Great Michigan sports photos
There are iconic Michigan sports photos that everyone knows: Desmond’s Heisman pose, Woodson with a rose in his mouth, Rumeal at the FT line in OT, Hassan’s hurdle and many others. These are iconic. However, there are other great photos that didn’t reach that level. Maybe they happened in a game that didn’t have the importance of a championship. Or maybe they were overshadowed by another iconic photo from the same game.
Here are 2 of my favorites:
This one I call Little Brother. Mork was down an insurmountable amount with little time left and, being Mork, he went for 2, which resulted in a fumble and 98-yard return for Jabrill.
Tripp Wellborn and the late Vada Murray attempting to block a FG against OSU. Man could those guys sky! I thought that was how blocked FGs were supposed to happen.
So what are your favorite underappreciated Michigan photos, from any sport?
Here's the play that set up that picture...
Ah, the Duke game in 1977. The only game I missed in my college years - wallowing in my dorm room with a massive hangover.
What comes to mind for me:
How high is he? 15 feet?
Woodson bobble head in the kitchen at the Stadium...
After the game...
Leaving the suites after the game...
Good things happened when Charles was smiling.
This reminds me of when Moe broke that guy's ankles. I think he was being interviewed at his apartment, and there was a picture of him and in the background, there was a picture of him breaking the ankles. I'll keep trying to find it.
edit: best I could find.
I feel like it was semi-iconic at the time but has faded slightly from collective memory.
Reminds me of this
A lot of great content in this post, but this one never gets old.
It's a fantastic photo to begin with, but what really is striking to me is that Penn State's QB has just been flattened and could possibly be injured, and what are his offensive lineman doing? Coming to his aid to see if he's OK? Giving him a hand up? Nope, walking away.
This is my contribution...
Haaaaaaaaah! I'm such an immature idiot I just laughed at this for a full 30 seconds. What is wrong with me....
you are a guy
i guess that's UM's all-time team? wonder how they would fair against other all-time teams. have to think they would be up there. the defense would be amazing.

Logged in to say this picture is awesome, I've never seen it before, and I need one framed. What a great idea

Hail, I have a few of those too. Fantastic pics. I especially liked the night game against ND in the rain.
Desmond's diving catch against Notre Dame. Look at the girl holding the camera up in the perfect spot at the perfect time. How come we've never seen THAT picture?
Maybe she forgot to load film in the camera.

Holy crap!!!! Where the hell has this been all these years?
I randomly came across it on Twitter awhile ago and was just as surprised. The photographer probably had the stadium’s best view for that moment and perfectly captured it. Glad to share!

THANK YOU!!
That's one of the most fantastic photos I've never seen (until now).
EDIT
Denard kneeling at the end of the record setting run at ND and the color guard walking past him and cussing also epic.
Pretty sure this is Campredon's work and I downloaded it from this website, so credit. Anyway, Chase Winovich was a whirling ball of knives.
I’ll admit, being in the stands of that 2016 MSU game I was freaking out as they were lining up for the 2 pt conversion because of what happened the year prior. Like I should’ve logically realized that even if they got the 2 pt conversion, they’d be down with 5 with only 1 second left. You can’t advance an onside kick. But I was thinking of some crazy scenario where Michigan catches the kickoff, doesn’t immediately fall on the ground or take a knee, and is stripped with MSU recovering it and taking it back for a TD. That 2015 game has made my brain go to really weird places at the end of games.
When I was a student, somebody in South Quad had a poster that was Ty Wheatley from behind as he crosses the goal line against MSU.
I've never seen the photo / been able to find it anywhere else. Wish I could find it somewhere - I think it is likely from the play at 4:00 in this video. (Thank you WH!)
Some possibility it was the one at 6:55 with the MSU player diving at him while he still has the ball in his hand.
Then again... was it at 10:10 with him high-stepping into the endzone with 4 Spartans in his dust?
What a player / what a game looking back on it. I gotta find that picture.
Don't know that poster, but this is a pretty badass photo of Wheatley.
Not your basic iconic moment, but it is iconic nonetheless. Bo should have had that game, but it just turned out to be just another ref job...
Looks like those guys jumped too high! Against the rules now.

i've never seen this one before. very cool.
i know this dude is in peak condition, but he looks like a beat-up old man.
Harmon always did. I think that came from having his nose broken so many times.
I love this picture, and always have. I think of it as his "warrior" shot. Late in the game, with his uniform torn and filthy from carrying the ball so much. But his expression, his stance, his whole attitude says, "I'm coming again. You can try and stop me. But you won't."
Huh? Eyes, chin, posture look good. Hands on hips. I understand your reaction but look again. I suspect the dirty uniform in a black & white photo gave you a worn look.
