How many Big 10 teams would be undefeated if they played Michigan‘s current schedule?
I’m try to temper my expectations for this season and was wondering how many of the 13 other teams would be undefeated if they played Michigan’s schedule to this point.
For Rutgers/Wisconsin, just assume they play each other.
I would figure these teams would be in the same current spot as Michigan at 5-0:
- Ohio State
- Penn State
- Iowa
- Wisconsin (they beat Rutgers head to head)
- Michigan State
- Maryland
any team I’m missing or any of which you disagree?

Wisconsin would be at best 4-1 because they lost to Michigan.
But perhaps I'm not understanding some team substitution here
October 7th, 2021 at 3:21 PM ^
No, you don't get it. Wisconsin would have beaten Wisconsin, because Wisconsin wins that matchup even if Wisconsin loses.
October 7th, 2021 at 3:26 PM ^
so they'd actually be 1-1 after they beat themselves....
hey..... that's .500!
October 7th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
No way. Wisconsin's D would smother Wisconsin.
October 7th, 2021 at 6:18 PM ^
So how do you play with yourself???
October 7th, 2021 at 6:44 PM ^
That is why this question is preposterous. Maybe the question should be which of the undefeated teams would still be undefeated if they played Michigan's schedule?

THAT is why the question is preposterous?

So how do you play with yourself???
Well, I usually begin by putting on some soft rock, lighting a few scented candles, grabbing a big bottle of lotion and overtaking ass.

If you shake it more than 3 times.

Asking for a friend?
October 7th, 2021 at 3:32 PM ^
How is Wisconsin v Wisconsin being played? Two teams of clones on a neutral field? Is the one subbing for Michigan a clone team playing with a road disadvantage? Will the fans root for both teams?
October 7th, 2021 at 3:35 PM ^
They would play against 11 clones of Michael Barrett
October 7th, 2021 at 4:46 PM ^
Not old yet
October 7th, 2021 at 6:49 PM ^
Also, they would definitely overtake their own ass(es).
October 7th, 2021 at 7:58 PM ^
My friend plays Counterstrike and he has insider information that no matter what team he played for through that part of the schedule, Corum's Heisman campaign is probably foiled unless Michael Barrett starts throwing to him immediately!
Please correct me if I'm not properly understanding the question.
October 8th, 2021 at 12:06 AM ^
What if they were mini-Michael Barretts against coach Ditka?
October 7th, 2021 at 3:56 PM ^
Not clones but a time machine.
Although that does seem to give an advantage to the team from the future because they'll know Wisconsin's game plan.
October 7th, 2021 at 4:06 PM ^
It’s B1G football; nobody needs to go to the future to figure out Wisconsin’s game plan. But I do like the way you think.
October 7th, 2021 at 4:17 PM ^
I think it's more of a Tenet situation, where we play forwards and Barret is moving backwards. But also forwards.
October 7th, 2021 at 6:07 PM ^
Has Wisconsin's gameplan changed since Barry Alvarez's first year?
October 7th, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
If Michigan and Wisconsin switch schedules, does that put the game between the two in Ann Arbor?
October 7th, 2021 at 2:39 PM ^
I don't know if Wisconsin has the offensive firepower to beat Wisconsin.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:59 PM ^
What if I told you Michael Barrett was the offensive coordinator....for both Wisconsins.
Mind blown
October 7th, 2021 at 6:43 PM ^
Watching their O is painful, can Michael bear it??
October 7th, 2021 at 2:39 PM ^
Not sure how Wisconsin would be 5-0...
In this hypothetical, are they playing Michigan or themselves for their fifth game? Seems like that would be a loss or a tie.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:40 PM ^
How could Wisconsin be undefeated? they would still have to play us.
i guess i'm missing something....
October 7th, 2021 at 2:40 PM ^
How many teams would have BURIED Wisconsin on the road?
(remove Penn State)
October 7th, 2021 at 5:28 PM ^
I think quite a few teams are going to bury them. Wiscy will be fighting for bowl eligibility this year.
October 8th, 2021 at 3:22 AM ^
Did you miss where PSU barely beat Wisconsin on the road?
October 7th, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
If we sub Wisconsin out for a team of equal value in SP+ or Vegas rankings then I think the only teams we can say for certain are undefeated are Ohio State, Penn State, and Iowa. Iowa I'm not for sure sold on because they would be an underdog at Wisconsin right now.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:51 PM ^
Why do you think Iowa would be an underdog against UW, even in Madison? At this point, 1-3 Wisconsin is nationally known to have no offense and an injured QB. Never mind that they lost two close games to top 10 teams - they just got rolled at home and its fresh in the nations collective mind. I'd think that would have more weight considering their overall record than anything else...
October 7th, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
Iowa I'm not for sure sold on because they would be an underdog at Wisconsin right now.
So you're saying that an unranked 1-3 team that just got beaten soundly 38-17 in its own stadium by the #9 team in the country would still be favored over the undefeated and #3 ranked team in the country.
October 7th, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
Wisconsin is10th in SP+ and ahead of Iowa. SP+ and Vegas are notoriously close in lines (Vegas casinos admit they adjust for SP+), so yes, on a neutral field and at Wisconsin, Wisconsin would be favored over Iowa.
Most of Iowa's biggest margins are from turnovers which are largely considered random and unsustainable. Their offense is poop.
October 7th, 2021 at 5:11 PM ^
SP+ has Wisconsin 20 points better than Illinois on Saturday. The spread is 10.5.
October 7th, 2021 at 8:08 PM ^
I wish we played against Iowa this year...
October 7th, 2021 at 3:26 PM ^
Iowa would be a Vegas double digit favorite on the road against Wisconsin right now.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
how many of the 13 other teams would be undefeated if they played Michigan’s schedule to this point.
four
October 7th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
four
check that; five.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
So If Wisconsin played itself you give them the win?
October 7th, 2021 at 2:58 PM ^
I referenced poorly above. I wanted to say to assume Wisconsin and Rutgers only play 4 total games, with their 4th game against each other. So WMU, UW, NI and then each other.
October 7th, 2021 at 3:12 PM ^
Got it I believe Wisconsin would figure out a way to lose a game in that stretch. That offense is brutal.
October 7th, 2021 at 7:57 PM ^
October 7th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
I disagree with Maryland for sure, and maybe Wisconsin. I'm not even 100% sold that Maryland would only have one loss against our current schedule.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
I'd take Maryland off that list.
With the "turtle-coaster", they are very liable to beat anybody if they play them in Game 1 or 2 of the season.
Get to Game 4 or 5 of the season though? That's when the free-fall begins.
I'd guess they would have beat Washington by FIFTY, but lost to Wisconsin by FOURTY.
October 7th, 2021 at 2:47 PM ^
So your take is that our schedule hasn't been so hard because it seems Washington and Wisconsin aren't actually good. And a bunch of other teams would be undefeated if they had played the same teams we have. OK, whatever. And if worms had machine guns, they wouldn't be afraid of birds.
Just because the thought crossed your mind does not mean you need to post it.
