Both teams went 14/32 from three (43.8%). There was essentially no 3fence being played. It was fun to watch. And it was another good outcome for our title hopes.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:33 PM ^
It was pretty sad, Iowa couldn't even be bothered to get their hands up on any of OSU's open attempts
If Fran can't win a big ten title with THIS team, how is he ever going to?
February 4th, 2021 at 9:55 PM ^
He'll never with a B1G title without playing some defense.
February 5th, 2021 at 7:40 AM ^
I mean, I don't think the Iowa hoops team has a history where the coach has to win the BTC.
February 5th, 2021 at 8:32 PM ^
Indeed—Iowa hasn’t won since ‘79. Among the old-school Big Ten, only Northwestern has a longer drought
February 4th, 2021 at 10:54 PM ^
I don't care I wanted Iowa to win. There was no way I was rooting for Ohio.
February 5th, 2021 at 8:28 AM ^
^This, ad infinitum.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:29 PM ^
Iowa's defense is embarrassing. What does Fran even do in practice?
February 4th, 2021 at 9:43 PM ^
Combs the mop.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:32 PM ^
So with a bunch of ranked teams losing and OSU not playing again until after the next polls come out, they're likely going to be ranked #4 with Michigan right in front at #3
I get OSU has a lot of good road wins, but they've also lost to Northwestern and got swept by Purdue. Idk what to make of them
February 4th, 2021 at 10:14 PM ^
there are rolling now tho
February 5th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
I think we match up well against them. Kyle Young is their biggest player at 6'8" and their Liddell is a 6'6" PF. They're going to have trouble against our length and defense
February 4th, 2021 at 9:32 PM ^
UM now with 3 game lead over Iowa, Wisky & Bucknuts
Illinois is only 2 games back, but they are the lowest ranked of the 4.
So UM is actually increasing their lead in the standings, without setting foot on the court.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:39 PM ^
That's not technically true. We have at least two fewer losses than every big ten team, but 3 teams have as many or more wins in conference than we do. Based on real win-loss record, we're only 1 game ahead of Illinois and OSU
Each result, win or loss, only accounts for 0.5 games. So we're 8-1, which is 1 game ahead of Illinois at 8-3. OSU is 9-4 which is one more win than us, but three more losses. So the lead is still one game.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:42 PM ^
None of that mattered in football season. You just sit the games out, don't make them up, and get your B1G Title.
February 4th, 2021 at 11:08 PM ^
Who do you think we are, Ohio State?
February 4th, 2021 at 10:17 PM ^
it's interesting. would 16-4 record get the big ten title over a 13-2?
February 5th, 2021 at 9:01 AM ^
No, UM should be the B1G champion even with less games played, Can't control what happens in this Covid year. Can only play the games you're healthy enough to play.
February 4th, 2021 at 10:49 PM ^
As it's approximately the midpoint of a 20-game season (depending upon how many games each team is able to reschedule), I already had started a few weeks ago to look first at the loss column any time I check the standings.
In this weird sports season I've discounted the loss column a bit as being the best guage, but yet I really love where we are now, 2 up on the Illuni and 3 or 4 losses up on all the other nationally-ranked contenders.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:49 PM ^
Interestingly, ESPN has Illinois and Ohio State only 1 game behind and Wisconsin 1&1/2.
February 5th, 2021 at 7:49 AM ^
Count it like baseball. Each win and loss accounts for half a game. Michigan is 8-1 versus illinois at 8-3. Wins are the same. we are 2 up in the loss column, but you need to multiply that by 0.5 which gives us a 1 game lead.
Osu is 9-4 which puts them 0.5 games up in the win column, but 1.5 down in the loss column, giving us a 1 game lead.
The idea is that a lot by Michigan and win by either of those teams makes us even, which is one full game.
Make sense?
February 5th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
Yup.
(difference in W + difference in L) / 2
February 5th, 2021 at 8:59 AM ^
Illinois is 5th on Kenpom though. Really wanna see Michigan play Iowa and Illinois at least once each.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:37 PM ^
i've been saying for weeks: beware the buckeyes. they have talent, a very good coach, and significant momentum.
February 4th, 2021 at 10:30 PM ^
I’m late to acknowledge it, but yeah, the Columbus Sleeve Tats are legitimately good.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:41 PM ^
don’t care fuck osu
February 4th, 2021 at 9:41 PM ^
OSU was going to be a handful regardless. We’ve had a habit of losing to shitty OSU basketball teams the last several years.
Iowa is still going to be a handful. But I don’t fear them as much as I did a couple weeks ago. They’ll still be tough to beat. And I fear our guys will be called for fouls just for breathing too hard on Garza.
February 5th, 2021 at 5:29 PM ^
I worry about that too. I noticed late in the first half Iowa had been called for 1 foul and osu 9. On one particular play, Garza elbowed one of the osu players in the face, as he was going up to shoot, and they called a foul on the osu player. On another play, Garza had a blatant push in the back to grab a rebound - no foul.
February 4th, 2021 at 9:45 PM ^
We are going to be a handful when they play us!
After watching BIG games over the past couple of weeks, there is obviously a ton of talent. But nobody moves the ball and plays D like Michigan this year!
Bring em on! Go Blue!!!
February 5th, 2021 at 6:28 AM ^
Agreed. Worried about our beer bellies when we get back from our long break though.
February 4th, 2021 at 10:04 PM ^
Bucks are pretty deep.
February 4th, 2021 at 10:13 PM ^
They are all right - but they are no Michigan. Holtmann strikes me as a Ryan Day type: good coach, but chokes on the biggest stage.
February 4th, 2021 at 11:38 PM ^
Idk about day choking on the biggest stages so far, but Holtmann has been flat out average in the post season at OSU
No sweet 16s, and I don't think ever more than one big ten tournament game win in any year
February 4th, 2021 at 11:56 PM ^
Choke? It was fucking Alabama.
February 5th, 2021 at 5:34 AM ^
Easy fella - no excuses necessary. Maybe he can prove me wrong one day. Right now, he has proven that he lays an egg on the biggest stage of all.
February 5th, 2021 at 9:00 AM ^
Lol this is delusional. They annihilated Clemson.
February 5th, 2021 at 10:02 AM ^
hahahaha You are exactly why so many fucking people laugh at our fan base. You are calling a coach out who has beat our ass every time he has played us ( pretty big stage) and has lost 2 games as head coach...two. gtfoh with losing on the big stage...at least they are on the fucking stage. we are outside pulling lint out of our pockets buying a ticket from the scalpers
February 5th, 2021 at 7:14 AM ^
This comment is why people hate Michigan fans. Calling out a coach because god forbid he hasn't won a national championship in his first two years, meanwhile our coach can't even win games big enough to get to the biggest stage.
February 5th, 2021 at 9:06 AM ^
It looks like we’ve touched a nerve here. Don’t worry, maybe your favorite coach Ryan Day can finally get it done the big stage some day! (I just wouldn’t bet on it ?)
February 5th, 2021 at 10:33 AM ^
Yeah, maybe. Too bad Beilein choked on the biggest stage, am I right?
February 5th, 2021 at 10:59 AM ^
Sounds like you’re a buckeye fan. Or have a hard on for their coach’s.
February 5th, 2021 at 12:11 PM ^
Their coach's what? Their coach's WHAT??
February 5th, 2021 at 12:11 PM ^
Yes, as a guy who's been on here for nearly 12 years and has an avatar of all the Detroit teams plus UM, you caught me, I'm a buckeye fan.
February 5th, 2021 at 7:18 AM ^
holtmann has coached in five ncaa tournaments and advanced to his seed every time. he’s never lost to a lower seed.
February 4th, 2021 at 10:13 PM ^
how bout that!
February 4th, 2021 at 10:26 PM ^
It's 89-85 now.
Double Secret Probation Overtime?
February 4th, 2021 at 10:37 PM ^
Forgive me if I’m not that intimidated by a Fran McCaffery team heading into March! He’s who he’s been for years! He tried to lose to Msu the other night! Although the game was never in jeopardy. He tried his best to help Timmy, get a win.
February 4th, 2021 at 10:50 PM ^
Watched the entire second half, nobody guarded the 3 point line. Wide open looks for all. Iowa tried to play man to man for a couple possessions when they were behind, boy did that backfire. Then Fran was substituting five defense guys for five offense guys on the last couple possessions. osu is a solid team, no stars. This long layoff is killing me. Go Blue ???.
February 4th, 2021 at 10:57 PM ^
ya, hard to get excited over this minny-rutgers game, but it's all i got.
