STAND UP!!!!

I stood up when he invited fans to do so. If that makes me a dork so be it.
Loved the speeches from Lynch, Flores, Manning, and Megatron as well. God bless football ?
I love my mom.
I love her too.
What a great ambassador and I’m always gonna miss watching him play. Such an amazing talent but he has shown to be just as good a person.

I went to a Mott Children's Hospital benefit a few years back. Woodson gave a short speech on the importance of the institution, introduced a handful of doctors and talked about their contributions. He did it all WITHOUT NOTES. He knew names and facts and his investment of time and money was such an inspiration. I never thought it possible but my opinion of the man grew considerably that evening.
Both Charles Woodson and Juwan Howard are better people than they are in their respective sports arenas, which is saying plenty. Just great representatives of the UM. Congrats Charles!

Then Charles Woodson would be Gandhi, MLK, Abe Lincoln, etc., as a human being, because he's the GOAT at his position from age 18 to 38.
He is simply the best. What a speech. Loved how talked about THE TEAM. So unselfish.
Go Blue!
Go, Woodson!
GOAT.
"You know the School."
Go Blue.
Forever awesome.
It truly shows my age that my junior high sports hero is now inducted into the hall of fame.

You’re ….. you’re not that old bud
Age? Dude, I was changing my daughter's diapers during the '97 edition of The Game.
Well, I wouldn't define about to be 40 as young.
August 9th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
I would. You still have 40 good years at least.
Totally agree. Charles was, is, and always will be the very best.

Woodson with an incredible tribute to his mom...really great moment.
Loved his comment on 'the idea that single moms not being able to raise men - I call bullshit'.

Woodson,Weathers, and Peterson were the CB's on the 1997 team. What do you all think of the talent level Jim is bringing in?
August 8th, 2021 at 10:24 PM ^
Since you asked, I'm guessing Dax Hill is rated around the same as Woodson. So there's that.
And Woodson was the definition of a "generational player", so there's that too.
But you do you.
Yes, I realize Hill is a safety and Woodson was a CB. But guys like Peppers, Hill and Gary were all huge recruits landed by Harbaugh.
August 8th, 2021 at 10:38 PM ^
Nothing against Rashan Gary, Jabrill Peppers or Dax Hill, but they have not done anything to put themselves on the same level as Charles Woodson. Yes, they were very highly rated recruits out of high school and Gary/Peppers both player well for Michigan, but they never had the impact Woodson did.
August 8th, 2021 at 11:13 PM ^
Understood. But the question was about the talent level of our recruits. Not the on field results.
And Duh, didn’t pan out as well as Woodson is true for 99.99% of the kids recruited since Woodson!
Almost no one has done anything to put themselves on the level of Charles Woodson. Not a fair statement for any player
August 8th, 2021 at 11:06 PM ^
I mentioned CB's because of the post a few days ago. The safeties on the 97 team were Ray,Hendricks, and Patmon. How do you think our safeties stack up to that group?
August 8th, 2021 at 11:16 PM ^
To answer your question: NO, the defense we are currently fielding isn’t on par with the best college defense EVER! On that we can agree.
August 9th, 2021 at 11:58 AM ^
At the same time, the '97 secondary wouldn't look nearly as dominant against today's passing attacks. The only modern passing offense we faced that year was Washington State and they threw for 300 yards. Woodson would still dominate his man but the other guys would be isolated in single coverage a lot more now.
Harbaugh did not land Peppers..

I think you need some ibuprofen to control your fever.

Awesome, Charles. Just awesome!

Loved it! Megatron also! A great night for the few of us that are Michigan AND Lions fans! Had a simple Crown for Calvin. Busted out the JW Platinum for one during Chuck's speech. PS: I got the bottle of JW as a gift and just cracked it. I'm fine with Black or Double Black. No-way in hell would I spend $100+ for the Platinum.

That's exactly why you buy something as a gift for someone. To give them something they usually wouldn't splurge on lol.

I stood, my family looked at me funny, I did not care, I was crying already, I was not embarrassed, I hope someday there is a better Michigan football player than him, I doubt it he is a once in a lifetime game breaker.

“The only thing I ask of my boys is that they love their mama as much as I love mine.”
Someone is chopping onions over here.
I always tell football fans, if your favorite player is being inducted into the HOF go. It's still my favorite sporting event I've ever been too.
I need a damn good reason to voluntarily go to Ohio.
They've got pretty good amusement parks. And seeing the bridge over the Ohio River means you and your car with the Michigan plates are about to be safely in Kentucky.
I've always considered Sandusky as the Gibraltar of Michigan.
Gibraltar the peninsula or Gibraltar the trade center?
Gibraltar the Prudential logo
I wasn’t crying. You were crying.
Honestly, the speeches were all so good and it was such a heart warming and inspiring evening. Tom Flores had an amazing speech, too. The common themes were family, faith, and success does not occur in a vacuum.
Woodson was fighting through tears his entire speech. The whole crowd stood up at the end. God, I love being a Michigan Wolverine. Thank you, Charles for being a great human being and being a hero for me and my son.
“Anybody who was at Fremont Ross, any player that played with me, please stand up. Stand up. Keep standing. Keep standing,” Woodson said. “Any Michigan Wolverine, stand up. Any Green Bay Packer, past, future, present, all the fans, stand up. Any Oakland Raiders fans, Las Vegas Raiders fans, stand up. Keep standing. Keep standing. To anybody — anybody — who was a fan of the way I played the game of football, you stand up, too. Anybody. My [college] coach Lloyd Carr told me a long time ago, there’s no one bigger than the team. No one bigger than the team. Keep standing! Don’t sit down! Stand up! We did this together! Together! Me and you! We were Mr. Ohio together. We were a Heisman Trophy winner together. We were national champions together. We were defensive rookies [of the year] together. We were defensive player of the year together. Super Bowl champions together. So when I say that when I go in, we go in, I mean that from the bottom of my heart.”
His (ahem, my) speech was great but I actually enjoyed Hutch's speech even more. Both great tributes and well deserved. Proud day to be a M alum/fan.
Might sound a little petty, but I regret that he had to share the night with Peyton. Manning is of course deserving of enshrinement; I just think that Charles Woodson, as the GOAT, should have been top dog last night.

Charles changed the way we watched football. That 1997 team is the only football team at any level, before or after, where I was excited for us to be on defense. That excitement grew even further when the opposing QB dropped back to pass. I will always be grateful to Charles for being the cornerstone of the greatest senior year of college ever.
Charles Woodson , A football life , the special that they aired on NFL network yesterday (or maybe it was ESPN), is great if you have never seen it. Highly recommended.
