Michigan offer Costal Carolina Edge Josaiah Stewart
December 6th, 2022 at 10:05 PM ^
True freshman from the '21 class. 3star out of the same high school in Massachusetts as Sainristil.
A nice write up from Maize and Brew on him.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:19 PM ^
According to that article he played two years at Coastal Carolina.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:29 PM ^
you're correct. I missed this between the pic and ad.
December 7th, 2022 at 8:00 AM ^
Split M, do not want.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
Went to HS with Mike Sainristil
December 7th, 2022 at 8:02 AM ^
It's Mikey now.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:08 AM ^
With the way he played this season, I think it's MISTER Sainristil, sir.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:15 AM ^
Only to his opponents
December 6th, 2022 at 10:10 PM ^
Was the pre-season Sun Belt DPOY, has 16 career sacks, and went to the same HS as Mike Sainristil
December 6th, 2022 at 10:11 PM ^
If the coaches like him, that's good enough for me. Keep the Massachusetts → AA pipeline going.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:15 PM ^
Ummm… oh hell yeah!!!!
*ducks*
December 6th, 2022 at 10:36 PM ^
Well played
December 7th, 2022 at 10:04 AM ^
I literally spit coffee! Winner....
December 6th, 2022 at 10:17 PM ^
He was preseason Sunbelt defensive player of the year, along with several similar preseason awards. But went from 12.5 sacks in 2021 to 3.5 this season. Didnt see anything explaing the dropoff in production. But the guy is obviously very talented and would get better coaching at Michigan
December 6th, 2022 at 11:59 PM ^
No idea, was wondering this myself. Only things I can think of are scheme change or he got a bunch of doubles this year, etc.
December 7th, 2022 at 1:08 AM ^
For what its worth, PFF rates him higher in 2022 than they did in 2021. Im guessing a lot of double/scheme as well. His grades on PFF are elite
December 6th, 2022 at 10:38 PM ^
Sounds like OSU is getting in the mix for the Virginia CB transfer
December 7th, 2022 at 7:58 AM ^
Rumors down here in Columbus via radio and analysts are that they’re in the drivers seat for the CB
December 6th, 2022 at 10:55 PM ^
I'm skeptical the academics work out if he's 2 years in at a non-peer institution...
December 6th, 2022 at 11:28 PM ^
This is probably true but why even offer then…
December 6th, 2022 at 11:30 PM ^
No-one gives a shit anymore. The university better realizes this and quickly.
December 7th, 2022 at 7:49 AM ^
Amazing

2 years is actually pretty easy.
The big hurdle is the "60 credits from Michigan for a degree" thing.
That means folks coming in with more than 60 (~120 to graduate), lose credits and fall behind... but generally only players in their 3rd year or later will have significantly more than 60 credits.
Players with less than 60 credits and grad "transfers" (they aren't transfers from an academic perspective, just new grad students) aren't an issue.
Players with MORE than 60 credits are a problem - because if they transfer in they lose credits and fall behind, and if they lose too many they run afoul of the 40/60/80 rule.

I don't fully agree, but that is the major issue. He still will need to transfer enough credits to be a sophomore. Hopefully enough classes translate or he's able/willing to make up the difference.

I did a little more digging and I am curious if there is a loophole here. The only requirement is to be done with 40% of the degree by the end of the second year (roughly 48 credits). If we are able to interpret "end of the second year" as August 2023, he is able to transfer schools (maybe even in time to start at Michigan in January) and would have a fair bit of time to catch up. He'd even still be eligible up until August 2023, and would have to catch up to be eligible for the 2023 season. He'd have the winter, spring, and summer terms to get up to 48 credits. 32 credits in that timeframe seems possible, meaning he'd only have to transfer 16 (I think this is close to what Shea Patterson did, who was in a similar point in his academic career). Of course, this is when we run into whether or not it's easier to get there at Michigan or at another school.

Kind of like a Mike Danna type player which I would be great for us having a Mike Danna on this years team would be huge right now.
December 7th, 2022 at 6:26 AM ^
More like a Josh Uche type player at 6-2 230.

OK Boomer

LOL, not near that old but it's a online game name from back in the Metal Gear Solid Snake days. Close to my last name and has stuck since.

PFF rates this guy very high, #79 DE in CFB and Elite pass rushing skills. This would be a very big get. He would make a massive impact and could likely be the star of the defense and one of the best DE's in CFB next season. He has 12.5 sacks a year ago. No way to state how major of a get Josaiah Stewart would be.
December 7th, 2022 at 3:21 AM ^
That’s a lot of enthusiasm for the #79 DE. Hope you’re right though.
December 7th, 2022 at 7:22 AM ^
“Could likely be the star of the defense”? Johnson and Sainistril and Graham and a couple other guys question your certainty on this point.
December 7th, 2022 at 8:02 AM ^
Well lets make it a competition...
December 8th, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
Most on the board prefer 69 over 79 but we cant be picky at this position due to the losses.
Am I doing it right?
December 7th, 2022 at 8:01 AM ^
He would be a nice pickup for depth and experience.
Not a huge star watcher here with recruiting, but look at what our 5 stars are doing for the team right now.
December 7th, 2022 at 8:21 AM ^
He's from Massachusetts, did anyone call Don Brown and ask why he was allowed to get away?
December 7th, 2022 at 9:28 AM ^
Looks like a solid edge guy but I do wonder if he'd be able to break in against some of the guys UM is returning. Okie is back, McGregor and Moore showed flashes, etc. Probably a rotation player and that would be nice for the defense.
December 7th, 2022 at 9:42 AM ^
Makes one wonder if this is how Jim got Mikey to stay another year, or if it helped. If so, a great move.
December 8th, 2022 at 12:13 AM ^
Love it
Based on UM academics admission he is a HS Sophomore so I hope it works out.
