Slightly OT: Ohio screws up new license plate design
Off topic just before the second half of the season. I promise not to do any more, but this is too good to pass up.

How do you fuck that up?

Forget it, Jake. It's Ohio.

It was the last thing the guy needed to finish up before he left Ohio.

Not sure how making fun of that awful state could be considered OT ?

been a UM fan for 52 years. born and raised in Ohio. left for the Army but I came back here to Ohio. i live in Southeastern part of Ohio. lots to do here. I do however despise the city of columbus. i hate driving through it and except for an occasional VA hospital visit i avoid columbus at all costs. screw OSU and columbus but love it where i live. it has been hell dealing with OSU fans. UM needs a win against them so they will shut up

I never would’ve known it was wrong. I thought the wings were in the front of the plane, but I’m from Ohio so maybe they were just marketing to their citizens.

That was a great retort from North Carolina!

Always thinking they're more than they are. Poor little ohio..... they just can't get over their inferiority complex.

The pissing match between Ohio and NC for the “birthplace of aviation” title is hilarious. I don’t know anyone that would get worked up over it. The word Ohio on it looks like a five year old wrote it, but overall I don’t think it’s too bad. It ties in the urban and rural aspect of the state so everyone feels included. Not everyone can have beautiful lakes like you guys so we gotta settle for fields and cities haha.

Colorado and New Mexico are at each others’ throats about who has the better chili pepper-themed license plate, so not totally unprecedented.
October 23rd, 2021 at 5:55 AM ^
Kentucky, Illinois and even Indiana (???) get into it every once in awhile as regards who has the most claim to Abraham Lincoln. It is kind of funny as an outside observer.
Ohio's license plates are getting worse and worse over the years, IMO. I did like the red, white and blue (horizontal from top to bottom) with the cursive Ohio that was predominant in the early 2010s. No Ohio license plates since then, they're all awful.
My top 3 license plates nationwide are New Mexico, California and Colorado.

The other funny thing with Indiana and Kentucky is that people in indiana will often label “backwards” cities in their own state by adding “tucky” to the end (Lebtucky, Plaintucky, etc). All good spirited but it is hilarious the things that are disputed by states

People in Michigan say “Taylortucky” and “Hazeltucky” for Taylor and Hazel Park. I’ve heard those for years.

Utah's Delicate Arch plate would like a word.

Always good to see a self aware, rational Buckeye. Regardless of who's "wright" on this argument, the museum in Dayton is awesome and is a must see for anyone who's interested in U.S. aviation history.

I agree. I took my dad, who was a WWII air combat veteran, and every airplane from that era brought out a story. Wish we’d gone again. If you have a friend or family member with a connection to military aviation (or especially if you do), I highly recommend it.

North Carolina claims "First In Flight". That's factually accurate. The first flight was in North Carolina.. Ohio is just trying to make itself relevant (good luck with that).

...and the U of M video for the all Michigan Apollo crew shows the spacecraft orbiting in the WRONG direction around the Earth.

Best PSA ever!
No, no they filmed the PSA upside down, a little known fact.
October 23rd, 2021 at 10:05 AM ^
Always an opportunity to point out the FIRST all Michigan NASA crew - Gemini 4. Commanded by the great Jim McDivitt with his classmate Ed White who was the first American spacewalker.
McDivitt went on to command Apollo 9 with Dave Scott as the command module pilot.. Of course Ed White died in the tragic Apollo 1 fire.
McDivitt and Scott are still living. Michigan Athletics needs to bring them to a game as Veterans of The Game while they still can.
October 23rd, 2021 at 10:16 AM ^
That is a great idea, to bring them to a game! Someone should make that happen! They should also make a PSA of that...

First rule of license plates is always leave design and execution to the people in the penitentiary. Clearly they entrusted this one to the football team in the state capital.

I think this is better

This is what an Ohio plate should look like

That's what a vandalized car looks like.
October 23rd, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
It have been messed up because whomever was assigned the task go only rudimentary background info and made assumptions based on what they believe an airplane should look like.
Most civil aircraft have the elevators at the rear and the artist made that mistake. Glen Curtiss, another pioneer in flight deserves credit for popularizing that archtype: engine in front (puller), wings, fuselage then tail fin and elevators. He and the Wright brothers found a protracted level battle over the aileron concept. The Wrights championed wing warping (that is how the original Flyer worked) rather than the "flap" aileron idea. Ultimately, ailerons won out - more effective, practical and did not stress the wing structure.

It's a miracle that East German Judge hasn't photoshopped a Yeti cooler with wings.

Looks like you spoke it into existence.
October 23rd, 2021 at 10:54 AM ^
C'mon , at least they spelled Ohio correctly .
October 23rd, 2021 at 11:40 AM ^
The design of that plate is so hideous that I would move to another state to avoid putting it on my car.
October 23rd, 2021 at 5:14 PM ^
I’m sure Ohio has its share of nice people and nice areas but fuck Ohio state and all their fans.
