SPONSORED: Per DraftKings, Michigan is currently +450 to win the National Championship…Iowa is +2000. Where would you place your bet?
[Ed: Sports betting is now legal in Michigan, and we've partnered back up with DraftKings, a longtime MGoBlog supporter.]
Michigan currently has third best odds, with only Baylor (+250) and Gonzaga (+275) ahead of them. That team in Columbus sits behind Michigan at +1100, and the green guys in East Lansing are at +15000 (yikes…). What’s your favorite future bet from DraftKings?

Seeing that betting is about the odds, and not what I actually want to happen... ah screw it, GO BLUE!
February 24th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
FanDuel has better odds on Michigan at +600. Take your money there guys!
February 24th, 2021 at 5:51 PM ^
I assume this is /s or else you're missing the point of this post.

Well tell Fanduel to sponsor my favorite Blog and I might spend my money with them.

We are now saying we are a basketball school, and now apparently this is a Gambling Blog with mods as OP's.
Strange times.

Teams with better odds than msu to win the national championship include Drake, Belmont, Utah State, and Saint Louis.
That said, if I were a betting man, I'd clearly bet on Michigan.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:04 PM ^
It is very interesting that Baylor has better odds than Gonzaga. That is clearly .... stupid? IMO, Gonzaga is the best team in college basketball, and Michigan is the 2nd best. But the guys that set these odds up are a little smarter than i am, so what the fuck am i missing?
February 24th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
I agree and I think Mark Few and Juwan are better coaches than Scott Drew. I guess Baylor has really strong and experienced guard play who are all plus defenders.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:19 PM ^
Gonzaga is better than last year's team that we smoked by double digits. We are way better than last year's team as well.
Baylor is really good but their success might be a byproduct of their conference.
We'll be more battle tested than anyone going into the tournament, especially Gonzaga and Baylor.
I like our chances against anyone.
February 24th, 2021 at 5:47 PM ^
Baylor plays in the second best conference in the country behind the Big 10; 70% of the Big 12 is in the Top 40. The back end of the conference is really bad, and the top teams (other than Baylor) don't match the Big 10 for quality, but overall the Big 12 is a strong conference.
February 25th, 2021 at 8:22 AM ^
Baylor almost got beat by a 2-17 ISU team the other night.
8.6.1February 24th, 2021 at 5:57 PM ^
I just can't buy into a team that plays in a 2-bid league. The way things have gone this year, they'll probably get a decent high major team in the round of 32. I don't think they want to face Duke or UNC that first weekend.
February 25th, 2021 at 8:01 AM ^
I have to ask, have you watched Baylor? I don't mean for that to come off as snarky, but I feel like a lot of the opinions about Baylor being overrated are due to them not being a traditional power. The truth is, they are very, very good. Butler will be a deserved first team All-American, they then add in 3 other veteran guards who all could go off at any time, and then fill in with 3 or 4 big guys who defend every possession like their life depended on it.
I'm not saying they are clearly better than Michigan or Gonzaga, the truth is all of these teams can beat each other on any night. But saying that it is "stupid" to put them on a level better than Gonzaga is misguided. I think there is a valid argument to be made if people wanted to go that way.

I know nothing about gambling lingo, so what does the +XXX indicate? How does that relate to payout on a hypothetical $1 wager?
February 24th, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
What you get for a $100 wager. Negative amount would signify how much you'd have to wager to get $100.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:17 PM ^
Got it. Thanks. Didn't realize $100 was the baseline bet, but that all makes sense now.
February 24th, 2021 at 5:11 PM ^
I'm sure it's only $100 because it allows for a lot more specific odds without resorting to decimals, which is kinda nice.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:24 PM ^
What's with the decimal hate? 126% is the exact same as 1.26 times greater than. C'mon people! There's nothing to be afraid of!

lol. As a person with a minor in math, I agree. As a software engineer, I can see the appeal of removing one layer of complication in coding up a gambling website.
February 24th, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
I appreciate the info as well. Not being a gambler, I always wondered what the system is.
February 24th, 2021 at 10:36 PM ^
question: so if someone puts $100 and wins the +$ 275 bet, when they go to the window to collect do they get paid $275 ($100 + $175) or $375?
February 24th, 2021 at 4:11 PM ^
I start every season betting $50 for Michigan to win the Nation Championship. One day....one day
February 24th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
What odds did you get before the season started?
February 24th, 2021 at 8:28 PM ^
Please read up on hedging bets. You should be rich two times.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:11 PM ^
I was able to get Michigan at +1200 a couple of months ago. I admit I also put a little on Gonzaga at +300.
Legal gambling has increased my knowledge of college basketball teams significantly. Can’t wait for the tournament!
February 25th, 2021 at 9:20 AM ^
I got Michigan at +4000 in December, wish I had put more on it though.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
I would light my dollar bills on fire and bask in the radiant if brief warmth on a cold winter night.
Better odds than my chances of picking a winner betting sports.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:16 PM ^
I’m with you on that, my man. I’m the proverbial fool and his money when it come to sports betting. All heart, no logic.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:09 PM ^
I have plenty of vices, but gambling isn't one of them. To me the value of sports betting odds is that they are probably the most accurate predictor of what is truly going to happen, simply because it is completely unbiased and dispassionate. The bookmakers don't care who wins, and neither does a majority of the bettors. I guess you could argue that a large amount of "homer" money on any individual game could sway the line a bit, but not much.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:17 PM ^
Haven't pulled the trigger on that one yet. Did make money off the Sparty win on DK last night.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:17 PM ^
The value is with Illinois. Just last week my book had them at +1600.
February 24th, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
I'm glad that they think our football program will improve tremendously this year and that Gonzaga decided to restart their program for the first time in decades.
I'll take whatever you call the bet that will win me a lot of money
February 24th, 2021 at 4:26 PM ^
4.5-1 is not good value imo
February 24th, 2021 at 5:32 PM ^
Yeah FanDuel has better odds on Michigan at +600. Sick sponsorship when you’re odds aren’t even the best..... cmon!!!!!!
February 24th, 2021 at 5:59 PM ^
German probably has an excessively-consonanted compound noun for the embarrassment you feel after forgetting to switch to an alternate strawman account to shill for your own posts.
Whatever that noun is, I hope that you are feeling it now.

February 24th, 2021 at 4:56 PM ^
On August 1st I put $20 on us to "win the most games in the B1G" at 11-1...Covid might screw me on that. But then on December 29 I put $50 on us to win it all at 45-1 ($2250)....GO BLUE BABY!!
February 24th, 2021 at 5:03 PM ^
The bank.
February 24th, 2021 at 5:14 PM ^
This is clearly a correct answer, though I am enjoying putting a few dollars on the teams I want to lose as a happiness hedge. I can put as much on our opponents as I'd be willing to pay for a win, and if we don't at least I'm paid for my trauma, lol.
February 24th, 2021 at 5:19 PM ^
I hate how the DraftKings logo wears the crown crooked and to the side like some douchebag with a crooked flat brim.
February 24th, 2021 at 5:31 PM ^
Yeah, they should show some pride in their monarchy!

I have a bet for Michigan to win the national championship at +4000 odds. Only bet $25 but will payout $1000 if I win.
