I don't care all that much but honestly that's freaking sweet. I like the nostalgic feel of them. I just got goosebumps thinking about UM kicking msu's ass, so there is that.
October 29th, 2021 at 10:15 AM ^
I could be wrong but it sounds like you care.
October 29th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
To be fair, he did qualify it with ‘all that much’
October 29th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
haha yeah I guess I do for this game! I should say I don't normally. I always think the maize and blue look pretty good no matter the combination.
For some reason though it just makes me think of my childhood with those maize pants on the aways.

Henne looks especially good in them
October 29th, 2021 at 10:43 AM ^
In the 13 years since that game, I don't know if anyone else ever noticed his faceplant on his way to the tunnel.
October 29th, 2021 at 7:42 PM ^
I remember spotting it in real time back in 07. What I never realized until just now is that he may have tripped over the Sparty equipment person standing by the goalpost.

I think it was pretty extensively featured in the mgo comments at the time, not to mention IMHO one of Brian's best columns: https://mgoblog.com/content/nails

On Henne being a robot:
"He was ruthless, precise, and busy calculating digits of pi deep into the millions. He has a heart of nails and lungs made from old tires; his hair consists of pipe cleaners cropped short and his bones are discarded pipes. You have to whack him in just the right spot at just the right time to get his late-model Soviet guidance chip to seat itself in his shoddy southeast Asian motherboard."
Classic Brian

If true, I’m fine with this. Contrast-wise it makes more sense at Penn State, but the last (and only) time we wore these maize pants at PSU the game was a disaster. I’m not a huge fan of these particular maize pants with the white jerseys, but it makes sense to do this at least occasionally and at Michigan State is a sensible venue for both aesthetic and rivalry reasons.

Maize pants/white jersey >>>all white the kids might even call it a throw back.
Blue pants/white jersey also>>> all white just to prove I'm not a "down in front" geriatric
October 29th, 2021 at 11:44 AM ^
Also not a "down in front" geriatric, but I dig the all white look. It's clean. It's also a throwback as they wore these in parts of the 70s. I understand if people like the maize but the all-white's ain't bad.
October 29th, 2021 at 12:29 PM ^
What I'm surprised no one is discussing is the pants themselves. They have really moved to something like tights. Takes my old eyes a little while to adjust.
I don't get too invested in the uniforms, but I do like that they are resisting commercializing heck out of them, and avoiding looking gimmicky. Aesthetics often remain a domain where differences don't reside in too much deep thought. But someone at the helm is making sound decisions.

But it’s by far what we’ve won the most away games in our history. I will be honest I haven’t been a fan of all kinds of alternate uni’s since the 2011 @MSU bumblebee game. I didn’t mind consistently wearing the all whites with a stripe, but having all these change ups seems a little silly to me, I say just let that be Oregon’s thing…I respect Bama and PSU for staying true, and I like when we do too, and Maize pants has always been what I remember a lot of Michigan road victories in.

Good.

Hey, that's pretty cool!

“If ]V[AIZING your pants is cool, consider us Miles Davis”
October 29th, 2021 at 10:02 AM ^
I like white, blue, and maize. Just thankful no bumblebees. Win the game!
October 29th, 2021 at 10:04 AM ^
MSU is wearing all green, so the white on maize probably pops a little better as opposed to the blue pants.
I just want a freakin W.
October 29th, 2021 at 11:08 AM ^
If true about MSU's jerseys, the all white is an absolute no. That would look like their spring game. HARD PASS.
October 29th, 2021 at 11:30 AM ^
Yeah, I would assume this is why. If they're walking vomit, let's brighten things up a bit.
October 29th, 2021 at 1:32 PM ^
I don't know why Boise State got in trouble for wearing all blue on a blue field, while other teams can wear all green on a green field without anybody complaining.
October 29th, 2021 at 10:06 AM ^
Anyone else would like the maize outline on the numbers to return as well?
I do, I love when numbers pop a little.
October 29th, 2021 at 11:20 AM ^
I feel like this question is almost completely dictated by when you became a fan. For me, it was the late 80s and early 90s, so no border, just blue numbers with solid maize (not highlighter) pants is the ultimate road uniform.
October 29th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
I grew up with and loved the 80s-early 90s road uniforms, and when they changed them in 97 I was initially resistant. However, I grew to love them, and would appreciate a return to some variation on that look. Yes, it helps that Michigan saw the highest level of success in my lifetime in those uniforms; it also helps that they looked good on the players.
October 29th, 2021 at 7:57 PM ^
Same here, but I grew to like them a lot when I saw us at MSU and PSU in 1997. Those road unis are definitely an era unto themselves.
October 29th, 2021 at 12:58 PM ^
NO
that reduces the blue and makes them thinner
Solid numbers only please
October 29th, 2021 at 10:14 AM ^
I am a huge fan of the all white, no maize border on numbers. The new road whites are way cooler than the maize pants on the road. and it makes all the yellow pants the buckeyes collect stupider.
October 29th, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
Next to their best-in-class home uniform, Michigan's road uniforms seem like degrees of imperfect.
If the maize pants make people happy, great. They'll also stand out against Sparty green.
When I see them I think of all the road atrocities of the past twenty years. For whatever reason I don't think of the Woodson interception in the '90s (which seems like the go-to counterpoint on this site).

Classic look. Beat Sparty !

Guess I need to find some Maize sweats to go with my White Kovacks jersey...
October 29th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
I wanted the Blue pants!
October 29th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
i liked both the white pants and the blue pants... but I grew up with the maize pants on the road uniforms, so I am happy to see them back
October 29th, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
yeah theyre all sharp looks. maize works. nothing beats the all blue but thats home
October 29th, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
Nice!
I honestly like all combos of our road unis. Nothing can compare to our home set but the newer road whites with the simple blue numbers and no outlines are great.
Here’s to a 2003esq drubbing!
October 29th, 2021 at 11:14 AM ^
I prefer the white pants in general. But more specifically, we've done quite well wearing them in East Lansing so the slightly superstitious part of me doesn't like changing it up for this game.
October 29th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
Count me as unhappy. The Blue pants looked great, and formidable. Maize pants, less. I don't get it why they only wore them once.
October 29th, 2021 at 11:17 AM ^
You say blah-blah-pants-blah-blah, and I still hear one thing: Beat State.
October 29th, 2021 at 11:34 AM ^
I’m Eastside Maize and I approve this message!〽️

I really dislike the maize pants. I have for nearly 50 years.
