Josh Conerly Jr to Oregon
He reemerged from the forest 4 months after signing day from his Alex Kozan-esque vision quest. We were in his final 6. We seemed like we were in the lead after he was on hand for the Washington game OL clinic. Things turned a little ominous when he didn't come for the OSU game. Delaying his decision opened the door for all the new coaches in Oregon, USC, Miami to make their pitches. Damn West Coast strikes again.
Exhibit 100157 of recruiting making no sense. Conerly was a lock to Michigan for most of the season, he never commits despite a B1G championship, CFP birth, and him admitting he has the best connection with Sherrone Moore, USC emerges as the heavy favorite, then he commits to Oregon
crootin' ::shrug emoji::
It makes all kinds of sense when you realize his closest connection at Michigan was Courtney Morgan and going off the west coast wasn’t something he was entirely comfortable with.
He’s been off the board since Courtney Morgan left and I don’t really know why Sam was the only one who didn’t acknowledge it.
I know everyone likes to look smart and be a Sam contrarian or whatever but Sam said exactly that like immediately after Courtney Morgan left.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty well known that he was unlikely to sign once Morgan left, and Sam certainly mentioned it on at least one podcast I heard.
Sam has his flaws and biases but much like crapping on JayBaugh people sometimes just trot his name out to sound smarter without it being correct.
ak47 loves to talk shit about Sam without actually knowing what he has said. You’re correct, he said that Morgan leaving decreased our chances but Conerly’s very strong connection to Moore, who Conerly admitted was his strongest coach connection, was our best shot at getting Conerly to commit
I don’t really know why Sam was the only one who didn’t acknowledge it.
You continue trotting out this line of bullshit and it's still bullshit.
I just re-listened to Sam's recruiting roundup from March 3—over a fucking month ago—and he was very open about the threats from other schools like USC and Oregon, especially in light of his final official visits to those two schools. He was not treating Conerly like a lock to Michigan in the slightest, and in fact had been saying ever since Conerly didn't commit on signing day that time was not Michigan's ally, and that the longer the recruitment went, the stronger the chances were for other schools to land Conerly.
Makes total sense.
There's always the Transfer Portal in a year or two.
USC thought he was all theirs. Gotta sting.
and never thought he’d leave the west coast
No offense to the OP or anyone else interested in the news, but this (well, not picking Michigan) has been a foregone conclusion for several months.
Definitely!
Once both signing days passed there was ~.01% chance he was signing with the good guys
These are the kinds of guys you can't let slip away to beat the Georgia's of the world.
Literally every school in the country, except Oregon didn’t get him, so…I guess it’s down to Georgia and Oregon in the CFP for the foreseeable future.
Don’t try and reason with a Goblin!
"Guess who's back, back again..."
So the sky isn't falling anymore with a B1G Championship trophy sitting in Schembechler Hall. But go on then...move the sticks kid.
How many Georgias are there?
MGoBlog's Old Faithful (Geyser of shit), right here.
Or the Ohio States. Everyone is giddy that we beat them once in the last fifteen years or whatever, but there is still a MASSIVE talent gap between our roster and OSU’s. And, not surprisingly the playoff boost to our recruiting is nowhere to be found.
Thanks for reminding us so we don't get too excited.
Wow you’re so smart! Thanks for trying to steal our joy!!! We won’t celebrate these two numbers at all 42-27!!! I’m soo sad. We just won. Great point.
It seems that talent gap lessens significantly when you punch the other team in the mouth...
Weird how that works.
ThadMattsagoblin...how do you propose we change this dynamic?
Some good bud in Lane County.
ESPN McCalley and Pat recruiting youtube show said " he ruled USC out after his last visit " and people were assuming USC was gonna be the choice
They also said he isnt a "limelight kinda kid" so maybe the bright lights of LA ,scared him off too
Offensive line is not at the top of my concerns for this team. He may turn out to be great, but our OL will be fine without him.
Has been 15 years since we could say that, how does it feel knowing we are solid at OL finally? No coincidence that we also won our first B1G championship in 17 years
You have one of my two favorite handles/usernames on this board. Go for two and Never Punt.
Onward and upward. Our Joe Moore Award winners remain in contention this year...and the next...
Commits to a dumpster fire program who hired a defensive minded coach...
Good luck
Actually glad it's not USC, I'd given up on him coming here and assumed he was lured in by Riley.
Yeah but what about Shavodrick Beaver?
