Today's Schedule of Games
A Big Ten showdown in Happy Valley, and a lot of subplot games with upset potential this week (Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Please don’t be us. Kthx).
Here are some highlights:
At Noon on FOX: #2 Ohio State at #13 Penn State. It’s dumb to do the “We beat team [fill in the blank] by more/less than Ohio State did” as a predictor of how we will do against them. Different teams play each other differently. But I’m going to do it anyway as I watch this game. It would be awesome to watch Ohio State struggle with Penn State in areas where Michigan had no problems, and see that maybe Ohio State does not really have it all figured out running the ball and defending the run like they claim. Penn State won’t win, but here is hoping that they can give OSU something to think about and fret over as November 26th looms ever closer.
Also at Noon on ABC: Notre Dame at #16 Syracuse. Any time Notre Dame loses a game, it is good for us. We constantly compete with them for top recruits. Any Notre Dame win is a nauseating media-driven Return To Glory ™, especially with a new coaching regime. Spare me please. So I’ll be rooting hard for a Syracuse win and a Notre Dame loss. Plus Dino Babers seems like a cool guy, and Syracuse deserves a break because they got chumped hard last week by the refs “Ohio State treatment” of Clemson. But . . . the world is not a fair place. This will be an ugly Notre Dame win.
In the Afternoon at 3:30 PM on CBS: Florida at #1 Georgia. The "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party". This has typically been a big game nationally, but it’s under the radar this year. Courtesy of Florida. They looked like they had a pulse early in the year, but it was a false dawn. I’ll take a peek at this game for the pageantry of it, but it won’t be much of an actual football game. Georgia wins big.
Also at 3:30 PM on FOX: #9 Oklahoma State at #22 Kansas State. This is a game to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 title. This game hinges on whether Adrian Martinez can play, and play 100%. He’s the difference maker (suck it, Scott Frost). If he can go effectively it will be a KSU win. If not, THE OSU will win it. I’ll be optimistic here and go with KSU to win.
Also at 3:30 PM on ABC: #17 Illinois at Nebraska. Nebraska is a quirky team that has some talent (suck it, Scott Frost). They have not put all the pieces together yet, but they are capable of it for a game. I think this will be that game. They will play inspired and focused and take down Big Ten West leader Illinois in an upset. The winner of the Big Ten West could easily have four losses when it is all over. Even Northwestern is not actually out of it. Stupid. Embarrassing. Fun.
In the Evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN: #19 Kentucky at #3 Tennessee. Kentucky specializes in these kinds of games where they look like a real ranked team in the middle of the season that looks like they could pull off a big SEC upset. But they seldom do, and by season’s end their attention is turning to basketball. They won’t do it today either, and Tennessee stays on a roll.
At 7:30 PM on ABC: Michigan State at #4 Michigan. If I’m Sparty, I am arm-punting Rocky Lombardi-style on every play and hoping for astonishing catches by Reed (or astonishing pass interference calls against Michigan). On defense I am putting 10 in the box and run blitzing like crazy to take away Harbaugh’s “favorite way to win”. There is a 95% chance they will lose in humiliating fashion doing that, but there is a non-zero chance they can pull off a win. It’s happened before. I hope that Harbaugh is not too stubborn to take what they leave on the table and club them to death with it. Our favorite way to win should be to not let them hang around and think they have a chance.
Also at 7:30 PM on SECN: #15 Ole Miss at Texas A&M. Nobody is talking about this game, but if I'm Ole Miss I am nervous as hell. Texas A&M is erratic to say the least. They lost to App State . . . but then they nearly beat Alabama. You don’t know what team you are going to get week-to-week and that’s why Ole Miss should be nervous. I’m predicting the upset here: Texas A&M in a convincing win.
Finally, your Pac-12 After Dark Special - meaningless crazy football just for the fun of it:
At 10:30 PM on ESPN: Stanford at #12 UCLA. This week is a half-off Pac-12 After Dark Special. It’s only meaningless to Stanford. UCLA is trying to stay in the Pac 12 title hunt, and will play like it. Only 200 people will be there to witness it, but UCLA will win and stay alive in the Pac 12.

Here's a fancy schmancy schedule link with some nice aesthetically pleasing graphics:
October 29th, 2022 at 2:26 PM ^
Damn MDog great post +1
October 29th, 2022 at 11:55 AM ^
I hate OSU and want them to lose, but better for UM if they win a close one.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:09 PM ^
Is it? I mean, it honestly probably is but I have no idea who I want to see win in games like these.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
If PSU wins there are scenarios where Michigan goes into Columbus as the Big Ten East champion before the game is even played.
Roar Lions Roar!
October 29th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
That would include them losing to either Northwestern, Indiana or Maryland which I think is pretty unlikely.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:50 PM ^
No, it wouldnt. Would just need Michigan, OSU, and PSU to win out and force a three-way tie in the East. If Illinois keeps winning, Michigan would get the tie breaker and go to the Big Ten Championship regardless of the result in Columbus.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
Yep, and those scenarios are not that far fetched. The big 3 in the east win out, and Illinois keeps winning while Purdue/Minnesota keep losing
October 29th, 2022 at 12:01 PM ^
Reggie Bush picks an Ohio State university 42-27 over Penn State. Love it. I hope he is wrong and ohio fans remember the score.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:07 PM ^
You-know-what Ohio State
October 29th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
"The world famous Ohio State Buckeyes" according to Gus.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
Its always the knee - Gus Johnson
October 29th, 2022 at 12:02 PM ^
Reggie Bush just said that Penn St and Ohio St have the two best runningback duos in college football! What!?! They watched Michigan run for 400 yards against Penn St with Corum and Edwards. These guys are idiots
October 29th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
Sam Webb dogs Reggie Bush and that is exactly why. He is an idiot but famous
October 29th, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
Yeah, he's not a smart man.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
Wondering if anyone else is finding their MGo web pages hanging up quite a lot lately? Probably due to ads no doubt. I am running the latest update of Google Chrome.
October 29th, 2022 at 2:34 PM ^
I made a donation via beveled guilt and turned on my ad blocker. Come to think about it bout time to do it again.
October 29th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
Ahh, how much of a donation unlocks the ad blocker feature?
October 29th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
It’s like a white and purple stripe out with a lot of red mixing with the blue
October 29th, 2022 at 12:09 PM ^
Note: Triple cover Marvin Harrison.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Penn State is a joke. All bark. No bite
October 29th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
But at least they march out of their tunnel arm in arm, led by Frames.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
Soft ice cream vs PBJ. OSU running game is not UM's run game but WRs are so good.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Nice seeing OSU’s offense stall in the red zone.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
They didn’t reach the red zone. They’re still technically perfect in the red zone this year.
October 29th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
Not anymore. Two sack soo far on stroud, unless I missed others.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Stroud getting the ball out quick so far. Not giving PSU any chance to get to him.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
Stroud sucks under pressure, but Penn State is not getting any.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
He’s throwing within the first three seconds so far.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
That looked like it would be an easy OSU TD, but PSU holds them to 3.
Let's go Cliffy!
October 29th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
Is this also the de facto noon games thread?
This is OSU's eighth game and only their second away from Ohio Stadium. Stroud already showing that you can affect him with crowd noise.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
Like last year in Ann Arbor.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
I am hoping PSU gashes them on the ground.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
Is it written in Gus Johnson’s contract that he HAS to refer to OSU as the ‘World Famous’ Ohio State Buckeyes?’ He’s called them that three times already.
Do kindly stop doing that.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:18 PM ^
He's more showman than announcer these days.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
Before their third down, he didn’t even use the words Ohio State. He said “Third & Long for World Famous!”
STFU!!!
October 29th, 2022 at 12:20 PM ^
100% and while I'm in the minority, I'm not a fan because of that reason.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:19 PM ^
That and Clifford being the “Cincinnati Kid”
October 29th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
That's his thing, like "The All American Girl".
October 29th, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
Like nails on a chalkboard, to me.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
It's because there were a ton of osu b1g champions shirts from last year that were printed and sent to third world countries.
October 29th, 2022 at 2:44 PM ^
Hey, what happened to your points? Did you get Aced from beyond?
October 29th, 2022 at 3:08 PM ^
Annoying, but fitting. It’s like a cheesy slogan for a cheap burger chain. Very on-brand
October 29th, 2022 at 12:20 PM ^
I wouldn't mind that feeling I had week 2 last season. That was a fun day!
October 29th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
I guess PSU used all of their lucky bounces against Michigan.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
OSU turnover luck continues.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
Cliffy, NO!
October 29th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
Penn St deserves that after the helmet doink int
October 29th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
Frames Janklin really needs to play Allar. He’s doing his team a huge disservice keeping Clifford in.
October 29th, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
Great defensive stand by PSU.
