OT: RIP Fred Willard
Too bad. I had no idea how old he was.
That series of Christopher Guest-directed movies (Best in Show, etc.) was hilarious.
Amen. Every one of those movies is funny.
Shitts Creek is where I get my fix now.
RIP funnyman.
Anchorman & WALL-E are the two that come to come to mind first, but there are so many others. Quintessential “That Guy!” Character actor, one the finest.
Very underrated. Whenever he was in something he was absolutely perfect in the role.
One of the best plug and play comedy guys there was, damn. RIP.
He was 86? Wow. Had no clue, he looked great even in recent roles.
Funny guy. Just watched him in Family Tree, a Christopher Guest (writer, director) series that lasted just one season. Hard to believe he was 86.
I've been enjoying his comedy since back in the days of Fernwood 2-Night, America 2-Night, and other Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman spinoffs. Fred Willard was hilarious playing the part of "Jerry Hubbard", Fernwood's version of Ed McMahon; he was the perfect slow-witted & gullible foil for the irreverent humor of nighttime talkshow host "Barth Gimble" (Martin Mull).
RIP Fred!
Fond memories of watching Fernwood with by brother.
Those were quite funny night time sitcoms. Even at age 12 to 13, I really enjoyed them. Us older folks did not have cable TV back in the day. Willard was quite funny as Jerry Hubbard.
I would be trying to get to sleep but my dad would be laughing riotously in the living room, at Fernwood 2 Night. I started watching soon after it started. It was only on one summer, for 65 episodes, as a replacement for Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Mull and Willard were perfect together. Here's the first episode, complete with ads from the 70's.

Hey wha happened?
Yeah, nowadays you have to include a statement about whether or not a death is COVID related.
Actually it was a quote of his from “A Mighty Wind” and not an actual question about how he died and whether or not it was COVID related.
Nice try at snark though.
For those who've never seen A Mighty Wind.
He was a national treasure. RIP Fred
Loved Fred Williard. As a national treasure is he more or less a national treasure than Mike Leach?
More. Leach is is getting a bit tiresome although going head to head with Lane Kiffin every year may bring out the best in him
I remember him most from his many appearances in comedy bits on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Funny guy. He will be missed.
Absolute legend.
RIP Mr. Willard. He was hilarious doing skits on Jimmy Kimmel Live the past couple years. He will be missed.
Johnny Carson once referred to him as the funniest man alive. Hard to argue. If you haven’t seen him as the commentator in Best In Show, check it out. It was one of many times he cracked me up. He was young his whole life and I’m sure he lived it to the fullest. RIP Fred.
Funniest line in Best In Show may have been Williard's observation about Catherine O'Hara's character "she looks familiar. "
RIP Fred Willard. First time I seen him was the mini series Salem’s Lot. Ever since, he’s been that one guy you see in every movie, “Hey! I know him!”.
He was the Lion in Epic Movie.
RIP to the best station director west of the Mississippi.
KVWN channel 4 News will never be the same.
He was even great in Everybody Loves Raymond. RIP Fred.
Apparently my son was on something called acid and fired a bow and arrow into a crowd. You know how kids are!
I have no idea where he would’ve gotten a hold of German pornography, but you and I are both mature adults, we’ve seen our share of pornographic material. Oh, you never have? Of of course not, neither have I. I was just speaking in generalities. Okay, I’ll stop by the school later, Sister Margaret. Bye.
RIP Ed Harken. Brick has to be crying his eyes out tonight.
Underrated comedy actor, always brought good energy to his performances.
First thing I thought of was best in show. A lot of greats in that movie, but he was my favorite part.
Dude was just funny everywhere he appeared which was incredibly diverse venues from late night TV to movies and series. He was never out of place. Never a mega star but somebody we probably took for granted to our detriment. I'm sad he's gone.
Almost never had a big starring role, but when you look back, he was often the funniest guy in the show/movie. Every movie he's in, I perk up when I notice that he is in the scene.
I saw an interview where he said his biggest regret was turning down the Robert Hays role in "Airplane." He said that he tried to look positively at that kind of circumstance in terms of the good it produced for some other actor and that the movie might not been as good with him in the role. I think that he would have been terrific in the role.
BTW, History of White People in America is on YouTube and is pretty damn funny, if slightly dated.
right but I think my son is just going through a phase.. I have no idea where you would have gotten ahold of German pornography but you and I are mature adults we both seen our share of pornographic materials... oh you never have of course you haven't how stupid of me neither of I I was just speaking in generalities right I'll stop by the school a little later sister Margaret .... no no no it's just parent stuff it seems that our youngest Chris was on something called acid and was firing a bow and arrow into a crowd hmm you know how kids are ... yes yes Chris listen to me put down the gun and let the marching band go we'll play it off as a prank we'll straighten it out later I'm getting another call...
I always loved every role he was in, no matter the part he had something so stupid and funny to say it was always a laughable moment. Reading through these posts makes me realize how many roles he had. I mean, I don't sit around thinking about roles that actors play, but holy crap - this guy was in SOOO much!!! And while they were all pretty much the same character, he was flawless in delivery in every single one.
RIP
Dude was WAY underrated as a comedic actor and human being, will be missed. What made him so damn funny was he didn't have to TRY to be funny, it was just in his DNA like Jerry Stiller. Two national treasures from the comedic world gone, RIP gents, I'm sure everyone upstairs is getting a few good laughs now that you guys are there to entertain them.
One of the best of all time. Will be missed. Can't imagine a Christoper Guest movie without him.
