSU & Hawaii 2022, UNLV 2023, Fresno State 2024, New Mexico 2025, UTEP (not MWC) 2026.
April 25th, 2023 at 11:09 AM ^
There’s a distinct lack of Hawaii away games. I’d like a 13th regular season game and the vacation that goes along with it.
April 25th, 2023 at 11:14 AM ^
I wish schools still did that. Schools playing at Hawaii has dropped off a lot in the last 15-20 years.
Hawaii is building a new stadium these days --- hopefully it gets finished before 2040 (seriously, the process is a mess). They're playing in a 9000-seat stadium (!!!) in the meantime. So it admittedly makes less sense in the immediate term.
April 25th, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
Not sure if you’re aware of it, but there’s an amazing story of two football teams traveling to Hawaii and getting caught in the Pearl Harbor attacks. This is a really good read if you have the time (on my phone so I can’t type good enough to summarize the story).
Nice story, thanks for sharing. No, I had not heard of that before.
I do recall hearing that Hawaii had never played a game outside of either Hawaii or the Pacific Time Zone until 1948, when they travelled all the way to East Lansing. That's one long trip, especially then. Travel and building a schedule has never been overly easy for them.
April 25th, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
Conference championship games kind of killed playing an 'extra game' against Hawaii at the end of the regular season.
April 25th, 2023 at 11:11 AM ^
Hopefully Arch likes the taste of turf.
April 25th, 2023 at 11:42 AM ^
He looked terrible in their Spring game and writers are suggesting he is third on the depth chart which would be fine if it were 2005, but in today's world of instant gratification, I wonder how long both parties allow Arch to be 3rd string.
April 25th, 2023 at 11:56 AM ^
To be fair pretty sure Peyton was 3rd string as a freshman as well
April 25th, 2023 at 12:10 PM ^
It would be unusual for a true freshman to "outperform" a solid, upperclassman QB - like Ewers, having only been on campus for a couple of months. So, Manning's Spring Game performance doesn't surprise me.
I don't have a horse in the race. But, I do with there were some guidelines the NCAA would establish for official visits - and, associated costs. Texas spent 280K on Manning's official visit to Texas. To me, this is a ridiculous sum of money.
It will be fun to see whether Manning, as a sophomore, is the starting QB for Texas when they visit the Big House.
As others have pointed out - this makes the '24 schedule a bit more interesting.
When will the B1G release the conference schedule for next season?
What the hell did they spend 280k on?
That's an insane and disgusting amount of money to spend recruiting a single player
April 25th, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
Good luck dealing with our 84 degree freezing cold weather, Texas.
Funny that. I was thinking about traveling to Norman for that game, then remembered what it could be like in Oklahoma that time of year.
April 25th, 2023 at 12:02 PM ^
Texas next year (2024) along with USC/UCLA additions? I'm sure we'll get at least one of the two California schools, even if it isn't at home. That should make for an interesting schedule.
Makes this year's schedule a little easier to take knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel.
April 25th, 2023 at 12:13 PM ^
A home game vs Texas might be enticing enough for JJ to return for his senior season
and to be 4-0 vs aOSU.
lol @ "aOSU" and I will be using that going forward!
April 25th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
love that we schedule texas when they're in the midst of finally putting it together. Arch will be in year 2...
April 25th, 2023 at 12:32 PM ^
my dude they've been retooling since Colt McCoy left in 2009
April 25th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
yeah, but.. just feels like it. same with USC... joining just as they seem to have found themselves... now, is it more than caleb williams? time will tell. I think lincoln riley has NFL wrtten all over him and klingsburry came to take his place...
April 25th, 2023 at 12:50 PM ^
It will be an even sweeter victory. Horns down.
April 25th, 2023 at 12:28 PM ^
wmu is good in state mac support. also good with M playing texas and texas el paso. for texans it's gonna feel like getting slapped with double indemnity and then not hitting your drive past the ladies tee. Unless things unravel on us, I'll take Michigan big in all these tilts.
The timing of the Texas and Oklahoma games couldnt have worked out better. With a 12 team playoff it wouldnt break either teams back to lose any of those games.
So in terms of Power 5/Super 2, we are hosting UT and OU in '24 and '26 respectively (when we travel to OSU), and visit them in '25 and '27 (when we're hosting OSU). And we are traveling to Washington in '28, altho I have a feeling we may try to move that to an odd year so we can host a major opponent in '28.
I'm guessing we can say that non-OSU home years will feature MSU in the Big House too. Penn State will likely not be an annual opponent.
This is good.
The flip side is that we only have 6 home games in 2025 and 2027, and 8 home games in 2024 and 2026. Given how many non-con series (Arkansas, VT, UCLA) we've ostensibly cancelled to maintain a 7-game home schedule, it's kind of incredible that this still keeps getting screwed up. Idk if Dave Brandon, Warde, the Big Ten, or some combo of the three is to blame, but I hope they schedule more carefully going forward.
Playing WMU semi-frequently is good but would be nice to get Central and Eastern back on the schedule also.
