And they totally missed out on stino97 too. What kinda Kool aid is this staff drinking?
Were I blessed with infinite time and patience, I would keep a detailed record of every place or player that Michigan must recruit, as mandated by MGoBoard. That log would almost certainly cover the entire country, plus Canada, and require Michigan to accept in excess of 1,000 commitments each year.
Don't forget Germany. 6'6" solemn skiers don't grow on trees (at least not in the US).
Solemn, as opposed to jovial?
Solemn, as committed.
Solemn, as opposed to Gomorrah.
We could always use more honest skiers
In an alternate universe where U-M has NCAA permission to sign all 1000 of those commitments, fans are complaining about U-M not pursuing 1000 other players in the transfer portal! It never ends!
(those would be some fun recruiting pitches for transfers. "Come transfer to U-M, you can compete to be 48th on the depth chart!")
Bo famously told highly rated recruits that they weren't guaranteed playing time. Jim probably stays close to that. I'd imagine JoPa had a similar speech to recruits.
True, but refusing to guarantee playing time does not equal a (purely hypothetical) conversation about whether you come 112th or 116th on the depth chart.
Yep, that was my intended joke. :-)
Although the way OSU is going these days, they might have 116 QBs on their roster at some point.
Bo and JoPa…not the two best people to model oneself after.
Hey....we're right above Rutgers right now in the rankings so stop bitching.
Why? I'll tell you why.
Mangham made it pretty public that he really liked Michigan and then dropped us because it wasn't reciprocated....This is a non-issue unless you think the coaches are misjudging Mangham's abilities.
This is one of the many reasons MSU comes to play Michigan so tough every year. Recruits/players like this don't forget and play with extra juice in the rivalry.
So Michigan should take every high school player that really wants to play at UofM because if they don't, they'll go to another school and play extra hard when they line up against Michigan?
I'm just simply stating it adds to the toughness of their play because some of these kids play with some bitterness. Which can be a big motivator.
Of course, if Michigan signed these kids then they wouldn't have any extra juice in the rivalry with MSU. So in one of those fun paradoxes, Michigan is its own worst enemy here yet can't stop it from happening.
They lost AVS to MSU(which, duh, his brother transferred from UM to our in-state rival so they can be workout warriors!), but outside of that the staff didn't seem enamored with or pushing for commitments from Mangham, Tatum, Gates, etc...
They also lost Burnham to ND ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh well, sometimes kids like ND over Michigan for football or non-football reasons.
AVIS lost a lot of business after Uber was invented. I think we can take that loss. Not to mention Lift has crystal balls to Ann Arbor.

I see what you did there.
Not taking in state croots so they can satisfy mgobog demands to recruit more Ohio guys, sorry.
Also, not enough five stars in state.
Excellent typo there.....this place sure can be an MGoBog at times!!
It’s a little early on a Wednesday to be hammered drunk. Time for bed. The sky isn’t falling, we’ll be fine.

The sky isn’t falling, because it already fell.
Why is 〽️ not getting in state talent!
How about 2-4 and a HC on the hot seat? Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Need to show something on the field.
Evidently you missed the joke. At least 2-4 times today!!!!
It's "cut and dried" for all intensive purposes.
Porpoises
I wish, just once, one of these posts, lamenting the lack of "in state recruiting" would include a couple examples of players from Michigan we missed on and why the poster wants them in the class. I guess that's too much to ask for these days. Put me in the camp of not caring where recruits come from, as long as they want to play for Michigan and can help us win football games.
I'm in the same camp of "not caring where recruits come from".

Agreed. Doesn't matter where they come from so long as they are focused on where they want to go to.
Thanks to the moderators who generally keep this site free of random bullshit posts like this one. Otherwise it would be ...
That is an old joke. MLive hasn't had commenting in a while............
Point taken. It's harder to process these days. I'll stop.
Is Michigan automatically entitled to all the in-state recruits?
In the top 10 as rated by the 247 composite, it looks like there are really only 5 in-state guys the new UM defensive staff is/was recruiting. Will Johnson, Josh Burnham, AVS, Dillon Tatum and Deone Walker. If we can close with Tatum and Walker, I think you have to say it was a pretty good recruiting effort for in-state kids. Burnham is a loss but that's the price you pay sometimes with staff turnover/chaos. I don't think AVS really counts as a loss given his brother's transfer.
Here we have our daily reminder that the required points to create a post should be significantly increased.
Yeah, but requiring 1000000 points would wipe out most posters.
Based on some of the threads that get created around here, that wouldn’t be the worst thing to have happen.
Negged for a shitty title.
Begged for a shitty post.
I mean they got Will Johnson but after that…… Tayshawn Trent (committed), Deon Walker (Michigan leads), Dillon Tatum (Michigan perhaps slight lead).
It's August, prospects aren't going to sign LOI's for another 4 months. Football season hasn't started yet, prospects want to see how Michigan responds after a garbage season. Let's not call game over in the middle of the second quarter.
OMFG these whiny ass fans and their broken record takes on "recruiting"
Some think that every player in the state, Midwest, country, North America, and the world should be ravenous in their desire to play football at Michigan. When most realize that they are not talented enough or there is not enough room, they should reluctantly take a scholarship from another school.
You know, this comes up about once or twice a quarter around here and I think that the answer to the question is embedded in the apparent recruiting strategy, which seems to be to compete for talent in the actual talent hotspots. Outside of a couple high schools perhaps, the state of Michigan is generally not that, not at the level Michigan wants to play at anyway.
What team wouldn't want the 24th kid from Texas (or Florida or California or Georgia) over the 4th kid from Michigan? I'm sure there are exceptions but most years.
What I'd really like to know is why Ohio HS football is so far ahead of Michigan? And has been as long as I can remember (again, potentially excepting some unusual years).
Would really love to hear from some folk that have insight.
Cheers.
I'll pass this valuable info along to the M coaching staff. Doubt they ever considered recruiting the state they were located in. This is next level ish. It will also save on fuel costs. You just changed the trajectory of the program with a swipe of the keyboard.
