Holiday Friday What's In Your Cup/On Your BBQ/Plans Thread
Mates,
End of summer Labor Day Weekend thread. We have slight normalcy leaking back into our lives with some college football being played this weekend and also the genuine hope that in 2 weeks we'll be watching real live high school football in various places in Michigan. Oh the heart jumps in anticipation.
Earlier, a number of you laid out your plans for the weekend. I have it on good authority that mgoblogger Scanner Blue will be visiting the farm tomorrow for a bike ride and run, joining the 'Daddy-daughter duathlons' that me and one or both daughters have been doing 2-3x/wk for the last 6 months or so. Trying to entice robf to join us as he hinted at a possible trip up north. For those that visit, bring a cooler so we can send you down the road with some farm goods - beef, eggs, and maybe we'll go berry picking at the north end of the farm.
You've got CFB tomorrow starting at 1:00. Of particular interest is a game at 1:30 where two of last year's opponents, Memphis State and Army square off. Holding out hope for Mr. Yacht to pull a rabbit out of a hat and actually tilt us toward B10 football.
So what's in your cup, what's on your grill, what's on tap for you this holiday weekend?

Doing good. We start football practice back up next week.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:07 PM ^
Passing through Montgomery, Alabama on the way to gulf shores. Sugar free red bull for now. Trailer in tow. Will likely dig into some 22 year old Costco scotch after getting to our site.
Enjoy your weekend!

Had a number of fingers of Oban Little Bay tonight ..... ahhh scotch
September 5th, 2020 at 12:23 AM ^
How does it compare to the 14? I'm about to finish off a bottle and love it, so need to decide whether to get the little Bay or 14 again. I even enjoyed the game of thrones Oban nightswatch.
September 5th, 2020 at 10:38 AM ^
Little Bay is my favorite. Smoother and sweeter.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
I'll definitely give it a whirl. I just cracked open an EHTaylor single barrel that may be the best bourbon I've ever had. The Oban will have to wait just a little bit.
September 5th, 2020 at 11:36 PM ^
That is a fine bottle. I tend to like it no more than 12 years/aged. But I make exception for the Oban.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:11 PM ^
Drinking a few local IPAs and putting the finishing touches on my Lou Holtz urinal portrait.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:15 PM ^
can you tell us if your sister is in control of your country now? heard you were in a coma (again).

Co-ma is Korean for "Western imperialist scum will believe any dumb shit we plant in the QAnon media."
September 5th, 2020 at 6:47 AM ^
as dear wife would say, 'the thick plottens'.
excellent PR campaign.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:12 PM ^
Packing the car. Heading to the beach in the am. Surf and turf all weekend!
what are you cooking up this weekend XM?
September 4th, 2020 at 7:17 PM ^
ribs have become a favorite around here so i do have a 8 lb set of ribs ready to roll. probably tomorrow night. always able to bust out some grass fed beef if needed, too. i mean, we have a literal ton in freezers and a field full of cattle if the zombies come. so there is that.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:25 PM ^
Nice. Ribs are my favorite but I haven’t made them all summer. Maybe next week.
September 5th, 2020 at 2:20 PM ^
I’m breaking in a new smoker with ribs on Monday. Seasoned it and did a practice run with pork belly Thursday to get it ready. Gonna be a lot of smoked meats this fall.
I figured it would be a good hobby to replace golf for awhile now that I have a newborn and can’t leave the house for the whole day anymore.
September 4th, 2020 at 11:52 PM ^
Well crap. I have to drive hours to trade furniture with my mother in law this weekend. Got 18 planned at Pine Hills (OH) Monday though
think I’d rather have ribs in your back yard to be honest
September 4th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
Careful XM. You might end up with a MGoBlog style Woodstock on your property.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
Woodstock, or the fabled mgocamping trip.
September 4th, 2020 at 9:10 PM ^
Will MGoUser "Dennis" (originator of the MGoCamping idea) be there?
Don't know if you noticed, but a few weeks ago during your hiatus, "Dennis" posted to a thread or two, first time I believe I've seen him on the MGoBoard in quite some time.
September 4th, 2020 at 9:18 PM ^
just you and SB, but you are going to be too late to join up. bummer.
September 4th, 2020 at 11:56 PM ^
I wasn’t in the right place in life when it became an MGoBlog meme but if you’re hosting a camping adventure up north I’m crashing that place for real. As long as pit bulls are acceptable family attendees
September 5th, 2020 at 6:38 AM ^
not hosting a camping trip, just some mgovisitors today. you'd be welcome, but the pit might be a problem unless there was some bonafides about fairly absolute calm - too many animals and kids around to have an unknown (to us) variable like that on the farm.

NBA playoffs, time with my girls, local beer (Founders and some of that locally brewed west coast IPA, my two homes). Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy what they can, even though we are living through some troubled times. As we say in antitrust law, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Golf. Beer
September 4th, 2020 at 7:42 PM ^
I don't have plans but I do have a sudden urge to go shopping at Kohl's for a cute new pair of shoes
September 4th, 2020 at 7:46 PM ^
Combining your avatar with those shoes is certain to cause whiplash, vertigo, nausea and a host of other maladies.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:42 PM ^
Grilling some ny strip steaks, burgers, dogs and chicken this weekend. Various beers and bourbon on the docket. Hoping the rain holds off ?.
Have a great and safe holiday weekend everyone ☺️
September 4th, 2020 at 7:42 PM ^
Per last week's thread trying injected pulled pork tomorrow. Wish me luck.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:42 PM ^
Got a Founders All Day IPA in my hand right now as I type this from the pool, a tee time Sunday morning with the fellas, and a full slab of ribs with my special dry rub seasoning that I'll be throwing on the grill Monday. All in all. Life is good.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
Smoked ribs and Fat Tire here. Tidying up the what needs to done outdoors to free up NFL Sundays for as long as it lasts.
That and watching J.J. McCarthy tonight on ESPNU!
September 4th, 2020 at 7:44 PM ^
This weekend starts family salmon tourney. Clackamass coho still a no-show.... heading tomorrow n Sunday for some Tillamook Chinook. No michigan football this fall = biggest salmon season in decades! If the Canucks ever get the border open, plan on hitting the Frazier with kids for some “remote learning”. Rainer beer for me....
September 4th, 2020 at 7:53 PM ^
Frazier river valley is gorgeous. Fished it many years ago and still have wonderful memories of the trip.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:48 PM ^
Forgot to mention NFL is on tap soon, isn't it?
avatar twins sighting in rifle. Youth deer hunt next weekend.

First game of the season is Texans vs Chiefs on Thursday the 10th. Sounds like a pretty good match-up to me. It will be interesting to see how the Texans (and more importantly DeShaun Watson) fare considering Bill O'Brien traded away their top offensive weapon last season. It's going to be all about DeShaun this year unless David Johnson can resurrect his career.
For those of you who are fans of the Lions, they play the Bears on the 13th at 1pm. I assume the game is on FOX as most NFC games are. I expect a win for the Lions. I'm an optimistic Lions fan (this year) and I don't have much respect for the Bears this season.
If you're a Browns fan, and I know there are more than a few of you here, they start their season against the Ravens at the same time as the Lions. I assume that game will be on CBS. Another good match-up in my opinion. Baker Mayfield admitted that he was a headcase last year and needs to focus more on football and on being a better QB. I agree and I have a feeling he will have a bounce-back season if he has indeed changed his attitude. If he bounces back, the Browns likely will as well.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:53 PM ^
Nothing special planned on the grill, but we're climbing Dog Mountain on Sunday. Should be a really cool outing. On Monday we'll probably crack open the Cascadia sour beer that's been sitting in the fridge for a while now.

That looks a lot like exercise. Beautiful. Where is it?
September 4th, 2020 at 7:55 PM ^
About an hour east of Portland in the Columbia River Gorge. I moved out to Portland at the end of June and we can't get enough of the hiking. There's stunning natural beauty everywhere.
September 4th, 2020 at 8:01 PM ^
I visited Florence for a funeral about 13 years ago. Flew into Portland and then drove down the coast. It was as beautiful and magnificent as any landscape I've ever seen. Even the clouds and rain were beautiful.
September 4th, 2020 at 8:05 PM ^
I've heard great things about Florence. Our first hike was at Cape Perpetua along the coast, which is when I took the picture below. That entire coastline is stunning.
September 4th, 2020 at 9:08 PM ^
Great picture. What's crazy is that (IMO, at least) it gets even better as you get close to California (first twenty-thirty miles or so north of the border).
September 4th, 2020 at 8:06 PM ^
boy, talk about good timing to move out of portland....
have a great climb. looks fun.

Voodoo Ranger IPA with Traverse City’s finest take away chinese food. Kinda carbo loading for my duathalon with the OP’s athletic daughter(s). Start the camp fire in a minute with the sun setting over Green Lake.

cloudless, perfect sunset to watch right now. enjoy.

Lots of water and Motrin. Trying to make the pain go away.
September 4th, 2020 at 8:49 PM ^
Xm. I thought you were done here?
Why can you not go away?
September 4th, 2020 at 8:53 PM ^
i had a nice month or so off. missed guys (girls?) like you though. incidentally, what exactly triggered you to post so pleasantly?
xoxo

It was no trigger, it is just that you are a poster who is a slog to deal with.
I have disagreed with dr mantis for example, but he brings useful points that arent about his kids and still bring an athletes view.
You unfortunately are a pain to deal with.
I would rather have the good doc back than you. That is all.
