Season Ticket Renewal
Who is not going to renew? I'm 95% sure after yesterday I don't want my tickets anymore. They take forever, the team is mediocre, Jim is dead inside, and Warde is only interested in jacking up prices and stupid hype videos. Jim has 1 win at home vs MSU and has only kept 1 game vs OSU close into the 4th quarter. All talk, no championships, and 1 bowl win vs a bad Florida team. Plus, there's no tax write off for the tickets anymore.
Let's look at home games of future schedules. I know MSU and OSU aren't at home the same years going forward but the updated schedules aren't on mgoblue.com.
2021: Western Michigan, Washington (I'll bet this will get cancelled), Northern Illinois, Rutgers, NW, OSU
2022: Colorado State, Hawaii, Uconn, Maryland, PSU, Illinois, IU
2023: East Carolina, Bowling Green, MSU, Purdue, Rutgers, OSU
2024: Fresno St, Arkansas St, Wisconsin, Nebraska, IU, Maryland, PSU
Michigan doesn't host Oklahoma until 2026 or Texas until 2027.
Even of there is a coaching overhaul, the schedules are absolute trash and not worth paying for.

They already have my money for next year, so I will keep those tickets. But I will not be renewing again after that. I drive in from Cleveland to go to every game. Invest way too much time and energy into a product that is not worth the price.
I will miss taking my sons to every game though. The enjoyment I get from tailgating with them will be hard to replace, but we will find something to do.

Having season tickets to Michigan football games was a big deal when I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s when they were a premium. It was a privilege to see a game in the Big House because the wait list for season tickets was generations long. Not so much anymore. I can be miserable at home and not have to fight traffic on the way home.

As a guy who wants to buy season tickets after I graduate, how hard are they to obtain? What does the process look like?
November 1st, 2020 at 12:53 PM ^
You have to pay for the privilege of possibly being selected. It all depends on availability of which I'm sure there will be plenty. The AD has basically been begging for season ticket holders the last year or two. But regardless of demand, your payment doesn't count towards the tickets themselves. Your first year, it'll go towards the PSL. After that it's the PSL and then tickets on top of that. Depending on your seat location, it can get pricey.

Ya think?

I will keep them because we enjoy the family outing win or lose (we don’t get to go to every game so either sell or donate). We certainly like winning more but everyone is so busy and this gives us time together.
We enjoy supporting the players and hope our contribution makes a difference in their lives over the long term.
As we get older and the kids have their own families we shall see if it makes sense to continue.
we definitely do not base the decision on winning or losing but everyone’s circumstances and priorities are different. Totally understand anyone who decides not to make that kind of cash outlay.

Most sensible post of the day although I completely understand the feelings of those who pay big $ for a now mediocre product.

Michigan Football was, is, and always will be an important part of my life. I will always renew my tickets until I croak. I am still in JH’s corner. I never saw this loss coming. I probably over reacted to the Minnesota game as well as the MSU performance against Rutgers. Since JH came here, the games have been much more enjoyable. We are no longer a team everyone looks forward to playing. I would like to beat the Buckeyes occasionally, so it becomes a rivalry again. We produce good adults. The kids stay out of trouble. They actually have to go to class. The team is competitive. I would not get tickets if Urban Meyer was hired. I don’t think he would ever be offered the job.

Season tickets cancelled 8 years ago. Best move.

Cancelled mine during RR. Best thing I did. It’s not hard to go to whatever game you want

2 season tickets since 1980, not going to renew, just not worth it anymore! Yesterday was the first game I have missed, even had tickets in the student section in 78-79 from a friends son. It's just not fun anymore!

Though I am going to renew because we've already rolled our $$$ over to 2021, your Michigan Stadium tenure is almost identical to mine.
We've held onto the same 4 seats (Sec.36) since 1980 after having 3 seats together in the student section in 1979 ; prior to that we had seats in section 7 in 1977-78 by piggybacking 4 tickets on with another friends order---they already had four seats in that same section.

I was in section 38, I came to the conclusion after I tried to sell one of my tickets last year and what it was worth, that it's not worth it anymore. If I really want to go to a game again, I will just buy one on the street. I discovered that they are always available, and real cheap just before kick off.

I'll be there next season; I've already paid for those tickets.
And most likely I'll be there for at least the following few seasons because for us, the experience of spending time tailgating with great friends on home football Saturdays is still a major draw for all of us who have done so for 4+ decades together.
If anything, I'll probably eventually wean myself off attending every home game over a hopefully long period of years as long as I feel healthy and fit enough to continue.
OTOH, if it was just for the Michigan game and the Big House experience itself, I'd be seriously questioning continuing after the 2021 season if the on-field product remains stagnant.
November 1st, 2020 at 1:20 PM ^
Not sure where you live, but I would advise continuing tailgating and then heading to a house and watching the game together. I’ve found it to be much more enjoyable to watch a game at the comfort of a friend’s house.

That idea would sound so attractive if any of us lived nearby, but everyone in our extended tailgating group is over an hour away from Ann Arbor; for me it's a 5-hour round trip on gameday. One in our group even flies up from Atlanta 4-5 times each season with his wife for the football weekend.
Because we've increased our original 1980 4-ticket order to 6 and then to currently 8 seats, and "Dave" and his group a row in front of us started with 2 tickets 30 seasons ago and now holds 6 season seats, that's 14 of us plus assorted visitors.
OTOH, a decade down the road and I can imagine many of us skipping the entire Ann Arbor thing, passing the tickets down to the kids and grandkids, and rotating hosting each other in the comfort and warmth of our homes, as we're all in our 50s and 60s now.

I dropped mine after Hoke’s last season broke me emotionally. Between the time, money and constant disappointment I can’t imagine ever getting season tickets again. I liked having a set seat and getting to know the people around us, but it’s hard to justify when you can go to pretty much any game for less than face value (let alone the seat licenses and bullshit fees).

This is where I'm at. Tickets can certainly be had on secondary markets for reasonable prices. Plus I'd rather give my money to Howard and the basketball program and save the rest I would have spent on golfing.
November 1st, 2020 at 2:25 PM ^
The basketball program deserves every penny right now. I too will take my money in that direction
November 1st, 2020 at 7:53 PM ^
Wow, I kind of wish you hadn't put that golf equation into my head. We pay $1200 per seat in section 22. I could play a lot of nice golf for what we pay for football.

Thank goodness we got the OSU/MSU scheduling glitch fixed. It was clearly a disadvantage.

I love my school and my teams - win or lose. I'm never going to stop renewing my season tickets.

I have been thinking about this for the past few years. Charge a premium but not a premium product. If renewal deadline was today I'd be out.
Most games on the schedule I could go to for face value or less and not have to pay a seat license as well.

A coaching change always bring excitement to the program. They’ll come

Didn’t renew ours for this year after having them for 30 years. The ever increasing prices have not been worth the product on the field. We had 4 and it was getting harder and harder to get some of our money back if we weren’t using all of them, especially with the schedules we’ve had. Will maybe attend one game a year going forward.

For me StubHub is the only way to go. It is hard to make it to all the games with young kids. I haven't had season tickets for a few years and have no plans to get them agin. Picking up good seats for cheap a day or two ahead of time when you can make sure the weather will be good for the kids works really well.
November 1st, 2020 at 4:36 PM ^
I had season tickets for the last 4 years, I am thrilled to be done with that. Stopped being fun after year 2, and most games were truly miserable. Only reason I kept wanting to go was for the tailgates and the small possibility that the few games against real competition might be fun. Most of the time they were blow outs, terrible weather, or painful 4 hour nail biters against terrible teams. This year, I sit at home with all the people I went to games with last year and save money, have 10 times more fun.
November 1st, 2020 at 4:40 PM ^
Definitely keeping my tickets. Love going to the game with the family, wouldn’t trade that experience for pretty much anything. Getting worked up about 18-22 year olds isn’t my thing (anymore).
