Big Day for UM Alum in the NBA
Wolverines continue to break out in the NBA. Today's highlights:
Duncan Robinson shoots 6-11 from 3, leading the Miami Heat with 25 points (along with 5 rebs, 3 assists, and 2 steals) in a win over the Lakers.
Mo Wagner leads Orlando with 23 points, Franz goes for 18, and Iggy Brazdeikis adds 11 as the Magic take it to the Bulls.
With teammate Stephen Curry struggling (1-13 from 3), Jordan Poole steps up and leads Golden State with 20 points in a close win over the Jazz, including this sick ankle-breaking 3-pointer.
6th man THJ chipped in 9 pts as the Mavs beat Memphis. Trey Burke has been playing spot minutes as well, alongside his old backcourt mate.
Caris Levert scored 30 to lead the Pacers in a win over the Lakers last Wednesday, but he's missed the last 2 games with a minor calf strain. He's expected to return to action this week.
Fun to see these guys thrive in the League. GO BLUE!

Good to see the guys doing well, did we have a Sauce sighting? Speaking of great ankle breakers....

Nik has had a little bit of a rejuvenation in the G League this year. He was picked up on a 10 day by the Heat during one of these COVID shopping sprees. Played two games (Houston/Sacramento) in limited minutes, before reassigning back to the G League and going for 20 in his first game back.
He hasn't played in the Grand Rapids Gold's last three games, not sure why. Website still lists him as on the roster, so maybe he injured.

He’s injured.

Did Mo flex again?

So cool! Mama must be happy....
For the NBA mavens, how many times have brothers played on the same team?
January 24th, 2022 at 9:40 AM ^
I remember the Morris brothers both ended up on the Suns at one point. I think they renegotiated their contracts as a package deal and split it. Or something like that. One eventually got traded.
January 24th, 2022 at 9:55 AM ^
There were seven pairs:
Goran and Zoran Dragic - Suns 2014
Tyler and Ben Hansbrough - Pacers 2012
Marcus and Markieff Morris - Suns 2012
Tom and Dick Van Arsdale - Suns 1976
Mark and Brent Price - Bullets 1995
Stephen and Seth Curry - Warriors 2013
Dominique and Gerald Wilkins - Hawk 1998

Didn’t Blake Griffin’s brother have a stint with him?
January 24th, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
Aaron and Justin Holiday had multiple seasons together in Indiana until Aaron was traded to Washington this off-season. I’d be surprised if there weren’t other examples in addition to that list. (I think Justin and Jrue overlapped in Philly, for example.)
January 24th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
Giannis and his brother both play for the Bucks too.
January 24th, 2022 at 11:47 AM ^
Thanks! Didn't 2 of the Ball brothers play together for a short time?
Actually 2 balls should always be together as 1 is not enough.
/I will show myself out now

I think his list might be "best" brother combos in NBA .. There have been 20+ brother/teammates, Cody and Caleb Martin hornets , the Lopez brothers (couple times) ,Antetokoumpo brothers Bucks,Holidays for Pacers, i think 2 of the 3 Berrys played together , ... i think the Grant brothers played for the Pistons a few games this year or last year ..etc

Get that adidas shit outta here!

My guess is about 7.

Holy lord, is that a Manta-fahrer t-shirt on Mo? I knew he was cool but that's some next-level shit right there. MUST ACQUIRE.

When did they become the Orangelando Magic?
January 24th, 2022 at 9:01 AM ^
But I thought Beilein players were just good in his system and never do anything in the NBA?
January 24th, 2022 at 9:06 AM ^
Seeing Mo and Franz playing together is awesome. With their age gap, have they ever played on the same team before?
January 24th, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
They only played together if you count them beating each other up in Moe's apartment in DC during the early Covid break. I'm pretty sure Moe didn't get his damage deposit back.
January 24th, 2022 at 11:30 AM ^
I would expect them both to be playing on the German team going forward. Must be great for them being on the same team right now though.
January 24th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
Thank you for compiling this. Those results are great to see.
January 24th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
This is awesome. I have a limited interest in the nba, generally speaking. But I love looking up the box scores to see how the guys on this list are doing. Would love seeing Livers join that party.
January 24th, 2022 at 11:13 AM ^
Man do I love Clarkston's face after the Poole ankle-breaker.
January 24th, 2022 at 11:26 AM ^
Great to see our players do well. Especially THJ and Robinson having really down seasons after signing massive new contracts. Franz is clearly the best Wolverine prospect in the NBA right now and I'm really curious what kind of player he'll top out at.
January 24th, 2022 at 11:48 AM ^
Caris just can’t ever seem to have an entire year healthy, he could easily be one of the best pure scorers and all around players to come out of Michigan, I hope he has a Jamal Crawford type career where he just never seems to retire and always contributes when he is healthy.
And of course I wish this for every former Wolverine, but Caris just has a special place for me as a fan. John Belien’s greatest find for sure.
January 24th, 2022 at 12:02 PM ^
A healthy Caris in a Michigan uniform is one of the biggest "what could have been" scenarios in our sporting history. He was destined for Trey Burke-like status if he hadn't experienced multiple season ending injuries.
January 24th, 2022 at 11:54 AM ^
Iggy played the star
Jamming good with Poole and Matthews
One year after MAAR
He dribbled left hand
But drove it too far
He left to join the draft
Should've stayed and honed his craft
January 24th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
But boy could he play the star
January 24th, 2022 at 1:16 PM ^
So where were the Spartans?
While Moe Wagner broke both Ward's ankles
January 24th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
John Beilein is an absolute wizard, and each of these guys put in the work to make it happen at the pro level as well.
I cannot believe Duncan Robinson went from Division 3 runner-up to 9-figures of NBA earnings in less than a decade!
January 24th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
You could make an argument that there was no one in college basketball during Beilein's tenure that was better at finding talent and maximizing it to its fullest potential than he was. And not just finding talent, but the right talent for his system. Evaluating who brought what to the table and how that was going to fit into the lineup, I'd argue few, if any, did it better than him.
Especially for a guy who was never trying to recruit like Duke or Kentucky by getting five McDonalds All Americans on the floor together who's sole strategy is just to out-athlete you.
January 24th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
I don't think there's really any debate.
Guys like Brad Stevens come to mind, and maybe a few others who coached mid-majors to really high levels of success, but Beilein probably still wins out.
January 24th, 2022 at 1:26 PM ^
As Coach Beilein one said, Poole has an overdose of swag.
What an absolutely sick move.

Duncan is a story to tell your grandkids about.
