A tale of two halves. Had they played like the second half for the whole game, we crush them.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:57 PM ^
I think we'd have a better chance of playing like we did in the second half if the clear 4th down DPI against Tarik was called, or if the bomb to Nico wasn't called OPI which it clearly shouldn't have been. Both of those put us in great positions to score and take Penn State points off the board probably.
Of course, we still had chances to win and didn't pull through. But this is one of those games where you outplay the opponent but nothing's really in your favor otherwise. (Calls, Charbonnet tripping on the screen, tipped passes not being tipped towards our defenders etc...). You just have to be humble and move on.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:12 PM ^
The offense was shit in the first half but the second half was more of what I expected earlier in the year and gives some hope going forward if they can keep it up.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:56 PM ^
The third drive would’ve gotten points if they’d called the clear PI on 4th down. It was 0-7 at that point.
October 20th, 2019 at 12:33 AM ^
Nope. We have no idea. A flag may have been called, but - if you call that flag - you have to then call it on UM (which - spoiler alert - they didn’t on some big plays). So, pick your poison. In this case, all we know is they get a first down. At that point, the offense appeared completely bipolar. For all I know, the next two plays would have been runs up the middle only to lose yards.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:39 AM ^
Really, please show video evidence of a UM defending getting away with as obvious of an PI on a third or fourth down as the one on Black. The refs took away two redzone drives from UM in the first half, that is fact, it had a large impact on the first half.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:39 AM ^
We also had runs up the middle break for good chunks
October 19th, 2019 at 11:12 PM ^
Why the fuck did they wait until they were down by 14 halfway through the 3rd before they started running a competent offense?
Oh, yea, and CATCH THE MOTHERFUCKING BALL HOLY FUCKING SHIT
October 19th, 2019 at 11:25 PM ^
I guess my frustration as encapsulated by Bell's non-catch.
It was all there, you could catch that, and yet.....no.
All it means is that I am drunk and sad.
October 20th, 2019 at 12:00 AM ^
Seriously how many dropped passes were there? I think I counted 8 if I'm not mistaken.
2 by DPJ, 2 by Bell, 2 by Nico, 1 by Black and 1 by someone else? Or maybe someone had 3?
October 20th, 2019 at 12:03 AM ^
This game made me understand why the TEs get so many targets.
October 20th, 2019 at 1:22 AM ^
Or maybe Bell dropped a TD pass to even up the game. I don’t care about out the second quarter. Bell lost the game, no question about it.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:44 AM ^
Scoreboard doesn’t read Penn State 28, Bell 21. MICHIGAN lost the game.
October 20th, 2019 at 10:45 AM ^

October 20th, 2019 at 8:43 AM ^
Halfway through the 3rd in the seventh game of the season no less.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
Showed improvement. Didn’t lie down like at Wisconsin. Fought hard despite bad refs. She’s looks like he finally isn’t hurting as much.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:13 PM ^
This was a solid game. Had a chance to tie it but didn't happen.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
Feel bad for Bell.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:45 PM ^
You emphasized "Feel bad for Bell."
October 19th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
I also feel bad for the guy who is getting paid over $100,000 a year to catch a football for the University of Michigan. It happens. It happens at every level.
October 20th, 2019 at 12:33 AM ^
this is just an awful take, and complete BS. how is it $100,000 a year if the cost of attendance is around $31,500?
October 20th, 2019 at 9:54 AM ^
Yours isn't any better.
Bell is getting orders of magnitude more value out of being here than the cost of attendance. How much would a person off the street need to pay to use facilities and trainers as good as Michigan's? How much would you need to pay Gattis per hour to teach you WR skills?
Playing football at Michigan is basically an apprenticeship to the NFL. That is a hugely valuable thing.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:49 PM ^
Solid game?
What game were you watching?
October 20th, 2019 at 12:10 AM ^
A game where they put up 26 first downs and 417 yards of offense on a really good defense on the road and would have scored 30+ most likely without the bogus officiating in the first half. So I have to ask what the fuck game you were watching if you didn't think the offense showed a lot of progrsss and was generally solid.
October 20th, 2019 at 12:17 AM ^
I agree - There was effort in this game. We lost a close one. No blowout and finally had really good 2nd half adjustments. I believe this game will put some confidence in the guys once they truly have time to take it all in.
I think we will beat ND and MSU after watching this game!
October 20th, 2019 at 12:57 AM ^
I’ll do you one better. I think they’ll run the table. No longer is October third Jim Harbaugh day. It will be November second.
October 20th, 2019 at 9:32 AM ^
I thought the run game was beastly against a monster D-line and Gattis and Shea spread the field well between screens, downfield passing and runs.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
Michigan showed more heart in this game and looked better than they did in any other game. Hoping this is where it clicks. Go Blue! ...and fuck the Irish.
October 20th, 2019 at 12:52 AM ^
The Hell with Notre Dame!
October 20th, 2019 at 11:01 AM ^
WHAT The Hell with Notre Dame!
October 20th, 2019 at 10:04 AM ^
Agreed. They showed mental toughness I didn't think they had. Ronnie Bell's reaction to the drop showed us a passion we were afraid the team lacked. I hope that 2nd half is a turning point.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
You guys are acting like they just decided to be like "oh, let's start being competent on offense now" halfway through the 3rd quarter.
I'm assuming it's a combo of confidence and PSU clamming up.
The end of half offense is still atrocious.
October 20th, 2019 at 2:44 AM ^
Or you know it was actually a continuation of the first half where they were in fact moving the ball and just didn't have the points to show for it.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:18 PM ^
Offense looked pretty awesome actually. I don't know what someone did with Shea and who replaced him at QB but that dude was awesome tonight. Run game did squat but PSU has a good run defense - it did enough. WR drops killed Sheas great game(!!!!!). I can't believe that happened.
Proud of the balls on those guys. Gutsiest road performance we've had in years
October 19th, 2019 at 11:18 PM ^
All the shea shit talkers can shut the fuck up now.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:40 PM ^
I'm not on here enough anymore to be a "Shea shit talker," but I'd still prefer to see Dylan over Shea. One decent half in a losing effort probably doesn't change a lot of opinions on this topic. That said, he certainly tried to make it happen, and falling short tonight in the end ultimately wasn't on him.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:55 PM ^
can’t bench Shea after tonight. They put the game on his back and he delivered. He forced Penn State’ D to back off its aggressive blitzing by making fast decisions and getting the ball out quick. He did this in both halves. That’s why the running game improved in the second half. I want to see what he can do next week.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:52 PM ^
Seriously. We lost. Let’s not act as though Shea single handily scored in the 2nd half to win the game. He played shit 1st half and great 2nd half. We still lost. No playoffs. No B10 title. Fighting for a decent bowl game now.
October 20th, 2019 at 12:59 AM ^
I still think Shea sucked. Any average qb could have mad those throws, and he is a terrible runner. Nice pass on that screen int too.
October 20th, 2019 at 3:55 AM ^
You must also think Tom Brady sucks because he can’t run and all his throws are easy to make.
You definitely aren’t one to judge QBs if you think that shit is simple and the only thing required is being able to “make the throw” on any given pass.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:00 AM ^
That is 100% what is expected out of any QB at Michigan or any other school. Making the throw is ummmmmm like the #1 thing a competent QB should be able to do. Thats like saying the only thing required of an OL is to make a block...wtf!?!?
October 20th, 2019 at 3:59 AM ^
So when Shea put a perfect pass on the numbers to Bell for what shouldvd made it 28-28 you thought... “Get that bum out of there”
Ridiculous take. Not hot, not warm, just terrible.
Guy played his ass off for his team AND the fans.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:18 PM ^
Shea was a man today.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:20 PM ^
Offense showed up in the second half but I personally think it's time for me to find a new hobby. Between incompetence, referees, and choking, being a Michigan fan just simply isn't fun anymore.
I'm tired of watching Michigan find new ways to blow it year in and year out.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:31 PM ^
Good riddance! Except for the 2017 season Harbaugh has done well and this has been a very watchable program to be proud of. We are a tough spot in OT and a terrible performance by our third string QB away from being 2-2 against OSU and probably having two Big 10 titles. If you expect us to be Alabama right now, that's on you, not Harbaugh or the program.
October 19th, 2019 at 11:41 PM ^
I don't think it's "be Alabama" as much as it is "stop making ridiculous mistakes that lose the game to teams that Michigan should beat" and maybe a little of "we should be celebrating big victories right now, not explaining how if things went a little differently, they definitely would have won."
October 20th, 2019 at 12:38 AM ^
Look, except for about 4 programs, we are in the same boat as the other perennial top 20 programs. Look at some of the once mighty programs that would be happy to have the success we've had the last 4.5 seasons. USC, UCLA, Nebraska, Texas, Miami, Tennessee, the list goes on. And look at Georgia, Penn State, and Auburn. They haven't really accomplished much more than Michigan in the last 5 years, they've all had a bunch of tough losses, too. At least virtually every one of our losses have been against good to very good teams on the road.
I think we should have won more games and been more successful overall the last 4.5 seasons, but not a lot more successful. If we beat ND and OSU this year, I will be ecstatic and looking forward to next year. If we keep getting better every week from here on and out and win all the rest of our games except OSU, I'll be bummed, but feeling hopeful still. If you can't let go of losses and cheer the wins, you really do need to reevaluate. There is plenty to enjoy with this program, if you let the losses eat you up, you're doing this wrong.
October 20th, 2019 at 12:48 AM ^
There are only 4 programs that have won their conference?
There are only 4 programs that have won their division?
There are only 4 programs that have beaten their biggest rival in the last 4 years?
October 20th, 2019 at 12:49 AM ^
Well said preacher Mike.
October 20th, 2019 at 8:04 AM ^
You are 100% correct, this board sounds so soft. SO soft...JH teams are underprepared as of late, inexcusable...
