Now that you say that, I feel like I remember hearing about that last year...

In case anyone is wondering (as I was), the kid's name is Joaquin Consuelos. So no, you did not miss an athlete named "John Ripa" or something.
Kind of like Julia Louis-Dreyfus' kid, Charlie Hall, who played basketball at Northwestern.
October 18th, 2022 at 12:09 PM ^
A lot of celeb's kids go to Northwestern. During graduation weekend last spring, we saw Stewart Copeland walking around Evanston (I believe he had a daughter graduate) and in the past we saw Tony Goldwyn, of Ghost and Divergent fame, eating with his kid. These are just the ones off the top of my head. There have been others.
October 18th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
I have to admit that I have no idea who either of those people are.
October 18th, 2022 at 2:30 PM ^
Stewart Copeland had some minor success playing drums as one third of The Police. You may not recognize his name or his face, but you'd probably recognize some lines he laid down if you heard them. You might recognize Goldwyn if you looked up his picture; or maybe not, depending on if you're a movie fan or not.

While I was on a college tour at NYU with my son, Bob Odenkirk was in our break out group with his daughter. He wore a floppy hat and sunglasses, which made him even more identifiable as Bob Odenkirk, Nice try, Bob.

He should have worn a fedora with safari flaps in the back.

This was indeed mentioned before. Someone posted a pic of Kelly drinking coffee from a Michigan mug on her show.
But it's a pleasant reminder on a Tuesday. Thank you for posting.
She has a set of positive attribrutes beyond her Michigan fandom....
October 18th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
Took my wife to a UM wrestling meet last spring. Kelly was there. My wife is a huge fan and went over to ask for a selfie before the meet. Kelly patted the bench and asked her to sit. They then chatted for 10 minutes like lifelong besties. Kelly is a very cool lady.
October 18th, 2022 at 10:10 PM ^
She sounds like a nice person. I wonder what Regis would say?

Some families just really get the sh*t end of the short stick in life, huh. Good looking, elite athletically, lots of money, fame. Must be hard.

I dunno man, Terry Bradshaw seems to have had a pretty good run. He was in that Smokey and the Bandit movie with Burt. He played in a couple Super Bowls. Etc.
October 18th, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
Right, but someone keeps giving away millions of dollars of TERRY'S MONEY! There's always something.
October 18th, 2022 at 1:49 PM ^
And, you know, cancer.
October 18th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
My Michigan fandom will support TB but as a human being, he fucked up and is directly responsible for his situation -- none of it is circumstantial or environmental.
7 rings and a trophy wife wasn't good enough for him. He *needed* to come back for one more?
SMDH
And yeah, TB had better numbers than Rodgers and should have been MVP last year.

This is such a strange view. Most people work into their 60s. Tom Brady is the GOAT. The greatest to ever play a game that has been player for over a century. He is supposed to retire when he is still great because he doesn’t see his kids enough? One more year was too much for his kids to handle? I am sure there are people on this board who travel for work multiple days per week and don’t see their families enough. Brady and Giselle met while Brady was playing. Its not like she was unaware of the lifestyle. Whether he retires at 45 46 or 47 she will get more of him than most people get with their spouses. Who are not world famous icons. Give me a break.
October 18th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
Most people work into their 60s.
Next time compare apples and apples.
In the NFL the average retirement age is 27. So someone in their 40s in the NFL is way on the right side of the bell curve.
One more year was too much for his kids to handle?
Yes.
Especially when one partner has put their life and career on hold for the other. A marriage is a team sport. Giselle has supported TB for a long time now and singlehandedly taken care of the family without much in return.
For someone claiming "strange views" your takes lack a lot of relevancy and transparency. Weird indeed.
October 18th, 2022 at 4:12 PM ^
Put her life on hold? This is just ridiculous. She has done no such thing nor has she had to. Choosing not to walk down the runway is her choice. Other women with children do it. And in addition to all of the money they have to give their children everything, Tom has multiple months off per year where he is expected to do little to nothing with regard to football. Seems like he is covering a lot of bases. And he will be retired two decades before the average American regardless of when he decides it is time. You can argue that their status as celebrities changes the dynamic but the fundamentals of a marriage are constant. Its about teamwork. If Tom is a shitty teammate at home because of his football that is an issue but suggesting that is indeed a definite is a stretch. Plenty of athletes have perfectly functional marriages.

Definitely better than British accent Gwyneth Paltrow. Or the current Goop-snake oil-pushing Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Gwyneth Paltrow who sells rocks that women are supposed to keep in their hoohahs. For health reason?

And Ripa was a cunt to Michael Strahan.

Michael Strahan now has his own snake oil skin product line. What kind of 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon shit is this?
October 18th, 2022 at 3:02 PM ^
Not the point.
Just like FauxMo said, they are all vacuous, soulless, talking heads...
...so taking sides in celebrity he said she said is a fool's errand.
Which is ultimately my point.

He's a B1G Champ wrestler insofar as he is on the team and the team won the B1G tournament this past season. He only wrestled unattached in one tournament.
October 18th, 2022 at 10:48 AM ^
He's also a RS freshman this season. Agree that he's on the team, hence champion, but not an individual champion. Yet? I have no idea what his potential is.
October 18th, 2022 at 11:42 AM ^
Wrestling is both a team and individual sport.
I think if you asked almost any wrestler they would be fine with saying they were a member of the Big Ten Championship Wrestling team. Saying they are a Big Ten Champ Wrestler would not make any wrestler comfortable that didn’t win the tournament individually no matter how high they placed. In fact I’m sure Joaquin would correct someone if they called him that. Wrestlers are a pretty humble crowd.
I don’t think any insult was intended.

I shared this story on here a few weeks ago.
My daughter (2026 UM Grad) was at a party and was standing in a group with their son.
They ended up next to each other and my daughter said, "You look familiar. Are you 'Reepa?'"
He very nicely corrected her and introduced himself by his full name.
When she told us the story, my wife and I both did facepalms.
Oh well. We do the best we can.

Every parent everywhere.
October 18th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
Admittedly, these facepalms work both ways with both parents and kids. I remember being 16 years old and in a hotel in Chicago in the late 80s with my Dad. David Lee Roth was staying in our hotel and got into the elevator with us. I was pretty starstruck. The elevator got stuck and we were in there with him for a good 5 minutes while we waited for a service call. My Dad, the kind person that he is, tries to break the ice and gives a big smile to the other side of the elevator and says "So how are you today, Mr. Halen?"
The response he got, with a bit of a "you idiot" grin and in his one-of-a-kind DLR voice was: "It's Diamond Dave, man...".
I wanted to jump through the hatch of the elevator and escape right there. Of course now I think it's hilarious, but man......parents.

My parents once stumbled onto Keith Richards passed out in the elevator of a LA hotel back in the 80s...

October 18th, 2022 at 11:28 AM ^
In Feb. 2010, I was on an elevator in a hotel in LA with Richard Dreyfuss and a woman. They spent the entire elevator ride bickering with one another. Celebrities are just like us!
It was a much-needed moment of comic relief, as I was unfortunately in LA to see a close friend (and fellow UM grad) who was in the hospital battling bile duct cancer...and who subsequently passed away about a week later at the age of 42.
(Sorry to drag down this thread!)

I was a "too cool to go out to eat with my parents" teenager in 83'. I wanted to party with some friends before going to a Genesis show (my favorite band at the time).
The next day they told me all about the dinner & drinks they ended up having with a bunch of British musicians they met at this hotel restaurant . . .
