Was any action taken against the countless examples of name calling and personal attacks against WD over the years? That was always way more annoying than anything WD posted. It was like watching a group of bullies pick on the awkward kid in school.

I don't think it had anything to do with the apparel posts, but rather the way he treated everyone else throughout the years.
It's like the school bully getting on stage at the talent show and getting boo'd.
WD went out of his way to be nasty to others on the board, and then would make trivial posts and probably wonder why people were mean to him.

This exactly... He said things to people that were completely unwarranted and was almost intentionally crappy far to often. Tons of people have been banned for far less than some of his more mild comments. How he got away with it as long as he did was nuts.

It's a blog about Michigan sports. He's obsessed with Michigan sports. It never seemed that crazy to me. There are way worse obsessions and addictions to have in life.

Agreed - the dude got kicked around for years but no mod to the rescue there. I hope Ace is woke enough to realize he made a mistake or at least a read through these comments in support of WD. But, given the back and forth on the twitters, I doubt it.

I hate to say it, at first I do believe I was in on it. Due to my ignorance of not knowing that WD is actually a,”FANATIC!” I like WD a lot as a fan/person because I do believe he is just doing the best he can as a young man who was raised up to be who he is! He really is misunderstood. I will never back any statements of anyone that are not kind in nature but for a sports blog he was badgered an awful lot around these parts.

The attacks on him were sometimes extreme, but he also had a penchant for starting fights with people and escalating relatively benign ones quickly. I think he's mellowed out a bit as he's aged but there are a lot of people around here who can survive without telling everyone to go fuck themselves 1-2 comments deep into a discussion. WD didn't always do that, and so a lot of these seemingly "unprompted" attacks by others were because he got after people aggressively before.

Sad I missed WD getting banned. He gave as much as he got and he went out of his way to bully certain users. If you make a little effort and follow various Michigan teams on social media, you can easily keep up with all the non revenue sports. Some people have definitely become unhinged this year. As Van Wilder once said: “You shouldn’t take life too seriously. You’ll never get out alive.”

I don't post a lot, but have been a long-time reader. I didn't have any particular beef with him, but thought his shtick was annoying. Harmless though for the most part. Hope he takes the time to do some reflection and growing up. The obsession, especially with the non-revenue sports, was unhealthy, particularly for someone who claimed he didn't care about the university or its reputation or otherwise didn't have any connection to the sport. I think we can all agree that football and basketball are just another form of mass entertainment. At certain schools, baseball and hockey qualify too.
I think he said in a recent thread that this year was the first time he was attending his nephew's birthday in 7 years because he was otherwise at Michigan games. These are moments in life you're never going to get back.

Totally in agreement here.
I don't post much and I don't remember ever getting into anything substantial with him but he's always come across as a dude a liiiiitle too obsessed with the school. Like I'm sure this man would get maize and blue contact lenses if he could.
We're all here because we like Michigan and reading about their teams and supporting the school, but his obsession was downright unhealthy. I also think the attention he got from the blog went to his head a bit and he got too self-important. He also hasn't matured a whole lot from when he first started posting to now. Time away from here might allow him to put some energy into other things in his life that might round him out a bit as a person.

We can delete entire accounts but we only use that when spammers pop up. Banning is a different thing that just locks the account so the user can't get into it.
