The Game is about to be a Top-5 showdown!
November 20th, 2021 at 11:02 PM ^
3rd time in 5 meetings.
Jim gets a lot of shit, but for the third time in the last 5 seasons he has had the team go into the last game of the year with all the goals ahead of us.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:07 PM ^
'well, yeah, but winning the big ten was never one of our goals'

For the third time in five (non-COVID) seasons, The Game is a de facto CFP Quarterfinal.
Imagine Juwan Howard going to three Elite Eights in five years while a significant portion of UM fans wanted him replaced.
The lesson, as always, is that we fans are idiots who don't know shit.

Literally just had a conversation on twitter with a guy that said if Michigan loses to OSU Harbaugh should be fired. And yes, of course he had no reasonable, more successful replacement in mind.
November 21st, 2021 at 9:19 AM ^
Your first mistake was going on twitter
November 21st, 2021 at 10:00 AM ^
There's nothing wrong with pointing out that harbaugh hasn't won the games that matter the most and that a hypothetical replacement with a better system and recruiting would. That said, he's a great coach and it's entirely possible that if he's replaced, we end up with someone who starts losing the games the that don't matter.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
College football results would be easier to explain if someone told me that half the teams play high every week.
How is it possible that a team can score 34 against OSU and get mauled by Utah?
November 20th, 2021 at 10:32 PM ^
Provo is a tough place to play, and Whittingham is a good coach. Utah is always tough, and - like Iowa (only more consistently) - they have a killer year every now and then.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:34 PM ^
Ok but this isn’t even a contest. The #4 team in the country is losing by 31 to a 3-loss team.
Say what you will about Harbaugh, but he very rarely lets this kind of thing happen. And by rarely, I mean never.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:08 PM ^
....how about if I tell you the #7 team in the country got absolutely Madden'ed in the first half by a score of 49-0.
November 21st, 2021 at 10:41 AM ^
I would say, “Jesus. Glad we don’t have to play that team…”
November 21st, 2021 at 8:52 AM ^
Oregon also lost to 3-8 Stanford.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
Watching this game. Utah looks a lot like Michigan. Great downhill running game and a threatening pass rush. They may be our opponent in the Rose Bowl.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:39 PM ^
Opponent will be Oregon, right?
November 20th, 2021 at 10:49 PM ^
Oregon and Utah will likely have a rematch in the PAC 12 championship game, as they are in opposite divisions. I think Utah clinches the south with this win.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:51 PM ^
No, our opponent will be Georgia in the CFP semifinal.
Because we are beating OSU this year.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:59 PM ^
If Michigan beats OSU (and Wisconsin), that will make Michigan a 2 or 3 seed. Are you assuming Georgia loses to Bama and is, therefore, a 2 or 3 seed?
November 20th, 2021 at 11:28 PM ^
I don't know. I'm pretty high right now.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:00 PM ^
Fuck yes we are
November 20th, 2021 at 11:00 PM ^
Not that I think we're winning the next two games, but if we did I think we'd wind up higher than fourth.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:03 PM ^
If we win the B1G, it'll probably be
1. GA
2. MICH
3. CINCI
4. OSU/AL
don't forget that AL have at least one more loss coming.
We would get Cinci
November 20th, 2021 at 11:11 PM ^
Would love the play the fighting fickels!!! Cincy is a fraud, they don't belong in the discussion. Look at their strength of schedule, IMG would be a tougher opponent than half the teams the went UNDEFEATED against.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:22 PM ^
We're not winning all of this, but two-loss Bama or two-loss... uh, that other team... probably don't stay ahead of 1-loss Notre Dame or even 1-loss Big 12 champion if either Oklahoma or Oklahoma State win out. Obviously, those two teams would be leading candidates to be the first two-loss teams to make it, but there are still some teams out there that they'd need to claw past.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:27 PM ^
Agreed…we are winning this year. It has to be this year. Next year we won’t have these two elite edge rushers and they will be the difference in the game.
If something happens and we lose to OSU (crazier things have happened) I wonder, if the officials don’t bend us over in East Lansing and we were allowed to win the game, would we still be a playoff team (assuming Georgia beats Alabama)? We would probably be #2 in the country with no losses right now. - If so, nice jobs B10. You had a chance to get two teams in but because you f*cked us over, you’ll only get one. I know it doesn’t matter now, but the screw job against MSU might cost the conference a lot of money.
November 21st, 2021 at 12:01 AM ^
We didn’t know before the season started that Ojabo would be a superstar pass rusher. We thought our D overall would be a sieve. It’s much too early to write off next year’s.
November 21st, 2021 at 7:30 AM ^
Either Oregon or Utah. Depends on who wins the PAC-12 championship.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:37 PM ^
Provo might be a hard place to play, but I'm not sure how relevant that is, since that's where BYU is. Utah is in Salt Lake City.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:00 PM ^
How can you not see the connection? Unbelievable.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:03 PM ^
Salt Lake City. BYU plays in Provo. The rest of your post is solid.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:29 PM ^
Provo is BYU. Utah plays in SLC. Still the Utah home crowd really gets behind their team and makes a lot of noise all game long.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:57 PM ^
(Edit: beaten to the punch about Utah geography.)
November 21st, 2021 at 12:13 AM ^
Utah is a good team.
Wittingham has balls too.
Calling timeout to force Oregon to punt with 20 seconds and he gets a run back TD!
November 21st, 2021 at 12:43 AM ^
It’s Salt Lake City, not Provo. You’re thinking of BYU. Two completely different worlds in Utah.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:44 PM ^
OSU’s defense was a mess at the start of the season. They lost that game to Oregon because they had 1 turnover (to Oregon’s 0) and went 2/5 on 4th down. That’s like a -4 turnover margin. We really need to win the turnover battle (looking at you sack-strip master Ojabo).
November 20th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
Gonna guess the top 5 will be:
Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Cincinnati, Michigan.
So 2 vs 5 next week, with GameDay in Ann Arbor.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:30 PM ^
The CFP selection committee wants a two loss Bama in the playoffs and as a result will NOT drop them below # 2. As much as I hate to say it, they have proven their affinity for the SEC
November 20th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
If UGA beats Bama, Bama is out. No 2-loss team is getting into the playoffs.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:43 PM ^
Hoo boy, that's wrong
November 20th, 2021 at 11:00 PM ^
I think there is still quite a bit of football to negotiate. Bama could definitely get back in with some weird losses by other teams, but then so could Oklahoma State.
November 21st, 2021 at 12:39 AM ^
In 2016, Ohio State lost two games, finished second in the B1G East... and was the #3-seed in the CFP.
November 21st, 2021 at 9:17 AM ^
Penn State was their only regular season loss. PSU was the 2-loss team, losing to Pitt and Michigan.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:57 PM ^
I don't care what their record is, Cincinnati has no business being ranked in the top 5. Maybe top 10.
Ranking should be Georgia, OSU, Alabama, and Michigan, in that order. In fact, we should just skip the games next week, and the championship games, and send those teams to the playoffs.
November 20th, 2021 at 11:14 PM ^
You are so RIGHT! Their SOS is a travesty. Put them in the B1G west or east and they would end up middle of the pack at best.
November 21st, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
So who should be 5?
November 20th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
38-7.
we will be CFP #5 on tuesday night.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:46 PM ^
Have to believe OSU will be #2.
Seems like a big game.
November 20th, 2021 at 10:28 PM ^
Utah, who lost to Oregon State by 8, who beat Washington by only 3, whom we beat by 21. So that means we should have, like, a 70 point advantage against OSU?
November 20th, 2021 at 10:30 PM ^
That sounds about right
lol
