OT: Eagles fire Doug Pederson
Black Monday Part Deux:

It's not often a Super Bowl-winning coach gets cashiered so soon after said triumph, but then throwing your team under the bus mid-game is a special kind of stupid.
Slight possibility he'll reunite with Joe Douglas in NY, although it's more likely he'll have to rehabilitate his image for a season or two away from the game.

Eagles, can I interest you in a gently used Jim Harbaugh? Now with a miniscule buyout so you'll save money too!
January 11th, 2021 at 3:14 PM ^
Only driven by a little o'l lady that's never been to Pasadena.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:26 PM ^
I regret that I have only one account with which to up vote this.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:31 PM ^
So you are definitely NOT WD.
January 11th, 2021 at 7:02 PM ^
Agreed
January 11th, 2021 at 3:17 PM ^
Ha. That would last a single season before Harbaugh moved onto something else. Philly fans are special crowd to deal with
January 11th, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
but those fucking pretzels and being able to go to a WaWa at any hour of the day...I'd resign right now just for the food.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:50 PM ^
Let's hope Harbaugh has a great season next year so we can get rid of him easier!
January 11th, 2021 at 9:38 PM ^
Please stop with this inane line of thinking.
January 11th, 2021 at 5:08 PM ^
I don't think Harbaugh is interested in working for Howie Roseman who pretty much has control of the franchise. There will be a huge power struggle between both similar to Baalke and Harbaugh back in SF.
January 11th, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
If Harbaugh somehow turns this around and wins the Big Ten and beats OSU, then it just might be the single greatest coaching feat I’ve seen in my 46 years. Espy worthy and might become the Legend we were all expecting. Not getting my hopes up!

Philly is in play
January 11th, 2021 at 2:48 PM ^
Did Pederson tank on his own volition, or was it under pressure from upper management? If it's the latter, that's brutal to then fire the head coach after following orders to tank.
January 11th, 2021 at 2:53 PM ^
I mean even if he was given strict orders to tank the game from upper management, he FAILED miserably with it.
January 11th, 2021 at 2:51 PM ^
Is this a play to keep Wentz? Didn't the GM want Wentz but Wentz's relationship to Pederson got frayed?
January 11th, 2021 at 3:07 PM ^
That's my sense - they couldn't keep both happy and you can usually find a decent coach easier than a decent QB.
January 11th, 2021 at 4:37 PM ^
Wentz was outplayed by a 2nd string, 2nd round rookie QB.
Wentz barely is a decent QB.
If true, combined with the garbage Watson is pulling, is sickening.
January 11th, 2021 at 9:45 PM ^
Wentz kind of fell off a cliff this year. Statistically he looked pretty good in 2017, when the Eagles won the Super Bowl after he was hurt, but he's been getting worse every year since then.
He's only 28 so he may be able to turn things around, but I'm not convinced I'd keep him around.
January 11th, 2021 at 7:51 PM ^
It probably is, but I think it’s a dumb decision. I’d take Pederson over Wentz. He won that Super Bowl with Foles, after all.
January 11th, 2021 at 2:53 PM ^
HIRE JIM HARBAUGH!!!!
January 11th, 2021 at 3:18 PM ^
It’s happening!!!
but probably not.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:19 PM ^
While I’m not sure he’s the best candidate out there, it’s tough for me not to see him as an upgrade over Patricia for the Lions.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
A wet paper bag would be an upgrade over Patricia.
January 11th, 2021 at 3:28 PM ^
Because a wet paper bag wouldn't run off the team's best players.
January 11th, 2021 at 6:24 PM ^
Depends on what was in the wet paper bag to begin with :D

Another NFL opening means another spot for Day, Urban, or Harbaugh
A man can dream
January 11th, 2021 at 3:29 PM ^
All I ask is that Meyer goes somewhere, ANYWHERE, other than Columbus.
January 11th, 2021 at 5:08 PM ^
I’m going to guess that most OSU fans won’t care that much now if he goes off to the league or to some other college. OSU somehow managed, two times in a row, to lose an all-time great coach and replace him with somebody better. Day has figured out how to balance OSU’s offense in a way that Meyer never could, and he is on the brink of winning a national title in only his second year. It took Meyer three to get to that point.
If Day had turned out to be a bust, or had lost to Michigan, yeah, I bet they’d be pissed. But as of right now, I don’t think they care too much what Meyer does. Especially if OSU wins tonight.
January 11th, 2021 at 6:11 PM ^
IIRC they were undefeated in Urbz’s second year and they would’ve had a chance at a NC but they had to serve their 1-year bowl ban. Or was that year 1?
January 11th, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
Well OSU went 12-0 in Urban’s first year but was still under the Tattoogate bowl ban. Also OSU fans might care if Urban pulls coaches away from Day.
January 11th, 2021 at 6:27 PM ^
The way things have gone for OSU, they’ll mAnage to upgrade their coaching staff.
January 11th, 2021 at 6:24 PM ^
I take it you are of the belief Meyer was retained to actually teach a class while maintaining an office just down the hall from the AD and the Head Football coach?
January 11th, 2021 at 4:00 PM ^
Pederson just shot to the top tier of available coaching candidates. He's the only dude other than Coughlin to beat Belichick and Brady in a Super Bowl and he did it with a backup QB.
High and mighty folks can complain about what Pederson did, but that loss will let them improve their sad WR corp with either Devonta Smith or Ja'Marr Chase. Win that meaningless game and they probably lose out on both of those guys.
January 11th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
Embarrassed the organization.
Franchise QB hates him.
January 11th, 2021 at 4:15 PM ^
The most surprising firing we've seen in a while, I thought Pederson would have a longer leash (and free cheesesteaks for life in Philly).
January 11th, 2021 at 4:41 PM ^
I'm seeing Pederson to the Lions clear as day now. It's the perfect match: Pederson needs a job, Lions need a coach. Slam dunk.
January 11th, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
Is Pederson higher on the NFL pecking order than Meyer or Campbell?
January 11th, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
Tough to believe he got fired in a year in which he literally had 4/5 starting OL out for every game. There isn’t a coach in the league that wins under those circumstances. I was willing to give Wentz a do-over too given this stat, but then Hurts showed that was a moot point. Pederson can clearly coach some offense. I would love it if the Lions paired him with Saleh.
January 11th, 2021 at 5:02 PM ^
Philly would be a great place for Eric Bieniemy, given the Andy Reid coaching ties.
January 11th, 2021 at 5:21 PM ^
But Pederson was Reid’s offensive coordinator at Kansas City, too...
January 11th, 2021 at 7:31 PM ^
Pederson could end up somewhere as a quality control assistant while living off his buyout. Then look for another team - someone will take a chance on a guy who won a SB more than they will care about tanking his last game to get a better pick.
This was clearly either keep Wentz or Doug - the owner obviously made his choice.
January 11th, 2021 at 7:39 PM ^
More like keep Doug or Roseman. Wentz likely isn't part of their future plan regardless.
January 11th, 2021 at 9:22 PM ^
cc: QB coach?
January 12th, 2021 at 5:24 PM ^
The Lions should go after him....and maybe Shwartz too.
