Sam Webb Crystal Ball's 2022 5 Star OT Josh Conerly Jr. to Michigan
Conerly is from the state of Washington and just visited for the game vs Washington. Webb entered a CB with a confidence level of 6 last night, following Steve Lorenz doing the same on Wednesday. Not sure what Conerly's timeline is but the main competition was thought to be USC and Washington, so fingers crossed this start progressing quickly on this front.

Well USC and Washington you say? MrBurnsExcellent.gif

Washington: the gift that keeps on giving.
September 17th, 2021 at 12:24 PM ^
I presume the UW coaches keep sending him the exact same text, day after day and week after week.

Please no more dong punches?

EJ Holland has a futurecast in on rivals for him too.
September 17th, 2021 at 12:51 PM ^
I take EJ with a grain of salt. I appreciate his love of Michigan but he is much too close to being a pathological homer for my liking. And sadly, Sam seems to be heading in that direction as well.
I do, very much, hope they are correct.

Michigan's strategy to feed the ball to Haskins and Corum continually against Washington and overall excellent OL play probably looked good to a 5* OT recruit!
September 17th, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
but we didnt throw the ball....i kid of course!! Buckle Up!!
September 17th, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
This is great! Really excited they are making the most out of the under the lights game. The atmosphere looked the best I’ve seen for a Michigan game.
I do have concerns of the passing game. I think both these things can be true. Good news is they have two weeks to try to work on the passing game and get some live reps. I believe we’ll need a passing game to win in Madison.

I loved how we mauled UW into submission last week, especially when they had some very solid DBs.
However, if we have a receiver problem with the talent that Gattis has assembled and is personally leading, then Gattis should start to spend some extra time on his interview skills. He's basically the only coach on the team that has been able to acquire and develop his talent for the last 3 years.

I was one of those people who thought this game was almost a certain loss back before the season.
Looks like Michigan came out with two victories against Washington. Love it!
September 17th, 2021 at 10:30 AM ^
I think someone posted in one of the ballz threads yesterday that Conerly is announcing at the end of the month.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:43 AM ^
I thought Conerly said he was planning to announce at one of the all american games?
September 17th, 2021 at 11:50 AM ^
Yea Conerly has said signing day or All-America game. It is possible he silents earlier than that.
Kenneth Grant should be announcing by the end of the month, and Damani Dent will be announcing Oct. 10. Deone Walker supposedly may silent soon before announcing his choice later this year.

I'm good at reading lips and I'm pretty sure he says "Outstanding job there gentlemen. Keep up the good work."
September 17th, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
I watched Rex and Rob Ryan on TV a couple years back. Rex has definitely gotten used to public speaking and being on TV. Rob? Rob was like a caveman, putting it bluntly. It was interesting, to say the least.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
Hope he drops sooner than later. Recruiting is all about momentum…and everyone wants to play with the biggest guy on the block, opposed to against. Get em’ Jim and others will follow
September 17th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
Conerly's film is insane. Athletic, carries his weight well, can pull, and pancakes basically everyone in his path
September 17th, 2021 at 11:52 AM ^
He is the same size as Jalen Mayfield and has a similar basketball background. But he looks much meaner and more polished on film. Donkey-hating, high floor Jalen Mayfield is why he's a true 5* and our top OL priority.
September 17th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
Favorite non-pancake highlight: at the 1:15 mark of his junior season highlight reel, Conerly is combo blocking a DL with his LG. He then recognizes that another DL has been sent on a stunt outside of that block. He comes off his block to eliminate the stunting DL. +2.
September 17th, 2021 at 2:32 PM ^
Wow. I just watched his junior highlights on 24/7 and it's basically just 6 straight minutes of him absolutely destroying people, and he comes flying off the edge on his pulls. 100% a 5* prospect.
Please don't play with our emotions, Josh! Would absolutely love to land this kid.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
If you watched that game and didn’t want to play OL for us…
September 17th, 2021 at 10:34 AM ^
If Michigan is able to flip Domani and reel in Conerly.....sheesh!
September 17th, 2021 at 10:35 AM ^
Having two 5*s would be a nice thing. We can have nice things?
September 17th, 2021 at 5:38 PM ^
Three would be even better!
September 17th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
So..... Grant, Conerly, Walker, Josephs, and probably Jackson, maybe Shepart or Nolen, maybe Dent. This new staff is crushing it...time for the naysayers to acknowledge it.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:45 AM ^
Winning helps.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
Winning makes recruiting all better. You can have the best recruiters in the world, but unless your paying premium you need to win. Michigan beat Washington and kids took notice. Simple as that.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
Beat Ohio
September 17th, 2021 at 1:41 PM ^
can we wait until they actually Commit before we acknowledge them "crushing it" ?
2 games won against poor teams, the atmosphere was outstanding, possibly the best game day atmosphere for a night game ever.
But we haven't beat anyone yet as impressive as the last 2 games are we need to pump the breaks a bit.
September 17th, 2021 at 2:14 PM ^
If Michigan somehow lands Will Johnson, Domani Jackson, Walter Nolen, and Josh Conerly, are we comfortable saying that is the best recruiting class Michigan has ever had? Add in players like Kenneth Grant, Joshua Josephs. What a defensive class, followed by what I thought was our best offensive class in a long time.
September 17th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
It would probably be right up there with that '98 class (Henson, Terrell, Walker, Fargas, etc.), and that class was insane. Michigan had like 3 top 10 players and 5 top 25 players or something from that class.
I don't recall the last time Michigan pulled in 4, 5* prospects, but it probably would have been that one if the star ranking system existed then.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:45 AM ^
Just keep winning and they will come!
Go Blue!!
September 17th, 2021 at 5:10 PM ^
If you build it, they will come.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
It's so crazy that when Harbaugh arrived, our o-line depth was atrocious, and our best player (Mason Cole) was playing tackle instead of center because we simply didn't have the dudes to let him play his natural position. And now we're in a spot where we've reloaded since losing 4 or 5 guys off the same line to the NFL. And we've got a 5 star tackle potentially committing on the horizon. Gotta love the work this staff is doing right now
September 17th, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
The big schools in the midwest did a good job of blocking Drevno in getting the recruits we needed. Warinner (and Frey) corrected it. Now our OL is becoming the program strength again.
September 18th, 2021 at 1:26 AM ^
Drevno was that bad huh? How’s he get the OC job I really just don’t get what the appeal was with him.
September 17th, 2021 at 10:59 AM ^
and
Sam is usually right about this stuff.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
Has anyone interviewed Sam's gut to see how it's feeling?
September 17th, 2021 at 11:03 AM ^
Just keep winning.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:06 AM ^
He told Harbaugh before the game how much he hates pass blocking.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
Underrated
September 17th, 2021 at 11:07 AM ^
Now I'm worried about USC and their recruiting heft should they land the mighty Frames Janklin as HC
September 17th, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
I've heard he only recruits players with hot moms.
September 17th, 2021 at 11:53 AM ^
stunned to find out he had success at vandy
