Michigan Gets Georgia In College Football Playoff(!)
Well, here's the bracket:
- Alabama
- Michigan
- Georgia
- Cincinnati
Georgia was the SEC runner-up after an undefeated regular season but lost to Alabama 41-24 in the SEC championship game. Michigan will play them at the Orange Bowl in Miami on New Year's Eve.
There is no content after the jump.

On New Years Eve, a game that ends near 11:00 is not "prime time". When they had CFP games on New Years Eve a few years ago, the ratings were trash. I had thought they learned their lesson.
I want our game, which is EST, to be the early game. The Alabama-Cincy game, which is CST, can be the later game.

The other time the semi's were on NY eve, Jan 1st was a weekday. A lot of people were working some or part of NY eve.
This year Jan 1st is on a Saturday so most companies give people the 31st off.

As long as the game is over before the ball drops on Dick Clark's Rockin Eve, everything will be fine.
December 5th, 2021 at 5:42 PM ^
For sure don't want to miss this year. Keith Jackson is co-hosting with Dick Clark.

looks like 7:30 according to ESPN
December 5th, 2021 at 12:41 PM ^
I like our chances v Georgia. They're gonna get punched in the mouth again, and they're going to get out-coached by the young and hungry Harbaugh Brain Trust.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:06 PM ^
I'd definitely rather go into a game giving Kirby Smart and not Nick Saban a month to prepare for us.
December 5th, 2021 at 5:44 PM ^
Stetson Bennett is nothing to be afraid of (unlike that cat the runs the Bama offense). We can win this game.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
Anybody at the game? What’s the estimate of Michigan fans versus Iowa in the stadium… I heard Iowas folks all week saying they would dominate.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
I’d say it was about 75% Michigan fans.
December 5th, 2021 at 2:06 PM ^
Yeah I’d concur with this.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:42 PM ^
I would say at least two thirds
December 5th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
That's how it was when OSU played Wisc in 2019. There were very few wisc fans.
December 5th, 2021 at 2:15 PM ^
Maybe 1/4 Iowa.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:42 PM ^
Should be a fun matchup. I'm excited.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:46 PM ^
Michigan +7.5
Bama -14
On Fan Duel
December 5th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
That’s absurd if true. I’d take the points for both underdogs all day.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:48 PM ^
Bull crap. Michigan should be number 1. Georgia shouldn't be in it over ND .. Georgia's best win is against Clemson...
Why does Georgia get rewarded after getting spanked.
Beat Georgia!!!
December 5th, 2021 at 1:14 PM ^
Who is ND's best win? Wisconsin? Lol
Also...Georgia went 12-0 and ND went 11-1. So you're punishing them for playing an extra game and losing to one of the best 2 teams in the country (while ND lost at HOME).
Notre Dame doesn't have a win over ANY team currently in the Top 25, lol. NOT ONE!
Georgia has 3 off the top of my head...including Clemson, which is better than ANY team ND beat.
You an ND fan?
December 5th, 2021 at 1:25 PM ^
I don’t disagree with wanting UM #1, but I get it. In the regular season if #3 beats #1, the #3 goes to #1, so I get Bama being there…I don’t like it, but I get their thought. Also UM/Bama for #1 is a coin-flip in my opinion…
As for UGA not deserving to be in, I think that’s a bad take. All week people clamored that ND shouldn’t get in for a week schedule and no sitting idle this weekend. In my mind you can’t penalize UGA that bad for losing their conference championship, even though they got rolled. UGA is better than ND.
I think they have the 4 teams right, where they’re slotted is the argument in my mind. I think UM got hosed, but I’m biased. We’ll beat UGA, so it won’t matter. I like the matchup with UGA better anyhow since their QBs aren’t nearly as mobile, which has been a small chink in our armor this year…GO BLUE
December 5th, 2021 at 12:49 PM ^
We're going to beat Georgia. Then we're going to beat Alabama. Then we're going to tell the SEC to get the fuck off our lawn forever.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:49 PM ^
Georgia is a horrible matchup for us and we have very little shot unless we play our perfect game. Oh well.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Good matchup. Feels like UGa's offense is more limited than Alabama's and part of me doesn't mind letting Alabama deal with all the crap Fickell is going to throw at them with a month to prep. Obviously a tough matchup but UM has played defenses on the vicinity of UGa and done well.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Agreed, all Ohio will rally behind Cincy, including OSU coaches. Would love a Meech - Cincy matchup!
December 5th, 2021 at 1:20 PM ^
I'll be happy to be proven otherwise but I think Georgia is a really tough matchup for us. Their front 7 is maybe the best in the country so we're going to need to pass protect and throw the ball really well. And on the other side, they have a mobile QB that can slow down our pass rush, so we'll need to cover really well. And we get to play them deep in SEC territory. This is a big mountain to climb.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:25 PM ^
Miami is not deep SEC country

It was so obvious Alabama would jump Michigan. Still BS though.
Now I'm glad it happened bc it'll serve as extra motivation (as if our guys need it).
Go Blue

Exciting! Two premier programs that have only played each other twice and not in the last 60 years
December 5th, 2021 at 12:54 PM ^
For reference, UGA’s defense is just barely ranked ahead of Wisconsin’s according to fancy stats. They’re really good but not unbeatable.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:22 PM ^
This Michigan team beats that Michigan team that beat Wisconsin by 10-14 points, IMO.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:25 PM ^
Do the fancystats factor in the SEC title game? Perhaps Georgia looks a little less intimidating on paper after that one, as they did in person.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:31 PM ^
SP+ does factor it in, and after yesterday UGA is still #1, but just barely over Wisconsin (who we put 365 yards and 38 points on, and are way improved from now)
December 5th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
Go Blue. Whip up on Georgia and then ring in the new year!
December 5th, 2021 at 1:00 PM ^
Bring it.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
First impression is this game is going to be a rock fight in between the 20s. Both teams have identities built on running the ball, but running the ball is not going to be easy.
Feels like big plays, special teams, red zone performance and turnovers are going to determine the outcome
December 5th, 2021 at 1:02 PM ^
Georgia was unimpressive yesterday across the board. They’ll be refocused on 12/31 and we’re going to get their best. If this wasn’t the playoff - if this was the Outback Bowl - I’d say Georgia by 14. But Michigan having shown what we’re made of the last few weeks, and having climbed the mountain this far, there’s no team we can’t beat. I really like our chances.
LFG BLUE!

As of this moment, I am seeing in Vegas GA -9 to GA -7. If that's the current line, either one of those...Get on that UM action in Vegas NOW. RIGHT NOW. That line is gonna drop fast. Georgia's QB is mediocre at best, and UM is the best all-around team in the country. 28 days from now, that line will be GA -3 or GA -4.
I've never bet on college football in my entire life, but I am putting $100 on UM right now with whichever online betting site is willing to give me the ridiculous idea that the game should be GA -9.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
Agree. I don’t bet either but I’m tempted with that line
December 5th, 2021 at 2:50 PM ^
Hey, remember how you guaranteed that Iowa wouldn't pass more than 20 times?
December 6th, 2021 at 11:01 AM ^
I can pretty much guarantee you the line is not moving that much. And the fact that you said you've never bet on CFB in your life is probably a good reason to not trust what you just said
December 5th, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
Got my tickets. See you in Miami!
December 5th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
Anyone know if Branstetter and Dierdorf will be covering the CFP?
December 5th, 2021 at 1:11 PM ^
Alabama is the defending national champion beating OSU last year and they just beat the #1 team in the country by two touchdowns. I don't have a problem with them being #1. MI beat a #13 Iowa team that has no offense. No one wants to see a rematch between Alabama and Georgia in the semifinal and would bring low tv ratings and ticket sales. If MI was going to be at #1, they would put Georgia at #4. Either way MI was going to play the Bulldogs. Georgia will be a tough team to beat and will be angry that they lost their conference championship.
In 2014 Ohio State beat #1 Alabama in the semifinal at the Super Dome when no one gave us a shot with a 3rd string quarterback Cardale Jones. That was like us beating the Russian hockey team. I want to see MI and Cincy on Monday, January 11, 2022 in Indy. Screw the SEC and their SEC chants.

Alabama is the defending national champion beating OSU last year
And what does last year have to do with this year?
December 5th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
The point is until some other school wins the National Title besides Alabama, they will always get the benefit of the doubt over everyone else.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Love it!! Can’t wait for the media disrespect to fuel this team!!
Go Blue!!

Just play Joey Galloway and hair gel on a loop. Putting us at #3 was so Galloway.
December 5th, 2021 at 4:21 PM ^
I wonder where Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson put MI.
