USC you had one job

I'm going to focus on Purdue and then I will deal with this shit. Eventually I will get over it as long as UGA wipes them out in the semis or if we beat them again. Otherwise, it was a fun week, what can I say.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
Exactly, Beat Purdue first
Then win the semi
If bucknuts beat GA then beat them in the final. All B10 final is a good thing.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
Not really. We need to get a leg up in recruiting vs OSU. Them in the championship doesn't help that, even if we win. I do not like this stupid playoff format, at all.
December 3rd, 2022 at 6:34 AM ^
The next game is the game to focus on. Go Blue!
December 3rd, 2022 at 7:24 AM ^
Let's make it 13-0! Go Blue!
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:52 PM ^
Fuck Ohio. Committee ranked USC higher before big12cg, shouldn’t change. OSU won nothing this year.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:56 PM ^
LOL!!! That narrative holds water with a close loss and no injuries. USC had their shit force fed to them and injured their Heisman winning QB and lost the starting OC to the meat wagon. They won't sniff they playoffs. They'll be lucky to stay in the Top 10 after this display of ugly.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:07 AM ^
So if USC had their own shit force-fed to them and OSU had their own shit force-fed to them (thanks for this expression BTW, I'm loving it), then come on down 'Bama? Is that a possibility?
December 3rd, 2022 at 8:31 AM ^
Someone on twitter had the brilliant suggestion to make bama and osu suit up next weekend and play for a spot in the playoff. I like it lol.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:30 AM ^
While I won’t disagree with your crude assessment of their performance, the system is broken. I could argue that if USC was sitting home like the buckeyes, Caleb Williams wouldn’t be getting injured. Teams are being punished for playing an extra game. Meanwhile OSU is sitting at home, resting their players, backing into the playoffs. Either lock the rankings after the last regular season game or get rid of the conference championship game. Absolutely nothing good comes to a team who has to play their conference championship if they are already top 4.
December 3rd, 2022 at 7:14 AM ^
Yeah, these championship games made more sense when there were two spots and you wanted a "champion" who might sway the committee because they're likely picking from a couple of teams that all look sort of alike (like this year with 3 undefeated teams). But right now with a top 4 you've got teams like OSU who don't have to play an extra game and get guys hurt/worn out and still get all the benefits of making the playoffs.
Honestly, if UM had been in this spot subjectively I'd be happy but it would still suck. People complain about the expanded playoffs but it'll hopefully limit this type of situation where a team loses a spot at the playoffs and another team gets it all because the first team was too good and got "rewarded" with another chance to play a top-12 team for guys in suits.
December 3rd, 2022 at 9:02 AM ^
I don't disagree one bit with your (and ERDoc's) assessment. But I do recall the entire Michigan fanbase pulling for Washington to lose the PAC12 CG in 2016. That season, after losing to OSU, the Committee set us up to get in if UW stumbled - and the whole world knew it. So narratives change, and this time I think its changed for the better. Championship games are nothing more than another chance to get a season ruined after working so hard all year to begin with.
December 3rd, 2022 at 11:49 AM ^
It sucks that UM is making their title run in a tweener year where the antiquated aspects of the old CFP system are causing undue stress on the health of the team.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:56 AM ^
And that was ugly.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:18 AM ^
I mean in a closer loss this might have mattered. I hate to stick up for OSU but they had one very bad defensive performance against UM, USC on the other hand sucked defensively all year. Both had one loss in the regular season but this just confirms that USC is half a football team with a typical very bad Lincoln Riley defense. Despite what UM did to them I still think OSU's defense is better than USC's.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:26 AM ^
USC can't tackle. They had one good tackle all game (i.e., that one hit on Cameron Rising). The rest of the game their defenders were just bouncing off the ball carrier or being dragged all over the field.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:40 AM ^
USC's defense was exposed, and this wasn't the first time this season. And USC's one trick pony offense was also exposed when Williams was half-injured. USC didn't belong at #4. They were the stylish and flashy pick with the Heisman QB and pretty much nothing else.
December 3rd, 2022 at 1:19 AM ^
On the other hand though, having an elite playmaker at QB turned an 8-loss loss team into a 2-loss team.
December 3rd, 2022 at 9:03 AM ^
You just described a vintage Lincoln Riley team. I mean, every OU team he ever coached is USC.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:40 AM ^
I think I can make a similar argument for Bama. They lost on the road in close games. OSU was blown out at home.
December 3rd, 2022 at 6:20 AM ^
*you forgot the word twice...they almost lost twice on the road, on top of the two times they did lose. So it's a no for bama
December 3rd, 2022 at 8:35 AM ^
Two losses versus one loss. The committee looks at losses first.
December 3rd, 2022 at 5:40 AM ^
I am an SC fan and you are 100%. The Notre Game was the one game where USC played solid defense and ND still scored 27 points. The surprising thing about last night wasn’t that Utah scored 40 plus points…it was that USC didn’t score 50.
December 3rd, 2022 at 7:17 AM ^
Cynically (but I think I’m right) the CFP committee only ranked USC #4 to give them an out to send USC in case of a close loss. If championship games didn’t exist I think they rank OSU ahead of USC.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:53 PM ^
You hate to see a Trojan get blown out. This one is going to lead to an unwanted berth.
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:55 PM ^
I see you BG!
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:01 AM ^
And to think, all their busts in the rubber match did them in.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:06 AM ^
It wasn't the rubber match...but I'll allow it.
December 3rd, 2022 at 9:41 AM ^
A rubber match is a contest in a series of successive matches. Wouldn't any rematch be one? Or do the games have to be consecutive?
December 3rd, 2022 at 9:53 AM ^
Rubber match breaks a tie in a series. So if SC and Utah were 1-1 against each other, the third game would be the rubber match.
I think technically it should be consecutive and a series deciding game, but it can be adapted in a non consecutive series, like if UM and MSU split the season series and then meet in the bball BTT.
In baseball it’s often used in a three game regular season series if the teams split the first two games.

And you win the internet for tonight. Well played.

Comment of the decade

Can you imagine if it'd been Washington playing USC tonight? Penix would've probably won the Heisman blowing through so many Trojans.
December 3rd, 2022 at 1:01 AM ^
This is the most perfect response. You win the night Sir

Utah to the Big Ten
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:03 AM ^
Utah plays tough ass ball.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:03 AM ^
They would immediately be my second favorite Big Ten team. I love them. Just always choose violence.
December 3rd, 2022 at 6:37 AM ^
Don’t even joke like that.
December 3rd, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
What do they bring to the big ten that will persist beyond their excellent coach? This would be a short term decision
December 2nd, 2022 at 11:55 PM ^
I'm totally OK with what happened. USC has zero D. Lincoln recruited only 1 side of the ball and it burned him tonight. BTW Utah is a lot more like UM than USC is, so the win is actually good for POWER teams with a mobile QB.
Georgia will not let Ohio have time nor place to beat them.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:02 AM ^
Watching that game was like deja vu. It was pretty much a carbon copy of our win over OSU.
December 3rd, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
I said the same thing
December 3rd, 2022 at 6:38 AM ^
USC’s QB got injured.
December 3rd, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
Stroud was healthy

There’s no defending what happened tonight, but you do realize he’s been there a year right?

December 3rd, 2022 at 12:42 AM ^
How was Oklahoma's defense when he was there? He is not going to change who he is.
