Cornelius Johnson TD made top 5 speed for week 3.
Nice to see one of the good guys make this list two weeks in a row! I could get used to this.

No Andrew Vastardis?
FAKE NEWS!!!
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
ya, you would think the guy out in front blocking would have to be faster, right?
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:47 PM ^
Max speed from ball carriers. Need to hand Andrew the ball next week. I envision a play where he pulls, pancakes his dude, loops back for the handoff and then catches up to the other blockers running in a spiral pattern until he reaches paydirt.

I will wage this campaign until MGoBlog relents. We are now #beefinspace.
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:00 PM ^
I love that this list exists. Even moreso with UM players checking in on it.
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:11 PM ^
I like that our speed is showing up in that space too.
September 22nd, 2021 at 9:38 PM ^
What’s crazy is Henning and Wilson are most likely faster. Michigan finally does have some elite speed.
September 25th, 2021 at 12:47 AM ^
This is ludicrous speed.
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:06 PM ^
I remember watching and thinking about how is stride just looked so clean and fast. More natural to me than a similar play that DPJ had against msu before his paul bunyan pose (i believe). DPJ to me always looked like a strained runner. not all that unlike breaston. Yes, all fast, but... Johnson's run just looked strong and fast and cleaner. Watched it a few times to see if I was just amazed that we had a WR running that clear. No clue who was/is actually faster, but the motion was more fluid - similar to a pitcher who throws with great form at 94-5, vs a 100 mph fastball from someone with an awkward or jerky motion
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:10 PM ^
Pfft, I can go way faster than that in my car. AND I drive a jeep, which is actually less aerodynamic than most shellfish...
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:49 PM ^
Currently going 25. What’s the big deal?
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Promising signs. It really hurts losing Bell; Johnson emerging into a gamebreaker would be huge. This is nice to see.
September 22nd, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
We have multiple game-breakers now for the first time since I can't remember when.
CJ's speed was 0.3mph faster than Corum's previous week, which topped that list.
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:18 PM ^
Bell completes quite a dangerous offense right now. Just sucks.
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:11 PM ^
Losing bell was huge. If bell plays this team would be ridiculous good with CJ emerging. Let's hope Baldwin comes on as well
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
I wonder where Corum, Henning and Edwards checked in at? Each got a full head of steam and were running flat out. When each is at their top speed, I would not have expected Johnson to out run any of the three listed. I wonder how much of this is impacted by camera angle and pure north/south direction of the runner?
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:15 PM ^
Corum was at 22.1 MPH in Week 2, he had the fastest Max Speed in that week!
September 22nd, 2021 at 10:59 PM ^
WR should be faster than RB. After all they aren't taking abuse and hits and don't need to bulk up. That's great for a RB. Fastest RB I've seen here before him was Allen Jefferson and wonder if Corum is faster.
September 22nd, 2021 at 11:35 PM ^
Allen Jefferson—that’s a good call. Boles was also a speedster. But honestly, the fastest was probably Wheatley.
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:15 PM ^
I choose to believe the Arkansas result was wind aided and thus not official.

Animals is a Pink Floyd album that doesn't get its just due. I always liked the song Sheep.

Pigs in Space?
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:15 PM ^
Hilarious!
Pigs (or Hogs) in Space should be a new metric for OLs blocking downfield.
September 22nd, 2021 at 1:42 PM ^
Am I right that Roman Wilson is the fastest player on the team? It'd be great to see him break one and show that speed. could he reach 23mph?
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
Yeah, he's fast. He's so fast that I don't know if Cade can throw the ball fast enough to catch up to him.
Can you do that, Cade? Prove it!!!
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:14 PM ^
Was it in space?
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:22 PM ^
No. Ann Arbor. And frankly, that would be a very unimpressive speed in space.
September 22nd, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
Speed in space!?
September 22nd, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
I love seeing Michigan names in this list.
Hope AJ and Roman get their chances, too.
BTW, if you needed any more appreciation for Carl Lewis’s and Usain Bolt’s greatness, they’ve both had stretches in the Olympics where they’ve crested 28 mph.
September 22nd, 2021 at 8:49 PM ^
Obviously 28 mph is fast, but they weren't wearing pads and running on turf with cleats while carrying a ball.
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:13 PM ^
Great stuff. Was not to hear Cornelius said it was a dream of his to catch a long td pass in the Big House in front of 100 K plus fans. Thanks for sharing this impressive speed detail for top 5 speed plays.
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:16 PM ^
Speed in space
September 22nd, 2021 at 6:44 PM ^
He was HAULING on that. He definitely displayed a level of explosiveness I had not seen from him. Seth proclaiming him a Junior Hemingway facsimile makes sense. CJ is Hemingway but fast IMO.
September 22nd, 2021 at 7:45 PM ^
I feel the need…the need for speed!!

Devin Gardner had something to say about CJs two long passes. The first down the seam had CJ with his shoulders turned to see Cade. This made him a step slower messing up the timing on the throw which was long and CJs fault.
A Coach must have got to him because his double move burner turned out different. His head is down and he sprints, then moves and moves, DB pauses to react and Johnson puts his head down and sprints with the burners on! Blows off the db keeping his head down and instead of looking back at the QB he looks up over his shoulder, ball is there! Devin called it "text book"
That is the difference coaching makes.
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:01 AM ^
Devin *loved* that one. Cornelius put his head down and accelerated like a rocket sled. It was beautiful to watch.
