B1G releases statement regarding tunnel

The B1G issues a statement today:

https://bigten.org/news/2022/11/28/general-big-ten-conference-official-statement.aspx

Basically stated that UofM failed to follow procedures to ensure safety for game participants and issued a reprimand.

For MSU, 7/8 players are issued suspensions for time served (4 games). The helmet swinger Crump is also suspended for the first 8 games next year. School also got a 100k fine.

This is why I have zero conference pride, I don't root for the conference in bowl games. Michigan is the only team I care about.

We saw MSU teammates do nothing to stop it

I'm not a fan of this statement from the Big 10. Although I'm not surprised.

HOWEVER . . . given that . . .

  • Michigan killed OSU,
  • Michigan is currently 12 - 0,
  • Michigan will kill Purdue,
  • Michigan will be in the National Championship Playoffs,
  • Michigan already killed MSU,
  • MSU has proven who they are, repeatedly,
  • The courts are involved, and they are not biased like the Big 10 office

I would counsel to largely ignore the Big 10 office, ignore MSU, let the courts and the lawyers do their thing, and to be gracious and above it all. Michigan is in a position of strength and power. Don't abuse that. The general population can quickly turn on Michigan if they are perceived as bullying weaker little brother MSU.

Oh, and going forward, with MSU in particular, avoid being ANYWHERE near the tunnel when they are in the tunnel. I'd probably say the same thing for Illinois and for PSU. Give them space. If Green is back next year, figure out a different way for him to get to his father than to be in the tunnel with other teams.

If Green is back, give him a police escort and send the bill to MSU. Additionally, send MSU the bill for the additional security, prior to the game. If they don’t pay, we don’t play. It’s that simple. It’s their bullshit culture that led to and caused this entire incident.

OK, so what did we do wrong? Two Michigan players were attacked and at least one injured, missing game action as a result, because they left the field before their teammates based on extenuating circumstances but Michigan didn't provide adequate safety for both teams entering an essentially safe space?

What policy or procedure did Michigan violate? This is like hockey penalty enforcement. One guy initiates goon behavior and the other team has to be penalized because he was targeted ? Is wearing the home uniform while the other team is heading to its locker room grounds for wrongful behavior?

We've heard no details or circumstances about the issue to support or challenge the reprimand the   conference found it apparently necessary to give Michigan and MSU breathing space for unwarranted conduct beyond the pale of athletic competition.

Such is life in 2022 it’s probably the “best practice” to point fingers at everyone involved including the victims whenever a situation boils over rather than addressing those who did wrong.  Sticks and stones and all that but nowadays words are seen as damaging at physical assault.

The Michigan reprimand is silly.  There’s 100 years of precedence on teams marching up that tunnel together, probably jawing at each other, without a helmet-smashing assault (by the way, MSU also only has one tunnel).  The B1G was being nice to MSU by calling out Michigan’s tunnel exit decorum.  That won’t distract anyone from the toxicity that is MSU football, which sadly has now devolved into criminal behavior, and the fact that they are being forced to publicly acknowledge it.

My favorite part of the conclusion of this regular season is the dichotomy of storylines making national news.  UM is riding a wave of football excellence and rivalry dominance, post-season accolades, COY discussions, and Blake Corum handing out turkeys on a sprained knee!  Meanwhile, MSU is beleaguered by a losing season without a bowl invitation, overpaid coach discussions, criminal charges, conference fines, and recruiting decommitments.

Someone remind me, is Tuck still Comin’?  Let us know when you find out.  We’ll be in Indianapolis.

Kevin warren is such a joke.  Had to include a reprimand to M to appease his sons school.  It’s disgusting to think they are blaming the victims but that’s where we’re are as a society.  It’s not a two sided situation when one side is 99 percent at fault and it should be ok to say that.

Izzo is doubling down on stupidity, no surprise there.

“It disgusts me that it happened, but it really disgusts me, too, that it wasn't handled better on the front end since they had a problem with Ohio State a year ago and Penn State this year,” Izzo said. “And then we get a $100,000 fine and there's a reprimand. What the hell does a reprimand mean? What does it stand for?

Yep. Fucking asshole can't help but blame his own players for his teams losing, much less this. U of M players weren't the ones committing "misconduct" in either of the three incidents, the three opposing teams were. Virtually all other opponents over all previous seasons have been able to mesh with entering the tunnel with U of M players without throwing shit at them or assaulting them. Basketball dickhead and his previous football counterpart have allowed crotch-shots on the court, domestic violence off the court/field, etc. But hey, why should they have to adjust their procedures to prevent criminal conduct? Doesn't  matter that U of M players committed no criminal conduct. U of M = bad guys, MSU = good guys.

B1G can go fuck themselves, especially the commissioner. Reprimand? SMH. Make a rule for all stadium then. Players are out of control and you want to blame a building.

Our AD is just loved around here. He should make a statement to B1G. Of course he won't or everyone here will say he would do in the background. Security cannot do anything. They lay a finger on those players, the same B1G will be pissed off.

Make a new rule B1G for all schools or GTFO.

Edit: UM clarified that the reprimand is for fan touching Tucker's head. My outrage was not warranted obviously.
