Late Saturday night Heisman update, good news and bad news
These were the odds from yesterday:
Tonight, things are a little different. The good news: Corum's odds have closed in just slightly toward 1st from yesterdays. The bad news: UNC QB Drake Maye has coming flying into the scene, passing Corum slightly into 3rd, and pushing Corum down to 4th, now making it a four man race. It has to be noted, these numbers are from late Saturday night, and could change by Sunday night.
I was hoping for a bigger game for Blake Corum today. But I also understand the coaches wanting to pull him, save his body for the next games, and let a couple of the younger guys play. A fourth person in the mix makes to too much for me to want to do the mental math and get a handle on what Corum's chances of winning it are. I'm just going to watch, and hope for the best.
p.s.,
Just wanted to add this. A nice scene with Blake Corum in the tunnel after the game. It helps to wash away the bad memory of another scene in the tunnel.

Corum's Heisman destiny will be determined in Columbus
November 13th, 2022 at 1:30 AM ^
Yep. Nobody is watching Michigan right now because, frankly, the games aren't all that meaningful (unless an upset happens). Saturday after Thanksgiving in Columbus will be the "Heisman moment" for either Corum or Stroud.

Lots of people are watching Michigan. That's how Corum is projected to be a Heisman finalist. But to win he needs to carry us to victory in the Shoe.

Meh. The tunnel scene. Probably UM Blue Wall manipulation to make MSU look bad.
Lovingly,

Dude, last season I played football was 1989 and I have a better chance of winning the Heisman than a UNC player.
vegas is gonna Vegas and take the easy (unc fan) money

If there’s a fan vote, I’ll vote for you second.

No one outside of North Carolina cares about UNC football (and most people in the state don't either).
It's out there for Blake if we can win out.
November 13th, 2022 at 4:54 AM ^
True, but it would be nice to see UNC get exposed at some point. Might not be till the ACC Championship though.

The ACC CCG - is, overhyped team vs team that’s over-rated. “Worse vs Worser”.

Just. Win. The. Game.
Having an addl showcase game in Indy on 03 Dec would be huge in terms of getting Corum in front of voters.

bigger game??? he rushed for over 160 yds. you ain't smart.
November 13th, 2022 at 6:24 AM ^
Yeah I’m not really getting that statement. He made 160 look easy. Well, as easy as Barry Sanders made it look.

But to overcome the stats of QBs, Blake needs either a massive game in total yards or some big play, highlight moments with 2-3 TDs per game. BC had a great game yesterday no doubt but not a splashy game for Heisman contention imo

He needs the kind of game Hassan Haskins had against Ohio State, but even then Hooker looks to have the edge with their schedule

Who is Drake Maye?

The truth!

Have a nice game against Illinois and beat the Bucks! Get an invite to NY, and even if you don’t get it, hey — YOU BEAT THE BUCKS!

Larry is the man!!! What a warrior! All I got
November 13th, 2022 at 7:15 AM ^
Would be nice if the award went to the best player. Period. Not sure who that is but it isn’t Stroud. Level of difficulty alone says Hooker should be comfortably ahead of him.

P.S. What a beautiful moment. Nice to see a picture of what ABC was talking about yesterday. So glad Blake Corum is a Michigan Wolverine. God bless Larry Prout Jr. and Blake.

Drake Maye is the real deal. He'll be in New York in December, and he'll be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
November 13th, 2022 at 8:54 AM ^
Gee, I haven't heard that since... Trevor Lawrence. Be careful about blessing the "next big thing" coming out of defense-averse conferences like the Big XII or ACC.
November 13th, 2022 at 8:09 AM ^
I'd never heard of Maye either, so I looked him up. He's a redshirt freshman who's piled up a lot of yardage and TDs. He's attempting 10 more passes per game than JJ, but completing them at essentially the same rate as JJ (71.2% vs 70.9%).

Overall, NC's offense is pretty evenly distributed between run and pass, as opposed to Michigan's run-centric offense.
The most notable statistic to me is in defense: NC has given up 313 points in 10 games, while Michigan has given up 112.
The fact that Maye is now among the leaders in the Heisman race emphasizes how it's essentially an award for QBs (or to a lesser extent RBs) who can pile up gaudy stats on winning teams.
November 13th, 2022 at 9:36 AM ^
They didn't pull him. He had 30 carries. That should be enough, but he didn't break any. And jj took his last touchdown
November 13th, 2022 at 10:08 AM ^
If Corum channels Biakabatuka and adds a few TDs while playing in the Toilet Bowl, he will not be denied the HT. Given that Michigan wins.
November 13th, 2022 at 11:54 AM ^
The problem for Blake is that the Heisman has turned into a QB award as only 3 RBs have won the award this century and one - Reggie Bush - was vacated
November 13th, 2022 at 4:28 PM ^
You get more avenues of piling up stats as a QB. Blake would have higher chances if he also had KR/PR duties and we used him like Bush. I don't advocate for this because it's too risky to get Corum hurt. He already carries the offensive load for the team. It's why Woodson is still the last defensive player to ever win it. He had multi-faceted duties and his efforts led us to a NC. The stars aligned for Woodson to be able to win and the fact he did it over Manning makes it all the more special and not likely soon to be repeated.
