Jim Harbaugh: ‘We’ll be seeing more of Donovan Edwards’
Michigan's backfield is loaded with talent.
September 7th, 2021 at 5:45 PM ^
Is it weird that I quietly said “no” to myself here? I just don’t want to see any less of Haskins/Corum
EDIT: Looks like Harbaugh is just saying they’ll continue to play him, which duh
September 7th, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
People are worried about a Zach Charbonnet transfer situation, but if the question is "Will you play Donovan Edwards more?" I'm pretty sure the Steve Rodgers/Endgame meme "No, I don't think I will" is 100% the wrong answer.
September 7th, 2021 at 10:09 PM ^
I know it was Western, but give me more Corum and Edwards and less Haskins. Haskins is good / above average B10, but lacks any quality approaching elite status.
Now Corum and Edwards showed explosion, quickness, stop start, speed that was just in a different category than Haskins. Haskins is solid and a good back, but Corum and Edwards could be Great!!!
September 7th, 2021 at 10:22 PM ^
Disagree. This game was against Western, not MSU, Wisc or Penn St. You need Haskins just as much as Corum, for Corum to continue his success.
September 8th, 2021 at 8:41 AM ^
Are you joking? Haskins sets the tone, and has more than proven his importance to this teams offense.
September 8th, 2021 at 8:59 AM ^
"Haskins sets the tone, and has more than proven his importance to this team's offense"....I haven't seen a potent offense or an effective running game from Michigan since Haskins has been here. So I don't know what you mean by him "setting a tone". Is it of value to "set a tone" if the offense you are a part of isn't very effective or that your running game isn't effective?
Haskins is a solid back. He certainly seems to be the most physical of the backs. I just don't think he has the same talent as Corum and Edwards athletically. I think Corum and Edwards can do things....can bring more to the table...than what Haskins does. Not crapping on the guy. He plays hard. Runs hard. But I think he has way more limits than what Corum and Edwards do. Thus, why I personally would love to see more of Corum and Edwards.
September 8th, 2021 at 9:15 AM ^
I understand what your getting at, but against really stout defenses that dominate our OL and are immediately in the backfield, you will want Haskins. He will carry a guy or 2 to get back to the line of scrimmage or churn out 2 yards.
Edwards looks like he will be a heisman tropy candidate/leader in 2 years. He already displayed he is a tough runner just like Haskins at this early stage, and he has wheels. Just needs the game to slow down a little, and to just gain experience.
September 8th, 2021 at 9:21 AM ^
Totally agree. Haskins has a role for sure. I’m not saying I don’t want Haskins to play. I’m just saying I would love to see more of “the pie” given to Corum and Edwards than to Haskins.

I said during the game that I thought a RB wearing #7 looked funny and all the blue hairs snapped at me about Chris Floyd
September 7th, 2021 at 5:54 PM ^
Leonard Fournette begs to differ
September 7th, 2021 at 6:12 PM ^
Wait, I remember Chris Floyd, am I a blue hair?
September 7th, 2021 at 6:16 PM ^
Does the hair on your balls go blue, too?
September 7th, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
Blue hairs, purple helmets, it's a slippery slope.
GET OFF MY LAWN!
September 7th, 2021 at 7:32 PM ^
Dude - you stole my avatar. Which of course I stole from someone online so it’s all good. I will seek out new things now
September 7th, 2021 at 7:44 PM ^
Nope
i will
September 7th, 2021 at 7:01 PM ^
Not yet but we are getting close. I remember Mercury Hayes.
September 8th, 2021 at 12:53 AM ^
Wait! I lived down the hall from Chris Floyd my freshman year in South Quad, so I am a blue hair too!
P.S. - He was a large human!
September 7th, 2021 at 6:25 PM ^
At 62 I believe I qualify for blue hair status although candidly my hair is way more gray then blue. But my thoughts here are:
1. They arent wrong. Floyd absolutely did wear #7.
2. You arent wrong either. It looked weird on Floyd and it looks weird on Edwards. #7 at Michigan is DEFINITELY a QB number, not an RB number.
September 7th, 2021 at 7:32 PM ^
For me #7 will always be Rick Leach. I know Chad Henne and Drew Henson wore that number too, but Leach was the QB when I was the most rabid as a fan. Listening to Ufer gush about "The guts and glue of the maize and blue" on Saturday afternoons was really special.
September 7th, 2021 at 7:33 PM ^
Did Demetrius Brown don #7? QB from the 80’s…
September 7th, 2021 at 9:23 PM ^
i think it was because it matched his INTs against sparty.
September 7th, 2021 at 11:18 PM ^
Dude, too soon.
September 8th, 2021 at 6:49 AM ^
Fuck that fucking game. And we were still in a position to win before that last dying quail.
September 8th, 2021 at 8:52 AM ^
"QB from the 80’s…"
No kidding... Mandude, you're on a Michigan football blog with Blue Hairs. You really think you need to explain anything about Demetrius Brown, as if we don't know who he is, what position he played, and what coach he toiled under? LOL!!
September 7th, 2021 at 10:49 PM ^
Amen!??
September 7th, 2021 at 7:22 PM ^
Tell me how you feel about a defensive lineman wearing #3?
Or how about the number 0 in general?
September 7th, 2021 at 8:54 PM ^
I don't like the #0 trend
September 7th, 2021 at 9:19 PM ^
How about a defensive lineman wearing #7? For the blue hairs out there, Mark Jacoby wore it back in the early '70's (when the Big Ten was our sandbox and the Rose Bowl our ... not sandbox.)
September 7th, 2021 at 8:41 PM ^
Classmate of Chris Floyd here with stunning brown hair.
September 7th, 2021 at 9:10 PM ^
Is it chestnut with auburn highlights?
September 8th, 2021 at 8:55 AM ^
Is your wife upset that you took her L'Oreal coloring kit?
September 8th, 2021 at 9:34 AM ^
Blue hairs is so yesterday. Blueing used to be used when women washed their hair about once a week. The blue effect kept their from turning maize. Sometimes it did turn purple........ I think (hope!) most old ladies wash their hair more often now......... However, the more I think about it maybe it is appropriate - maize and blue!
September 8th, 2021 at 6:41 PM ^
I remember Chris Floyd and have white hair
September 7th, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
Good. I was hoping he'd play more than 1 game at M.
September 7th, 2021 at 6:32 PM ^
Nice avi there
September 7th, 2021 at 6:45 PM ^
*insert pointing Spider-Man meme here*
September 7th, 2021 at 6:51 PM ^
Touche. I see I really need to step up my mustache game.
September 7th, 2021 at 7:22 PM ^
Does this fall under "no bewbs"?
September 7th, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
I hope that simply means we’ll see more blowout wins. I’m fine with 15-20 carries apiece for Haskins/Corum. And I’d like to see 25-30 passes. For a decent balance. Please don’t force a three back rotation.
September 7th, 2021 at 10:45 PM ^
Yeah, I'm completely fine with Donovan Edwards playing the whole 4th quarter because we're up big.
September 7th, 2021 at 5:50 PM ^
Not a surprise; I think we'll see him in the passing game as well because he's got good hands and is a load in space.
September 7th, 2021 at 7:06 PM ^
Hmm, "load in space"
That's probably where that 2001 space baby came from
September 8th, 2021 at 7:33 AM ^
Load in space = taking a dump on the ISS
September 7th, 2021 at 5:53 PM ^
Is it weird that I think he's just bullshitting? Like Corum looked so good as a runner and a reciever I feel like hes just saying this to keep his 5star freshman happy. The reality is Corum is going to eat up a lot of those snaps
September 7th, 2021 at 8:31 PM ^
I suspect it means he's a clear #3 or a clear "Blake Corum #2" i.e. he's another speedster who can catch also. I hope this means we're getting him maybe ~3-5 carries/game and a reception or two. Just keep him involved as a freshman so he's ready for a future stardom
And if we're being honest, you kinda have to keep the idea of a talented freshman transferring in the back of your head all the time. Need to keep him engaged
September 7th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
A close friend who got Heisman votes back in his day who is rarely impressed by Wolverine RBs over the last decade or so told me right after that game, “it looks like Michigan finally has a quality back.”
September 8th, 2021 at 7:27 AM ^
Are his initials H.H.?
September 7th, 2021 at 5:55 PM ^
That's an interesting anecdote from the head coach. The tea leaves there might suggest that was a message to Hart/Gattis "give the ball to Edwards more", which can otherwise be interpreted as "more evenly split the 3 man rotation" - not a popular theme on this here blog from last season's offensive management.
I'm all for utilizing Edwards' pass catching out of the backfield to partly supplement what production will be lost from Ronnie, but I can't imagine why you would want to disrupt the Haskins/Corum duo based on what we saw in week one.
If Edwards deserves more time, then by all means play him. But it would be mind numbingly disappointing if it were at the expense of disrupting the rhythm of what Haskins and Corum can provide in the running game.
