Who is the next RB after Edwards?
Apologies in advance since I am not following recruiting closely, but after Corum (assuming he is going pro) and Donovan Edwards, is Michigan in on any similar super star RBs for 23/24 classes? The way Michigan runs its offense, looks to me we need dynamic RB to make it all work. Thoughts/comments appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe Cole Cabana?

McDuffie, but durable?
December 7th, 2022 at 1:22 AM ^
Good ole Stan McDuffie. Hurdlin' fools before it was a "thing". That year he won the Heisman for us was amazing!
December 7th, 2022 at 3:01 AM ^
Sam was good too. At bobsledding mainly. Wasn't quite durable enough for B1G running back though.
December 7th, 2022 at 8:24 AM ^
LOL!! A little too much eggnog last night, JMo, you're slurring your words. You said Stan when you meant Sam!!

Anyways, I hope you get this, man, hit me back
Just to chat, truly yours, your biggest fan
This is Stan

Searches database for white runningback at UM. Finds McDuffie. Insert comparison. LOL
I guess Rob Lytle was before your time.
December 7th, 2022 at 8:23 AM ^
Blake Corum is half white. Only in America does one black parent and one white parent make you black rather than white or mixed-race, etc.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:50 AM ^
Which half?
December 7th, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
The slower one.
December 7th, 2022 at 11:28 AM ^
The heady, scrappy, high motor, brings-his-lunchbox, blue collar, gritty, full of intangibles half
December 7th, 2022 at 10:03 AM ^
Well, I guess that's progress. In the Jim Crow South, having one black great-grandparent made you Black. You were called an Octaroon and could not legally marry a Caucasian. Can't make this shit up.
December 7th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
Boggles my mind. In fact, it wasn't until 2000 that Alabama formally approved interracial marriage and it was by a vote of 60% to 40% even though it had been legalized at the federal level in 1967 through a Supreme Court decision. Roughly half of the 73% white population in Alabama voted against it.
December 7th, 2022 at 11:09 AM ^
That's by design.
December 7th, 2022 at 11:43 AM ^
The mildly amusing part, and I guess the slightly unappreciated part of my last night joke, was if you "search the database" you're not going to get a "McDuffie" for anything.
Sam McGuffie on the other hand... :)
December 7th, 2022 at 7:40 AM ^
McGuffie but moves to slot pretty immediately instead of after transferring to Baylor.
December 7th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
Didn't he transfer to Rice? I mean, not the small grain food but the university in Texas. I've never heard of someone transferring to rice. Maybe from pasta.
December 7th, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
Al Bundy? I mean 4 touchdowns in a single game at Polk High!

no one's explained to me how he's going to balance his other job in AEW with playing football

Cole Cabana is looking exceptional as a senior in high school. We’ll see…
December 6th, 2022 at 10:46 PM ^
We have a lot of potential on the roster. Cabana has potential, he will need to bulk up and get used to big ten players hitting him, but great upside. I imagine we will see a lot of stokes next season, and maybe mullings turns out to be a stud.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:15 AM ^
I like the runs I saw from Mullings. Give me more of that.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:24 PM ^
B.J. Askew but more linebacker-y
December 6th, 2022 at 10:46 PM ^
Cole Cabana is coming in higher rated than Corum was and just slightly below Edwards. There’s a chance Corum actually returns next season. I’d be all for that and so would Edwards. Michigan would lose both after next season though. So you’d have a junior year Stokes and a sophomore year Cabana.
There’s a solid chance one of the other running backs transfer next year for playing time. So Michigan would probably need to either sign a highly rate 2024 guy or bring someone in from the portal.

MJ14, I'd like to reach out to you. If you wish, srkass at fifcc dot org

Stephen, I sent you an email from my personal email! Thanks
December 6th, 2022 at 11:12 PM ^
nice summary. thanks for the breakdown.
December 7th, 2022 at 4:33 AM ^
There’s a chance Corum actually returns next season.
I'd be overjoyed if this happened, but I can't imagine it will. When you consider the short shelf-life of an NFL running back, plus the fact that "What else has he got to prove?", I think he's gone.
And I would absolutely love to be wrong.
December 7th, 2022 at 6:24 AM ^
Corum's shelf-life in the NFL will be the same whether the clock starts ticking in 2023 or 2024. The risk is potential injury before be gets to NFL.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:20 AM ^
It’s all about that second contract
December 7th, 2022 at 7:36 AM ^
He’s been dipping his toes in NIL land and with a little higher profile, maybe he could turn that into a few good deals to grease the skids and stay a little longer. Kid just turns around and spends all his money on turkeys and milk anyway, so doesn’t seem like he’s real dollar driven.
Draft projections weren’t super high even before his injury, I’d say he’s as good a candidate to stay as leave.
Pure speculation on my part though; he may already be as good as gone. 🤷♂️
December 7th, 2022 at 7:54 AM ^
I've been a bit surprised that Corum hasn't seemed to get much run as a potential NFL RB. Maybe it's because he has two years of eligibility left (thank you, Covid), maybe it's because of his size, but I've not seen him projected anywhere higher than 2nd round.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:33 AM ^
- Positional value. Running backs do not go consistently high in the draft anymore
- Injury concerns. Corum hasn't made it through two seasons healthy as a featured back
- Lack of evidence to suggest he would be a good pass catcher at the NFL level
Keep in mind, points 1 & 3 were held against Jonathan Taylor (whom I think was a small step better than Corum in college) and that knocked him down to 41 overall. Assuming Corum performs like I think he will at the combine the 3rd round seems about right to me.
For those saying he should come back: No way. As much I would welcome that, Corum has hit his talent level / performance ceiling at the college level and his draft stock won't get any higher so it is time to go.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:51 AM ^
As great as he is as a Wolverine, he has to cash in while he can. Taking more tread off in college won't help.
We should just be happy that we got him for the time we had and wish him all success!
December 7th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
Taylor also runs a 4.38-faster than Saquon. Don't think Blake will test quite that well. His draft ceiling is likely late 2nd round. IMHO his size or lack thereof is a plus.
December 7th, 2022 at 8:31 AM ^
He wants to buy the 'farm' his parents managed, which is reason enough for money. I mean, that wasn't just some farm - it was Jack Kent Cook's horse estate in the middle of Virginia horse estate country. You remember Jack Kent Cook? The billionaire owner of the Redskins back when they actually won stuff with the Hogs and John Riggins. When he died, he didn't leave the team to his kids (what an ASSHOLE), and Dan Snyder won the bidding war.
That 'farm' is no ordinary corn and soybean operation...
December 7th, 2022 at 10:17 AM ^
maybe the kids were assholes
December 7th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
That's exactly what my MGoMother would say.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:18 AM ^
Corum has gotten banged up the past two seasons, so I'm not sure how high he expects to be drafted. I believe its already been mentioned that he could make more at Michigan next season than he would on an NFL team? Not sure how accurate that is, but if thats the case it would be huge to keep him another year.
December 7th, 2022 at 8:21 AM ^
Stop looking at rankings and PLEASE watch the film yourself. Anyone who saw clips of Corum in high school would realize he was criminally underrated. And Cabana is rated too high. He has straight line speed - period. Corum had agility, vision and flashed enough power/toughness and speed to make it obvious he would be a force and one of the better RB's in his class.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:17 AM ^
Same with Haskins, you could tell he had IT in his HS film. Just ask Craig Ross.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:09 AM ^
We'd all welcome Corum back with open arms if he returned, but he needs to go. He can really only hurt his stock by coming back, and I don't think there's much room for it to get any higher than it is right now.
NFL running backs have a short shelf life, and if he comes back to Michigan that's one more year of tread he's putting on the tires. Go make some real money, Corum. You've earned it.

I have high hopes for CJ Stokes. He’s shown flashes. He will be a stud when he gets a better feel and the vision and patience that comes with that feel.
Obviously he has to hold on to the ball. But the talent is there
December 6th, 2022 at 11:02 PM ^
CJ is a true frosh. He is going to be fine or better than fine.
We need to hit on Cole or Hall whoever else we bring in next year.
Any more talk on Darius Taylor the Minnesota commit from Walled Lake?
I would throw the kitchen sink at 5* Rueben Owens who just lost his Louisville coach to Cincinnati. Seems like we could offer immediate playing time behind the best OL in college football
December 7th, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
The Taylor talk is dead. I imagine they decided to not take 3 rbs (unless the last guy is like elite elite)
I wish we could get Owens or some elite running back. You'd think Michigan would be an attractive spot for a running back given how much they revolve the offense around them.
Hopefully Cabana works out. He's a bit small
December 7th, 2022 at 6:32 AM ^
Darius Taylor's recruiter at Minnesota is Greg Harbaugh (pronounced HAR-bo)
