James?

We see you there.
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
Did Tennessee, who went to OT with Pitt and squeaked by Alabama (who squeaked by 5-3 Texas and 3-4 Texas A&M), stay ahead of us because........SEC?
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:35 PM ^
Don’t forget Tennessee gave up nearly 600 yards to unranked (and very lucky not to be 1-6) Florida. So Tennessee definitely jumped us because…..SEC

Did Tennessee, who went to OT with Pitt and squeaked by Alabama (who squeaked by 5-3 Texas and 3-4 Texas A&M), stay ahead of us because........SEC?
Now you're getting it.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:45 PM ^
Its the same reason why a 6 game winning streak Illini is behind a 25 point losing Ole Miss team. Fucking whack.
Yeah it doesnt matter until Bama gets big props vs Ole Miss and we get a meh after a 9-2 Illini drops to unraked after a 9 game winning streak. Each one of these moves has future repercussions.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
We were 3rd last week, I guess Tennessee's impressive win over the mighty Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin swayed the coaches...
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:48 PM ^
(Edit) Nevermind, I agree crazy that UT would jump Michigan after Penn State proved they are a legit team this week.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
We were 3rd in coaches, 4th in AP last week.
October 24th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
Yes, and I'm pretty sure we had a first-place vote last week, as well.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
So Tennessee jumps us by beating Tenn Martin..This is what I HATE about these polls whether its coaches or Sports writers...EVERYONE has their own agenda//what league their from. what teams their home state sports writers Hate etc etc etc...When the CFP expands these will become increasingly irrelelvant... Thank God
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:10 PM ^
These polls are already irrelevant. The only poll that matters begins on November 1st.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
To be fair, UT has the #3 SOS in CFB. Michigan is at #34 (thanks to our woeful out of conference games.) I'm sure that is playing a role in this.
But as has been stated MANY times, it doesn't matter. We win out and we'll be in the playoffs and will have either the #1 or #2 seed.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:10 PM ^
And as we all know 1 Loss disqualifies a Big 10 team but NOT SEC teams...
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:58 PM ^
Why care? If we lose to ohio i really dont care about the rest of the season. Ill watch the bowl game on tv like i watch the maize and blue game, just a fun exhibition. The Game is the only one that matters and there's no poll for that one.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:48 PM ^
Because one loss Bama Lsu and Georgia teams make the playoffs and one loss big ten teams stay home. It matters because those recruits we want that can help us beat OSU go other places where you get mulligans. It matters even if you think you are watching checkers believe me its chess.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:30 PM ^
But we lost a game last year and made the playoffs, so I don’t follow this whole line of argument.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:02 PM ^
As did 2014 OSU, 2015 MSU and 2016 OSU.
October 24th, 2022 at 6:28 PM ^
You missing my point. They didnt have to chose. Throw a 1 loss LSU in there and you would see.
October 23rd, 2022 at 9:35 PM ^
They also go other places if we schedule tough OOC games that surprise us and we lose early in the season.
At the end of the day, espn is going to hype their sec teams that they have the television contract for. Trying to get espn to like us more by not doing what we think is best for our team is an exercise in futility. ohio has to deal with the same sec bias, they don't bitch about it, they know if they lose the game that's the end of the season for them too.
Edit: or maybe they do bitch about it, idk, still doesn't make it any less futile.
October 24th, 2022 at 4:52 PM ^
OSU gets in plenty with 1 loss I think
October 23rd, 2022 at 5:07 PM ^
oHIO’s schedule isn’t anything to write home about…getting really sick of the non conference crap which seems to be from the Fowler comments.
October 23rd, 2022 at 9:38 PM ^
Their schedule is very easy actually, they haven't played a single good football team yet. They also avoid illinois which is as of now the clear best team in the west division. PSU will be an interesting test, a very talented team that they will actually have to outplay rather than every other game so far where they won by walking onto the field.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:46 PM ^
I think this year, Georgia and Michigan are the two best teams, and the rest of the top six have significant flaws. We'll see how it shakes out, but I'm predicting UGa and M as the #1 & #2 seeds when the dust settles.
Also predicting that the rematch, if we are so fortunate, will look different than the orange bowl drubbing.
October 23rd, 2022 at 7:05 PM ^
I like what your saying and wanna believe.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:50 PM ^
Did Phil Fulmer get a vote?
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Peyton's nephew posted it via Sark.
October 23rd, 2022 at 8:10 PM ^
LOL! Well played
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:00 PM ^
The AP website has Clemson with the one vote - did ESPN typo there?
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
ESPN has an autocorrect function.
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
Ha ha..that is funny. This year's Clemson is a fraud. Syracuse was a bad team.
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
I watched a lot of that game. Syracuse seems to have a bad coach(es). Their head coach gets all sorts of love from the media, but he can't manage a game, didn't run his all conference running back (5 carries at something like 9 yards per carry AND THEY HAD THE LEAD for most of the game!!!) and his players were unhinged (talented and very good at defending the pass and rushing the passer, but not disciplined at all). It was a shock how he/they gave that game away. Dabo gets all this credit for winning close games, but I suspect he's just the only good coach in that league and has been mostly unparalleled (plus the two generation type QBs) for years.
Edit: Tucker, Syracuse's RB carried the football FIVE times for 10.8 yards per carry.
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
Espn screwed up. Clemson has the single #1 vote, but after watching their game yesterday it should be #2
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:50 PM ^
Its built on Wake forest being a top ten team when in reality Illinois is much better and they are the 4th best team in the big ten. Penn state would crush them. A 1 loss ACC team being much better than a 1 loss big ten team is silly.
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:07 PM ^
Don't stress it - TN probably has losses each of the next two week (KY and GA), and Georgia also moves into the challenging part of it's schedule. Michigan will be #2 or #3 headed into The Game by taking care of its own business
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
Syracuse dropped all the way to 16 from 14. They were awful.
PSU is 13. I guess OSU needs to beat a top team. But that victory was impressive even with MN's backup QB.
It seems like PAC12 is going to beat up on each other.
TCU could sneak in if they can withstand next few weeks.
It doesn't seem like a season with many strong teams in the top 10. Most have some flaws. Going to be interesting few weeks.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
The only thing impressive about that PSU game was how much it demonstrated Michigan's level of dominance. Their offense looked efficient and capable of opening a run game against a quality opponent... until you remember what Minter and Co. did to them. Their defense looked suffocating....until you remember that Michigan ran for 418 GOTDANG YARDS on them.
We'll see how the next few weeks go, but it certainly feels like "big 2, little 12" is in play.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:43 PM ^
The best part of watching that game was the continual references to “after what Michigan did to them last week…”
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:34 PM ^
+1 insightful
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
I don't stress about Tennessee. They have to play Georgia and if they win, Alabama yet again (maybe LSU?). They win those and they deserve their ranking. For U-M, win the games in front of us and it doesn't matter. I think that is very doable.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:23 PM ^
The SEC will sort itself out. There will be 2 1-loss teams or 3 1-loss teams. I think that works in M’s favor. If M loses to OSU, but play a good game, they are just as deserving to go to the playoffs as a second 1 loss SEC team. The worst case scenario for M is Alabama winning out, then the SEC probably gets two.
So right now, it’s likely
SEC champ
BIG champ
Clemson
TCU
A Clemson or TCU loss and Georgia winning out is what we need. And of course M winning out or losing to OSU in a great game.
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
I'm interested in getting into the playoffs even if we lose to Ohio St. I know, I know, just be the better team and win and problem solved. The thing is, college football is fluky as hell, and we've been on the short end of flukes for so long (punt in the MSU game; BS in a couple of OSU games). I want equilibrium and even if we lose to Ohio St., I want us to get in then win 2 fluky ass games. Yes, I'd rather beat Ohio St., but I also want the foregoing to be a possibility.
I'm rooting for chaos w/ all of the other top teams so that we can maximize our chances of getting in.
October 23rd, 2022 at 3:47 PM ^
Root hard for Penn St next week then. If M, OSU, and PSU all tie at 8-1, the tiebreaker for division champ is winning percentage of teams played in Big Ten West. UM has a significant advantage because of the millstone that is Northwestern. (Though who knows what the committee would do in that scenario, would probably depend on the nature of the OSU-Michigan game).
October 24th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
Agree 100%. That’s how Alabama has all their natties. They are not always undefeated at end of regular season. In order of preference..
1. Just beat the Bucks!
2. Three way tie thanks to Penn State beating OSU and our Big Ten West opponents have better records.
3. We lose close game in Columbus and get in thanks to chaos!
It all beats where this program was just TWO YEARS AGO. Let’s enjoy the ride!!
October 23rd, 2022 at 9:40 PM ^
If we lose to ohio i really don't care about the rest. We could win the national title but if we lost to ohio it's still a failed season in my book. Idk not arguing just offering my perspective.
October 24th, 2022 at 12:00 AM ^
I would take a loss to OSU every year if it came bundled with a national championship. And I'd be willing to be that most Michigan fans would say the same. The national champion is the king of the mountain. Let OSU yap about the victory. All we would do is point to the title.
October 24th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
I agree. At just about every school, one can count on one's fingers the number of national titles that school has won. It is rare, and it is the holy grail of achievement in college football. The rivalry game is important but it happens every year (whereas we haven't played in a national championship game in almost 25 years) and is supplanted by the certain occurrence of it the following year (excluding COVID).

thank you for the red circle
