Kill em. The refs and the front office that invests nothing in officiating. Kill em all.
January 18th, 2020 at 12:10 AM ^
I believe the phrase is “BURN THEM ALL.”
January 18th, 2020 at 5:34 AM ^
Until they're dead? Okay...
January 17th, 2020 at 11:20 PM ^
This is the most pissed I've ever been for a regular season Basketball game!
January 18th, 2020 at 4:28 AM ^
That Purdue game where Steratore made up a new rule last year? My dog still hides when he hears basketball on the TV (from my yelling not that I kicked him)
January 17th, 2020 at 11:20 PM ^
It’s next to impossible to win on the road. Can’t what til we play NW in Evanston.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
57-11
free throw attempts vs opponent in the last two games. W T F !?!?!
January 18th, 2020 at 10:39 AM ^
Somebody will be on all fours. Hopefully Collins again.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:21 PM ^
It’s unbelievable. I can see the home team getting some calls but not every single call.
Something needs to be done about this.
Michigan better get the same home cooking when they play at Crisler.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:23 PM ^
Remember our last home game, when we almost got screwed into an L in overtime after 3 straight phantom calls?
At least for this season, home cooking by refs has applied seemingly to everyone but us.
January 18th, 2020 at 12:53 AM ^
They hate us cuz they ain’t us. Oh well.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:24 PM ^
Nothing is ever done. Officiating is a problem in every sport and continues to be because the greedy leagues don't view officiating quality as affecting the bottom line.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
It’s a problem in hockey but nowhere near the same as other sports. In basketball, so many points are made and the margin of victory is so small that fouls and by extension refs decide the game...
January 17th, 2020 at 11:29 PM ^
It’s way worse in Big Ten than any other by far. The home team is like 45-6 or something in Big Ten. Coincidence? Numbers don’t lie when that off.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:36 PM ^
Or Affecting it either.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:24 PM ^
Already played Iowa. Fts 34-24 at end of game
January 17th, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
Yeah I meant when they play home games the rest of the season.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
Home teams are 37-6 in B1G play. Why even play the games?!
January 17th, 2020 at 11:42 PM ^
I would love to see the FT splits for every league game so far. I wonder if they are as warped for everyone else as they are for Michigan. But I bet they're bad.
January 18th, 2020 at 12:39 AM ^
Would it be that hard to research yourself? FTA is on every box score. Not like it requires a deep dive.
January 18th, 2020 at 2:27 PM ^
Yeah I mean how many B1G games have there been this season? Only 100? Yeah not a deep dive. You research it for me then dickhead.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
Agreed. Getting 50/50 calls is one thing. But this was something totally different. The most blatant was Wagner getting his 4th because Wiesenkamp hooked and held him. Like not even anything resembling a foul on Wagner. Would love just once for Howard to nuts in his press conference.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
I will say even the announcers could not understand this.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:58 PM ^
I posted a thread on the board about this last weekend. I think in the five games it was something like 111-52 in favor of the home teams. The only road team to win was the one that had an equal number of FTs.
I don't know how you're supposed to win a game like that. Iowa could do whatever they wanted. Garza moving screens, hooking arms, grabbing jerseys....and any Iowa player near the basket got shots. I swear Garza shuffled his feet multiple times and didn't get called.
We need Livers back soon....John's and Castleton (not to mention Nunez) just aren't ready.
January 18th, 2020 at 10:24 AM ^
They already played at Crisler. December 6.
Fouls: Iowa 22, Michigan 19
FT's: Iowa 24, Michigan 34
In Iowa City:
Fouls: Michigan 23, Iowa 13
FT's: Michigan 5, Iowa 30.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:22 PM ^
Two hooks by Wieskamp uncalled. One ref even wanted to call the obvious elbow to the face of Eli as a blocking foul, after calling Brandon Johns for two charges of much lesser impact.
And that's merely a microcosm of officiating tonight. I can write an 1000 word essay on how home biased these refs were. I thought the Minnesota game was bad in terms of getting fucked by refs; this is 10x worse.
It was also mentioned in the broadcast that points in the paint were equal, so there is NO EXCUSE for such a discrepancy. Not saying the refs are crooked, they're just expecting fouls on Michigan's end while the opposite on Iowa's end. I doubt they're even aware of their biases until they review the film.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
While Johns' two charge calls were of lesser impact than the elbow Brooks ate, they were legit calls. Brandon lowered his should and intentionally drove into the defender. That's going to be called every time. He needs to learn not to drop his shoulder and bull into defenders.
You're overall point is valid, though.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:29 PM ^
No question. His second charge is a charge 100% of the time. His first charge is rarely called if the defender barely moves upon impact, but it was the right call as well; when it was called, I thought to myself, "I guess they're just calling charges strictly today."
But then Eli, who isn't moving, gets elbowed in the face and collapses, and the ref tries hard to call it a block... fuck outta here
January 17th, 2020 at 11:29 PM ^
Why not? That’s exactly what Garza does.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:39 PM ^
Exactly what I was going to say. It most certainly is NOT called every time. If you look strong and athletic while you do it, you are more likely to get away with it.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:48 PM ^
Garza did it 5 times, 2 times on 1 play and didn't get called for any of them! Dont tell me it will get called every single time when it wasn't even in this fucking game!
January 17th, 2020 at 11:52 PM ^
They had to realize Iowa was already in the bonus with 1530 to go in the game!
January 17th, 2020 at 11:23 PM ^
Michigan played well enough to win this game. When every game means so much, it’s beyond frustrating to watch a must-needed win be stolen like that. What’s the point of even watching if your team has no chance b/c of this shit?
January 17th, 2020 at 11:23 PM ^
90 pts
PG that can’t shoot in when chasing points dribbling around
Sure, fouls maddening but D is atrocious.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:30 PM ^
Kind of hard to defend when you’re in foul trouble or anything you do gets called...
January 17th, 2020 at 11:34 PM ^
They got 27 at the line. Give Michigan 27 points at the line and we wouldve scored over a 100
January 18th, 2020 at 11:05 AM ^
What game did you watch?
January 17th, 2020 at 11:24 PM ^
Apparently the head ref is from Ohio. Typical.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:24 PM ^
I got Michigan at +250. I’ll try to make it up on the 49ers... they should win big right?
January 17th, 2020 at 11:58 PM ^
Hmm, I have GB +7.5. I hope we both win.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:24 PM ^
Posted in the other thread too:
12/14 big ten teams (every team except northwestern and Nebraska) are .500 or above at home ATS this year: https://www.teamrankings.com/ncb/trends/ats_trends/?sc=is_home&group=428
If you bet 100 on the home team to cover each home game for those 12 teams you’d have made $3800. what a fucking joke.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
Can you promise me that will continue?
January 17th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Big ten home teams were 2-0 ATS tonight. I see no reason why it won’t continue with this idiotic officiating
January 17th, 2020 at 11:45 PM ^
Vegas will get pissed eventually. That's the only hope for big ten road teams.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
That's almost as bad as that MSU game last year.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:46 PM ^
Which one? There were two that they shot at least 20 free throws in and then one where the refs refused to call fouls on MSU when they were intentionally fouling
January 17th, 2020 at 11:27 PM ^
I thought for a while it would have been more efficient just to award Garza two free throws when they crossed half court. That was the predetermined result anyway.
Ah well, back to life on the bubble. Been a few years but it still fits like an old pair of jeans.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:34 PM ^
We are fine. Haven’t lost at home in conference. As long as we defend home we are ok. Play like tonight, hopefully Livers back, can steal a couple. Just can’t lose at home. We are 2-4. Same number of home and road games. Anyone look at schedule? Next 7 we gotta get it, but all ones we realistically should. 5 home and the 2 road sre Neb and NW. some tough home games. But this stretch is huge.
January 17th, 2020 at 11:28 PM ^
by way of comparison, sparty won at home tonight by 12 over wisconsin. sparty had more fouls and less free throws: 13 vs.12 for fouls, 11 vs. 10 on free throws.
