Ole Miss targeting Chris Partridge for DC
According to Tom VH on twitter just now:
According to a source, Lane Kiffin is targeting Chris Partridge as defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. Partridge has been one of Michigan’s best recruiters and has had multiple job offers in the past.

That seems like it would be hard to pass up. Damn. He helped reel in some of our biggest gets during the Harbaugh era.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:07 PM ^
Promote Partridge to Co-DC or hell nudge Brown out the door to keep him. Idc. Partridge is critical to this staff. Full stop.
2021 is a huge recruiting year. Michigan needs Partridge way more or that than it does Brown.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:52 PM ^
You hit it on the head with the second part, especially in state recruiting.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:32 AM ^
I don't think Partridge recruits in state.
December 31st, 2019 at 12:11 AM ^
Thanks for the solid analysis Maizen.
December 31st, 2019 at 3:40 AM ^
Michigan recruits at the level it always has.
It appears that you know nothing about Michigan recruiting.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
My guess is that the pay would be about $1.6-1.7. MacIntyre was making $1.5.
December 31st, 2019 at 9:34 AM ^
I’m sure Harbaugh does not want to loose him. I’m guessing he has been promised the DC job when Brown either retires or moves to another job. Might need to push his salary up a little more for next year
December 30th, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
This would be.......
not good
December 30th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
Targeting never is. Someone gets hurt and someone gets ejected. And fans complain about the call/non-call.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:31 PM ^
Shit three posts? here’s to the winner..
December 30th, 2019 at 10:33 PM ^
Great recruiter with Bagmen working behind the scenes.
He'd kill it there. Not good.
December 31st, 2019 at 8:38 AM ^
And online courses too.
Only half kidding.
December 31st, 2019 at 10:17 AM ^
Online recruiting would just be transferring money on cash app.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:35 PM ^
Why can't they jaybaugh instead???
December 30th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
Whatever position group Jay coaches has been one of our best if not the best.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:45 PM ^
Yep, people can't seem to see past the "hur dur nepotism hur dur" argument to see that he's been a good coach
December 30th, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
This isn’t really true though, since rb is the first time he’s coached a position group without support and it was not one of our best positions
December 30th, 2019 at 10:57 PM ^
Good point...especially with all of the experienced players he had to work with! Fire his ass!
December 30th, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
He didn't suggest that Harbaugh should be fired. He simply pointed out that the RBs weren't one of our best position groups this year. It's true that there wasn't a lot of experience at the position this year, but that doesn't make you less wrong.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:24 PM ^
But he was RB coach last year when it WAS one of our best position groups. And he was tight end coach when that was one of our best groups. And he's consistently one of the better recruiters. This idea that he's a drag on our coaching staff needs to stop. Period.
December 31st, 2019 at 5:36 AM ^
Also I think it's clear Harbaugh is willing to part ways with guys he is close to. See Drevno and Pep. Obviously different being his son, but Harbaugh has shown he's willing to make tough decisions to make the team better.
December 31st, 2019 at 12:01 AM ^
True statement. Never understood all the hate.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:35 PM ^
Sad if he goes, but happy for him. He was never going to jump to DC here.
This could be a win-win-win for Michigan, Ol Miss, and Chris if he proves himself there and comes back here to replace Brown in a couple years.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:37 PM ^
If he proves himself there, his next stop is as head coach somewhere.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:43 PM ^
Why not Michigan when Jim leaves in 2022?
December 30th, 2019 at 10:48 PM ^
Yeah, what? My head is asplode at everything in your post. I wouldn’t be “happy for him”, (not that I don’t wish people the best, but happy? No part of me. Maybe I’m just a bad person.) I also wouldn’t categorically say he would never make the jump here, (Don Brown is no spring chicken, after all). ‘Ole’ Miss has an ‘e’ in it, and if he proved himself as a DC there, it’s highly doubtful he’d come back to Ann Arbor in the same capacity.
A “win-win-win.” Jesus Christ, it would be a major blow to a program that needs exactly what he offers.
I swear, the phony baloney altruistic white-knighting on this board sometimes...
December 31st, 2019 at 12:19 PM ^
The guy has been a solid contributor at Michigan and from all accounts a good guy as well. I don't understand how or why you would not be happy for him if his life gives him an opportunity. If he shit on the program or left for "other reasons", then I could more easily understand the saltiness. As it is...
December 30th, 2019 at 11:17 PM ^
The fact that other big time schools have come after him with either a co-DC job or in this case the presumed DC role should signal he can and probably should be the at least the co-DC here. The fact that he is not is mind-boggling. Also maybe meritocracy is does not apply to the coaching staff lol
December 30th, 2019 at 10:38 PM ^
People sure like to shit on Harbaugh, but it's amazing how often his assistants are poached away.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:40 PM ^
Truth!
December 30th, 2019 at 10:40 PM ^
In terms of identifying talented staff members, Harbaugh does an excellent job. I would hate to see Partridge go. He is our best recruiter by a long shot and an outstanding coach as well.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
I usually like your comments.
But what are yo8 talking about here. Greg Frey was fired from Florida St. The O Line was bad. Dan Enos was fired. What affect has Tim Drevno had at USC? Wasn't almost everyone relieved when Pep Hamilton left? I could go on, but isn't this enough?
December 30th, 2019 at 11:18 PM ^
Enos never actually coached here. Frey wasn’t the reason Florida state’s line sucked before he got there, it’s because jumbo fisher left a tire fire behind on his way to a&m payday. I will give you Hamilton and Drevno being mediocre to bad. If you are going to cherrypick your coaches do a better job.
Harbaugh has a solid track record bringing in position coaches.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:30 PM ^
I simply said they are being poached, nothing about success in the new job. It's about JH's assistants being successful enough or respected enough to either get promoted or laterally move into another job elsewhere.
Here is a link to a 24/7 piece with facts. There had been 13 leave as of a year ago when it was written:
Durkin, Baxter, G. Jackson, Fisch, Wheatley, Brian Smith, Kevin Tolbert, Frey, Enos, Drevno, McElwain, Mattison, Washington. 13 in 4 years seems like a lot to me (this is year 5 so we will see how many are added to the list).
December 31st, 2019 at 1:03 AM ^
Fisch left by his own decision.
Why do you have Kevin Tolbert on the list??
Only 4 coaches on the list have made a consistent impact on college football.
December 31st, 2019 at 1:14 AM ^
I didn't make the list, the author did. If you want to make a different point about subsequent success, fine, but the fact is the assistants are being poached at a high rate due to their perceived value. OK, make it 12 w/o Tolbert, it's still a large number.
Leaving on your own for an equal or better job is a "poach", such as Fisch who went from passing coord to OC.
Again, people like to shit on JH but his coaches are eminently employable and desired.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
He's not losing that many.
And how did Greg Frey work out st Florida St?
December 30th, 2019 at 10:41 PM ^
Stay away clown Kiffin. Go find somebody on osu or msu.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:42 PM ^
He gone. We guh dai.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
While I imagine this would be hard to pass up, Partridge is going to be walking into a shit show program with a immature coach and a conference where he has zero chance of ever winning. Hopefully we can pay to keep him
December 30th, 2019 at 11:26 PM ^
Please tell him he's the next DC after Brown, who clearly isn't long for this staff given the numerous opportunities he's entertained and the disappointing performances in our biggest games
December 31st, 2019 at 10:28 AM ^
At 64 years old Don Brown is not a spring chicken. It would not be a stretch if Harbaugh were grooming Partridge for DC.
December 30th, 2019 at 10:49 PM ^
Not surprising.
Michigan will have to roll with the changes, like everyone else has to.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:01 PM ^
I’d hate to lose CP to anybody, but he’d be making a huge mistake in joining Kiffin and Ole Miss. That’s an inevitable train wreck.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:03 PM ^
Sadly the majority of coaches take job promotions for money, not for winning football games or going to the right situation
December 31st, 2019 at 9:27 AM ^
That's my initial take. Why follow Kiffin anywhere? He's sure to be canned again. And Ol' Miss is not a destination. If CP were to leave, it would be for a better spot than that.
December 30th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
I'd rather lose Brown if it meant we kept Partridge
What upside does Brown have when he's been pasted in the biggest games and he's going to retire soon anyway? Worst case scenario is that Partridge struggles as DC and we'll have to make a hire later that we'll probably have to make anyway. In that scenario at least recruiting won't drop off
December 30th, 2019 at 11:02 PM ^
Time for Warde to grow a sack and ask JH to take a $1mil paycut and give it to Partridge. Make him Co-DC if that's what he wants to be called.
