Last Month Bama beat Ole Miss 63-48
I'm tired of everyone blaming this program's failure on the defense. In today's football you MUST SCORE POINTS.
Last month Alabama beat Ole Miss 63-48. Is everyone talking about what idiots Bama's staff is for allowing a second-rate program like Ole Miss to score 48 points on a defense with NFL talent at every position? NO.
BECAUSE BAMA SCORED 63 POINTS and WON ANYWAY.
The failure of this program is 100% the fault of the offense! Period.
Two weeks ago vs MSU, how about we just win the game 35-27? Iowa scored 49 on their ass!
Last week vs IND, how about we just win the game 41-38?
Michigan allowed 17 points in regulation vs OSU in 2016 AND LOST!
Ask the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs about their defense. They know how championships are won in today's football. OFFENSE.
Since the CTE stuff came to light, you are no longer allowed to touch the QB and WRs. So in order to win nowadays, your offense better fucking SCORE POINTS.
And everyone wants to talk about the last two OSU games. Guess what? Those games should have been shootouts. It was our offense that failed first in both of those games. I guarantee you if our offense had been able to stay on the field and score points, our defense would have only given up 40-some points in both games, not 50-60+. But after the offense kept stalling the defense got exhausted and caved in. OSU kept their starters in until the very end in both games and ran up the score in the 4th quarter. But make no mistake, in both of those games the OFFENSE FAILED FIRST.
It's not 1985 or 1997 anymore and football will never be that way again. ACCEPT IT.
Yes, our defense sucks this year. But it is not the complete sieve that it was under Rich Rod. It gets some stops. It's been good enough to win championships in years past. And yes, they need to improve their recruiting and stop allowing their DBs to clutch and grab so much, because that is no longer allowed. FINE. Make the adjustment. But...
It is the OFFENSE that has been an infuriating jumble of ineptitude under Harbaugh. THAT is why he has failed.

Your post is a horseshit covered snowflake. The defense was putrid in 2 of 3 games. You’re just grabbing onto the new cliché that offense wins championships.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:14 PM ^
Unfortunately, this board is full of cliches.
Another one that everyone keeps repeating is, “this is year 6 of Harbaugh”.
Brian Kelly went 4-8 in year 7 at Notre Dame. Notre Dame stuck with him, and look where they are now.
Past (and even current) performances have no bearing on future successes or failures.
November 14th, 2020 at 6:06 PM ^
Brian Kelly had already won things before that season
The people who want to keep Harbaugh just want to set the program back even farther I guess.
November 14th, 2020 at 6:14 PM ^
So have we - ND didn’t have OSU in the way.
November 14th, 2020 at 7:07 PM ^
How many 11 win seasons do we have then? We only play OSU once.

You want to explain what i've posted that isn't a fact?
He has won nothing here. His best season was his first with a Citrus Bowl win where we still lost to both rivals.

Cool story bro. But don browns coaching sucks and his recruiting is worse.
November 14th, 2020 at 4:29 PM ^
Which is exactly why he needs to be fired! Don Brown has been struggling but the ultimate blame is Harbaugh. Fire his ass!

November 14th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
Based on current hiring trends, after an impatient run at a spread offense, the D-line coach in '06, Steve Stripling.

November 14th, 2020 at 4:33 PM ^
While it’s true you have to put up points, you also have to have a defense you can count on to get key stops...we definitely don’t have that kind of defense...how many turnovers have we created on defense this year?
November 14th, 2020 at 4:40 PM ^
All we gots to do is score more than our opponents.
November 14th, 2020 at 4:41 PM ^
Exactly why we need Steve Sarkisian to be our next coach. His offense can do that.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:25 PM ^
His offense? Or the 1st rounder he has at pretty much every position yearly?
November 14th, 2020 at 4:41 PM ^
MSU scored 27 fewer points against Indiana than they scored against us.
They scored 20 fewer against Iowa.
This is way more than simply the defense being less than perfect.

I don't get the hate of this post
November 14th, 2020 at 4:56 PM ^
Michigan State literally just told their receivers to run in a straight line and chucked it up repeatedly. That was their gameplan. Brown couldn't figure it out.
I'm willing to give the offense time to grow. There's a new QB behind a new OL throwing to new receivers. The defense should be able to decipher the "run really fast in a straight line" offense.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
I'm willing to give the offense time to grow if Harbaugh will stay the hell out of it.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:17 PM ^
Exactly...let's give the offense some time to grow, but screw the defense. Dax Hill started some games last year as a freshman. Every other DB should be able to step up and play just like him. It shouldn't matter that none of them ever started a game before this season or that Ambry Thomas bailed on the team to go pro. And now that Hutchinson and Paye are out for Wisconsin, the new d-line starters better step up and play like All-Americans so that the receivers don't have time to get open. Us brilliant couch coaches need to stick together!
November 14th, 2020 at 5:23 PM ^
Fwiw my breaking point for the Don Brown experience was him calling a zero blitz when state had 3rd n goal from the 18, up 20-17. A FG doesn't hurt us but a TD kills us and that fucking idiot goes max blitz so a simple screen pass is a walk in game-ending TD.
Why? How can a coach being paid a shit-ton of money be that unaware of the game situation, especially since his vaunted blitz packages didn't get home once the entire game.
November 14th, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
The entire coaching staff has very little game awareness. Thus, no ability to adjust during the game. Most disappointing.
November 14th, 2020 at 7:07 PM ^
Not like this is some new insight that you or anyone else hadn't already realized a thousand times over, but Don Brown essentially only has one pitch - lots of pressure backed up with press man single coverage. If you can beat that with playcalling and/or personnel, we fold.
November 14th, 2020 at 6:11 PM ^
How much longer are you willing to give Harbaugh to be able to run a 2 minute drill? This is literally 3 years in a row they have zero awareness with time running out.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:00 PM ^
I think many will agree that the problems are on both sides of the ball and on the sidelines. Something is rotten in Schemy Hall and it has been for a long time over 4 HCs (starting at the tail end of Carr's tenure).
Someone call a priest. An exorcism is needed
November 14th, 2020 at 5:03 PM ^
I'm with you to an extent...but may scored 27 on us. Then they combine for 7 against Iowa/Indiana!
November 14th, 2020 at 5:03 PM ^
they sure did.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:08 PM ^
No. Our defense is a goddman travesty
November 14th, 2020 at 5:10 PM ^
It's not an either/or situation. The offense doesn't score enough. The defense can't get stops when they need them.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:27 PM ^
While it is true that our D is subpar, the theme of this post is this:
Nobody is shitting on the Alabama defense for allowing 48 to Ole Miss last month.
Alabama still WON the game.
Nobody is shitting on the LSU defense for allowing 38 points to Texas last year.
LSU still WON the game.
Nobody is shitting on the LSU defense for allowing 38 points to VANDERBILT(!) last year.
LSU still WON the game.
Nobody is shitting on the LSU defense for allowing 41 points to Alabama last year.
LSU still WON the game.
Nobody is shitting on the LSU defense for allowing 37 points to Ole Miss last year.
LSU still WON the game,
Last year, LSU WON the National Championship.
If Harbaugh/Gattis ran their offense, LSU would have been 9-4 last year.
Offense wins championships now.
/fin
November 14th, 2020 at 5:47 PM ^
Yes, agreed offense wins championships. However, you still need a defense that can get a stop when it matters or at least hold a team to a FG.
Points scored leaves out a lot of context. Teams with hyper fast offenses are going to have defenses that give up more points just by sheer volume.
Alabama gave up 45 and won, because they got the ball back. If they gave up 52 or 59 they probably lose. They still wouldn't have had 65. You think Don Brown's D is doing that?
Don Brown's D is afforded the benefit of an offense who keeps it off the field and lowers possessions. So, you can't just compare that to LSU's defense. Game script matters. If LSU had UMs offense they would have better numbers. And if LSU had UM and DB's defense they probably arent winning the national championship.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:20 PM ^
We give up 3rd downs with shocking ease (almost like the RichRod era but instead of playing 20 yards off the receivers we’re mugging them on every play and getting flagged for it.)
We’re offsides A LOT. Stop giving the opponent so many free plays.
Look how good we made Rocky Lombardi look.
Sorry. The defense has frustrated the hell out of me.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:28 PM ^
Ditto. I'm in the camp that Gattis might be ok if left alone but Jimmy wants things done a certain way and that's why the offense looks so different from week one forward. I would bet Gattis got his ass chewed for calling so many Milton runs and has taken that out of the gameplan because of it.
Brown is a lost cause IMO. He's a one trick pony and everyone has figured out the trick. And he's either too old or too stubborn to learn a new one.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:20 PM ^
What I hate is the lack of awareness. Having a bad defense is one thing, but not accepting the fact that you have a bad defense is much worse. Every game we come out and try to establish the run, feel it out, wait until the defense puts us down three scores before we realize we should have been prepared for a shootout bc our D is awful.
Come out with guns blazing. You can't be afraid of turning the ball over and shit, because all you're doing is throwing possessions away. Realize that a punt probably means points for the other team anyway. Stop game planning like today is the day that we get the 13-10 slugfest that we seem to prepare for every week.
There, that's my rant for the #rantthread
November 14th, 2020 at 5:23 PM ^
Michigan couldn’t score 63 on Saline High.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:26 PM ^
I have no idea why people are down voting you. This is 100% the truth, our offense is terrible. The defense spent years bailing out the offense because they couldn't score, now that the defense is also bad it looks alot worse.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:26 PM ^
Agree with OP. Maybe I would say it without all the angst, but our offense is the real reason for our mess.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:40 PM ^
November 14th, 2020 at 5:38 PM ^
Damn, this is a well thought out post.
Take a break, and don't try again any time soon.
November 14th, 2020 at 5:43 PM ^
1. Agree that the lack of O is the primary issue. Scoring is way up in CFB and winning teams have to generate 30+ pts to consistently win. Heck, LSU gave up 30+ in 4 games and 25+ in 7 games last year but went 15-0. Gattis needs to open it up and attack the edges & downfield.
2. However, the D has been incompetent when it matters. Brown is predictable and most of the CB play has been awful (Green has been ok). IU won easily today and the D coasted against MSU - Brown’s D should never be light years behind IU.
